  1. I took the bike for a 25km ride to Simonstown and back yesterday. Windy and stormy. Fixed cog makes for a serious work out, but loads of fun. This is what the complete bike looks like in its current state.
  2. The lug work certainly fits, but i would suspect that any number of frame builders from then would have bought lugs from certain suppliers. The brake bridge and the seat clamping arrangement however is not the same. Its really the seat clamping arrangement that i think sets this frame apart and i was hoping someone could shed some light based on that. I agree about finding out the pedigree before going too far. But, the frame as i got it has no visible markings, numbers or decals anywhere to positively identify it as anything. I do like it though and thats what counts!!!
  3. Yeah, the hubber i bought it from had apparently bout it from the estate and mentioned a JHB based builder. Vincini could fit!! Where were they made and by who? The frame had actually never been assembled prior to my receiving it. The fork is still in primer. I slung it together with bits and pieces i had in my garage, and have used it on a few CM rides. But would now like to get stuck in restoring the frame, and doing a nice build. Planning Campy high flange hubs, Campy seatpost, SR cranks, strange no name brand fluted stem. Selle Turbo saddle. Weimann rear caliper.
  4. Thanks nomoregravity. Great article. Perhaps i should track down each remaining builder and send them some pics and see what they say.
  5. The fork is a double crown fork. Also very pretty. The frame is a track frame, so the clearance on the fork is very close. have to run a 21 width tire. Anything wider rubs.
  6. Iron, what makes you say this? I have yet to see a Gotty frame with a similar seat post arrangement. As soon as i can reduce the pic size i will post it. It may shed some light.
  7. I did take more pics, but this was the only one under 1 mb so i could load it. Trying to figure out how to make the others smaller to load them up. No i don't think its one of Gotty Hansen's frames. I had one of his Peugeot Hand built ones. Couldn't say for sure that this isn't one of his, but hoping that the rather distinctive lugs and seat-post arrangement would point more definitively to a specific builder.

  10. I purchased this frame from a hubber about a year ago. The seat clamp on the frame is quite unique in that it uses two screws that screw in from the back to secure the seat post. Apparently it was built by a JHB frame builder in the 80's that has since deceased. I am looking for more information on the frame, and particularly what branding the frame would have had in its original state. Does anyone recall a frame builder that branded his frames "Vince" or something similar. Thanks

    I think she is Hot!!
  12. You left off the polo bike??
  13. Looks good Hairy. But the Velobrien guys had a far more complicated saddle to work with in my case with the center cut out to deal with. The leather was actually stitched to have a nice finish thru the cut out and around the back. Stitching was integrated as part of the aesthetic finish. Looks really trick if you like that sort of thing. I was worried it would be uncomfortable, but it is every bit as comfortable as the original, if not more so.
  14. Mine set me back around R500 if i recall correctly. That was probably a year ago now, so not sure what they are charging now. Very reasonable in my opinion as it is truly custom. The saddle fits my arse like a lounge chair, so quite irreplaceable actually. And the saddle is on my every day "tupperware" road bike, it gets ridden regularly, regardless of weather and saddle is holding up well. So why splash out a grand plus to buy a new boring same old same old saddle when you could get your existing one redone in something nice and custom.
  15. This is pure engineering porn!!!!!
  16. http://velobrien.com/ Go check them out. Mine is Saddle number 27. I have another 2 saddles ready to go to them for a recover
  17. Chaps. Velobrein did a saddle for me and i was very happy. In fact to the point that i cant see how anyone would want to trash a saddle when it could be recovered. And it really looks quite custom and adds a touch of bling to any bike. Go with them, you wont be sorry.
  18. Yep a mate bought one of these and they are indeed good value, but doesn't fit on a Campy free-body. Unless of course it is "Dremmeled" to fit
  19. Thanks Much appreciated
  20. Hi BogusOne, Do you have any that are joined by the titanium carrier. Ie, 2 sprockets joined. I have stripped a good record cassette from a spare road wheel to obtain this. If you have a discarded one lying around, i would love to grab it and return my cassette to its rightful place. The 2 sprocket combo makes the "foot" thicker and less likely to bite into the free body.
  21. Ja, this was the option i was thinking until the post came along. Interesting to see if anyone else had some ideas. I currently have stripped an old Campy cassette. Some of the sprockets come attached to the titanium carriers 2 at a time. i have used them like that in the interim. But it is a waste of a usable cassette. So some Dremel tool work may be the only option.
  22. I have a similar problem. Need to convert some Campy wheels for my SS. Spacers aren't a problem, but SS sprockets to fit Campy free body is a challenge Any suggestions anyone?
  23. RIP Burry!! Condolences to Cherise and the Stander family. Know that the thoughts of the cycling community are with you.
  24. That's a nice bike. You just need to get the saddle tilt right to improve the aesthetics. I like those Mavics, just wonder how long the brake surface will stay nice and black
