  1. Hey Peeps. How many of you are heading for Montague Eroica on the 23 April? And what are you doing for shoes? I am desperately looking for something suitable in size 44. To loan or to buy. Can anyone assist?
  2. Rapport Tour circa 1982/3. Grand Parade Cape Town, Stage winners bike. Cant remember who he was. Seem to recall the name of a Belgium rider Paul Goethals, but time obscures the memory. This is where my love affair with Alan bicycles started. Oh yes and my Eroica Number is SAF16IN00056.
  3. My mate and I at the top of Chappies Circa 1982 on a training ride. Taken by another mate that had beaten us to the top. Boy, I wish I still had all that Kit. Themba wool shorts and jersey. Detto Pietro shoes and an awesome Gotty built Peugeot.
  4. Hi Kamaalo, what's happening with this ride? Time and place to meet?
  5. Very very nice........ Excellent condition...... Pure Porn.... PS Just watch the minimum insertion mark on the seat post.......You don't want to be damaging that frame......
  6. Hey Guys, careful about rear derailleur cage length. Not all the old school derailleurs could handle the extended range......
  7. Hi Eppie, What Mavics do you have available. I might be interested if Greg is already sorted. I have a nice set of Dura Ace hubs with DB spokes on Mavic MA4 clinchers to swop for a Campy set if anyone keen. My Alan is full Campy except for the wheels and that just wont do.
  8. Hey guys, I am keen for a retro ride, but 13 September not doable for me as that's the weekend of Ride to Nowhere and I will be in Montague then. Keep us informed though as I will be there like a bear on any other day.
  9. Hi Wazza, I am looking for a track specific Campy chain ring if you have one. Pls PM me with your details so I can contact you to discuss.
  10. Hear hear. Very pretty groupset. And being a Campy fan its hard for me to say that. Going to be an awesome build Eppie...
  11. Nice!!!! Best wheels I ever had were 32 spoke Mavic GP4's on Campy low flange hubs and DT swiss DB spokes... Wish I still had them to go on my Alan
  12. Hi Guys, I am looking for one of these derailleurs for my Alan Super record.......Anyone got one lying around they would be willing to sell?? Fantastic pic Morph.......
  13. The front derailleur you show is identical to the one on the Vitesse. The current rear derailleur is a Nuovo Record version. I have the original Gran Sport one, but it is a little tatty and very heavy and in need of some TLC so i have installed a Nuovo Record version that i had knocking about. The shifters are interesting in the sense that each lever is on its own band rather than both shifters on one band. For each one, the Campy logo is correctly orientated too. The bike has Weimann centrepull brakes. Again, the levers were ratty and in disrepair. I have replaced them with a set of GB levers bought from a hubber. Not the original part, but looks ok. Handlebars and Stem are GB. The front wheel is also not original, but i have a plan in place to get a wheel that matches the rear Gnutti 5 speed hub and Fiamme rim. Still looking for some decent gumwall tyres in size 27 X 1 1/4. Anybody have any ideas? And i still would like to change the toestraps to a natural brown colour I will certainly ask him more of the history of the bike and share with him your history and see if we can get some additional info. With regards parting with the bike. Not likely. Lots of sentimental value within the family.
  14. Wow Loosecog That's amazing. The colour schemes are identical. I got my one from my uncle who bought in in Cape Town in about 1964. He was quite a serious road cyclist in his younger days. I was him that was instrumental in coaxing me thru my first Argus cycle tour in 1980 at age 12. He is too old to ride now and the bike was in pieces in his garage in Pretoria. He offered it to me and i have basically just stripped it, cleaned it up and re-assembled it to what you see in the pics. Still need to do gear cables and one side of handlebar tape and then we set for a test ride. I too have not found out much about the brand so it would be great if anybody else could shed some light.
  15. Nearing Completing, my 1964 (I think) model Vitesse. Anyone know anything of this brand?
  16. What bikes are most ridden in XCO, Hard tail or soft tail?
  17. And drill a small 0.5 mm hole at the end of the crack to stop it propagating any further.... Like the windscreen guys do. I have seen a few cracks like this and i am of the opinion that it wont fail catastrophically. IE, the headset insert should offer some support if it fails further. But that's my opinion and i would like to hear from other hubbers that have experienced such cracks. Anyone fallen off yet??
  18. All the Pyga 110 and 120's shown on these pages run single front chainrings. So why oh why have the ugly front derailleur hanger welded irrevocably in place!!!!! If i ever bought one, i would be forced to Dremel tool it off!! It detracts from an otherwise spectacular, beautiful frame.....
  19. Damn this is the prettiest frame on this forum. Really nice!!!
  20. Bingo!!!! Fixer, you are the first person (other than the guy i bought the frame from) to mention this name. And i did buy the frame from a guy in Pretoria. Can you give any more info on this builder as all the discussion around RSA frame builders dont mention this guy? Any idea when he built frames, how many, tubing he used? Most importantly, what did the decals look like? Thanks
  21. Thanks Morpheus. Would be great to get a definitive match. Any idea how i can get hold of Bill De Lange
  22. Looking at the pics of the previous posters DHC, the fork looks very similar, so perhaps it is a DHC. The seat lug however is very different. Who built the DHC frames? I know DHC was marketed as an Inhouse brand by Deale and Huthe Cycles, but who was the frame builder? The hubber i bought this frame from suggested that a builder named "vince" built this frame. Perhaps "Vince" did some building for DHC Thanks for the response Morpheus. I figured it would pique your interest. What makes you think it looks like a Bill De Lange frame. Perhaps I should send him a pic and ask him. Any idea how he can be contacted.
  23. Hi Guys, Can anyone shed some light on who made this track frame? I believe it was built by a builder in JHB in the 80's. It has a rather unusual seat clamp arrangement. I would very much like to establish who built this frame, as I am about to embark on restoration. I have posted this request in a previous forum, but havent been able to identify the frame yet. http://www.thehubsa....e__hl__identify Any help would be greatly appreciated.
