  1. Thanks Frail, yes the cyclists brother was there, and his employer as well - he spoke highly of the guy - a committed marathon runner apparently. The bike was his daily transportation from Masiphumele to work and back. Must be about a 50k round trip.
  2. Jens takes his job way too seriously to try and do it on bread and water. Simple as that.
  3. I'm a huge Jens fan but I the idea that he never doped is extremely hard to swallow, even coming from him. I totally understand why he would come out and deny it but frankly I doubt it.
  4. good meetup this morning. The mayor showed up, good to see Dave Bellairs as well, Peter Wheeler, Tarmac, Boris, American Flyers, Frail, Andrew Wheeldon of BEN Bikes.. anyone else I missed?
  5. Sure, I can't speak as a user, only as a grumbly old front end developer heheh
  6. And now... 'css support identical to outlook 2010' .. yay! http://www.campaignmonitor.com/blog/post/3769/a-designers-guide-to-outlook-2013
  7. We were kind of stuck already but we first actually went properly backwards in 2007 : http://www.campaignmonitor.com/blog/post/2393/microsoft-takes-email-design-b/ More recently : http://fixoutlook.org/
  8. Outlook is the biggest handbrake of all in terms of raw out-of-dateness. HTML email is actually still stuck in the '90s and it's almost 100% due to Outlook and the decisions M$ have made around using the Word rendering engine.
  9. A new version of any OS is at least a minor ballache. Personally from my perspective, a new version of Windows is just another handbrake for the internet and a new black hole to shovel productivity into. I'm thinking specifically of IE, Outlook and Word. Will this bloatware never die? Not that I use it, but as someone coding and designing for the web, the testing cycle demands that I spend a whole lot of time pressing control F5 and headbutting monitors. M$, wasting my time since 1999. Thanks Bill.
  10. me too, looking forward to it
  11. Also sack Phil the Shill Liggett and get Greg Lemond in to replace him. Greg and Phil both have chronic foot-in-mouth disease, but at least Greg doesn't floss his gnashers with LA's pubes.
  12. Get Mike Ashenden to run the bio passport independently of the UCI and give him LA's reclaimed winnings since 1995 as an annual budget. Then we will see riders **** big brown grapefruits in their bicycle pant
  13. maybe, but last year guys rode for position at 42km/h
  14. Absolutely, thanks for taking this on and trying to make a difference.
  15. Well that sounds frustrating, but I think in light of the tragedy yesterday there will be support for better bus drivers and stricter adherence to the law.
  16. Thanks Peter. I thought the 1.5m bumper sticker campaign was a good start. Maybe it could be taken further, using the available funds to make a piece of kit handed out to Argus entrants that signifies a commitment to cycle responsibly and / or shows the original spirit of the Cycle Tour - as a road safety protest. For example, a highly visible cycling jersey - free to all Argus entrants - with a clear message on the back promoting responsible driving and cycling. This way the wearer feels a duty to ride responsibly, as do the motorists they're sharing the road with. This could be paid for in part with money from sponsors who could get their logo on the top or whatever it is. Basically I'm trying to think of a way to spread the safety message - take it from the car bumper and put it on the cyclist, and do this in a way that gets it out there in large numbers. The Argus has 30-40,000 entrants which makes for a great opportunity to do this. People are always very interested in what's in the goodie bag, so why not put something in it that can save lives. I guess an alternative is to hand out something like this with the PPA membership renewal. Maybe a poll and dedicated thread is in order, so that we can canvas for ideas around road safety.
  17. I appreciate you sharing why you left and I'd like to hear from PPA why they are sitting on the cash. Do you have any thoughts as to the reasoning, or is somebody making money out of the interest?
  18. You are incorrect that nothing will happen. Personally I'm not prepared to let this go without a satisfactory response from Golden Arrow. This is a two way street and we have the power to make things happen.
  19. Le Mond has his own open letter of sorts now.. not well written but it makes up for it in authentic righteous anger http://forum.cyclingnews.com/showthread.php?t=19133
  20. Maybe we will see some degree of change following the current meltdown.
  21. Yes it is 100% a possibility. Sadly history dictates that it's a very very small one.
  22. Next is when we find out what Sky have been putting in their black motorbikes. Could be a while though. No cancer shield but the cashflow is strong with this one.
  23. Gavin Hill, the Bristol bus driver caught on camera running down a cyclist, was immediately dismissed by his company and got 17 months in jail for GBH - not long enough to set a proper example for the motoring public in my opinion. I'm waiting with great interest to see how Golden Arrow handle this. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2102578/Cyclist-Phillip-Mead-forgives-road-rage-bus-driver-Gavin-Hill-mowed-down.html
  24. Edit - didn't realise you were talking about Levi, my apologies
  25. Hey Steve, yes we both know the road, I live parallel to it in Gatesville Road. Where this incident happened the road is open - which is borne out by the fact that a bus was travelling down it. I don't feel any of the history of the road is really relevant to this thread. The simple fact is the driver felt he had the right of way, broke the law and a life was lost. An example must be made. The silly season is just getting started and it won't be long before I am cycling past another blanket lying in the road, or worse.
