  1. DEPECHE MODE does it for me. Also I PVR'd the entire Tour this year and like to watch while I pedal.
  2. This can be arranged
  3. NICE!! I often hear the people from the North commenting that they have better hills than us
  4. Looks like there will be no problem getting Hubbers to join in, all we need is a firm date then?
  5. What about the day before 94.7? If we keep the pace slow and the distance reasonable (as it was last time)it would be a good leg stretcher ride before the race? Only problem is that the likes of Emotion cycling,Thule and the like will have their hands full at the 94.7 expo.
  6. If the frame can be brought to Lexus The Glen (approx 5km from Alberton) Next to the Glen Shopping Centre I will gladly help.
  7. Yep it was areally cool ride! Gleneagles is the Aerea given to the space between Camoro rd and Glenanda North. Lexus is next to the Glen shopping centre, nest to the Toyota Dealership, Rand Stadium Toyota. I recon we rope in some more sponsors this time, I am thinking of people winning Carbon Wheels and other otherwise expensive goodies supplied by the companies that feed off cycling in general. I know that Sign up will get involved and that it wont be a problem to organise Marshals either. My only question is when?
  8. Does anyone remember the HUB Ride done from The Merc Dealership in Midrand about 2 years ago? I was instrumental in putting it together and would like to do the same from the LEXUS Dealership in Gleneagles (JHB South). At Merc we had a nice display from Emotion cycles and Thule who also joined the ride, we had a turn out of about 40 to 50 Hubbers and enjoyed our 60 odd km social ride out to PTA and back to find that Merc had laid out some refreshments (food), coffee, Tea and even a few beers!! The morning was topped off with one lucky Hubber winning a CLK Cabrio for the weekend! I say we do this again, LEXUS is fully on board and once again one lucky Hubber will win a weekend in a super stylish Cabriolet! What do you think?
  9. Hi Stretched@Birth I know a route via Alberton up Heidelberg rd right to Rocherville over the m2 into kensington up and over to Louis Botha ave into Old JHB rd (you would turn off into Marlboro dr)and on to Midrand. I have driven the route a few times to try and suss it out - seems rather dangerous with Taxis on Louis Botha and Trucks in Rosherville(ESCOM)and on the old JHB rd all in all it would be a 52 km for me. I agree that when Gautrain comes on line it will mean the possibility of riding to town and then taking the train which will be awsome - My Brother could join us as he works at Wits most days so he would ride with us to town. I would probably ride the train all the way to Midrand though. Anyone else out there traveling from S to N?
  10. I would really like to ride to work, my distance would be closer to 50k's one way using back roads. I would not like to try this out on my own, I would hope to get a small bunch together, wishfull thinking I know. I would ride from the South to midrand, anybody out there with similar aspirations? Training and commuting done all in one fowl swoop. Do you think they will allow bikes onto the Gautrain??

That is a really good idea, this is what I mean, we need the marketing people out there to see the value of exposing their businesses to new prospectve customers. If any deals are done on the ride we can call them "Deals on Wheels"

SO is this going to happen? My Boss is keen, the more people our business is exposed to the better!!
  15. I have noticed how the Golfers in our company manage to justify time away from work for Golf by reminding non Golfers that lots of business is done on Golf courses especialy on Wednesday afternoons. I dont see why riding is any different, in fact it should be much more effective as a business platform as the numbers on any given social ride normaly exceed that of your garden variety Four Ball. So here goes..... I suggest we meet at Suikerbos Nature reserve every Wednesday afternoon at say 14h00 for a networking session, bring your business cards and company info, wear your cycling kit with your company logo on it if you have, everyone understands that it is a business ride and will not be adverse to discussing business in the bunch, I could do worse than inform a good bunch of cyclists that our Mercs are on special and I would love to give business to fellow cyclists rather than any old joe schmo. Any takers??
  16. Brad is not in great shape, He is being operated on in an hours time due to severe bleeding in his head, Dr's speculate that most of his bones are iether broken or fractured, only his Hip and Shoulders seem to be in tact. he remains sedated, Paramedics who assisted him initially are saying they dont know how he survived the crash. Lets pull together, think positivly and pray for him.
  17. I am looking for people to join me in cycling to work and back. I am getting gatvol of not having time to train and sitting for hours in the JHB traffic. I am commuting from JHB South / Alberton to Midrand daily - around 45km's one way depending on the route. Is there anyone out there feeling the same way? I am thinking of putting together a bunch of cyclists who alternate in Riding and driving with the possibility of a lift scheme scenario for those who only want to ride one way or when bad weather strikes etc... Any thoughts, takers, ideas????
  18. I have been informed by an extended family member that Bradley Potgieter of the MTN cycling team has been seriously injured in a Car accident early this morning. Details of his condition are sketchy but I believe that his injuries are serious and that he is being kept sedated in hospital. He is in my prayers and I wish him a full speedy recovery.
  19. I recon a good race all in all, I managed to stay left of the white line 99.9% of the time. I agree that the marshals and orginisers did a very good Job and I like the actual (Vehicles) visability of the new sponsor, using company vehicles to act as sweepers. I say that when racing we have to deal with the road conditions as they are there is no way that organisers can sweep etc.......Think Pari Robaix... Sorry to hear of one or two crashes, hope all involved are ok!
  20. You are right Toffee, he looked as if he was having a super miserable day!
  21. Thanks Sammajoor, I certainly will do. Knowing that the Sammajoor is watching my back makes me feel much better!! I recon we should look at doing another leisurely Hub ride in Midrand/PTA area sometime soon....dont you think??
  22. I crossed the line, a few times, so did the majority of us at some time or other. I understand the dangers. How then do cyclists race on our roads with these massive bunches? A genuine humble question. Going up on the left is an option I suppose. Or maybe we ride the entire race in one spot wherever we find ourselves in the pack at the start? What should we do when the bunch sudddenly slows or stops....all pile in? Or swerve out - cross the line and get hit by a car...
  23. Big bunches vs small roads is always going to be a problem. a BIG THANK you to our Marshal on the big orange HONDA. He had his hands full all the way and did a remarkable JOB
