  1. OK so, my Stage frame theoretically lands at my door in February. Pretty well set on all the parts but have a chain line and crank question. I'm intending to run 1x11 XT gearing but not sure about cranks. Q1. With the +5 system do I need to adjust the chainring spacing on the drive side at all ( i.e with spacers etc). I know I'll need to adjust the wheel dishing but should I be lookin out for anything specific with the crankset? Q2- I'm keen on the XT cranks but I hear they only take M8000 chain rings because of the BCD. I like Oval rings ( no debate required, I just like them), is this true about the XT specificity? 2. My LBS owner loves Canyons, says he spends loads of time fixing them Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I've gone 1X10 with 32oval front and 11-40 praxis works cassette, works a treat. When I need a new cassette will move to 11sp Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Reba at 120mm would be spot on for all but the gnarliest stuff. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Medium I reckon, I'm super comfortable on a medium Oneten Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Thanks for the feedback Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Is a Stage worth the upgrade? I've been debating bike options for multi-day and marathon events in Europe for months. Currently have a Oneten with 140mm and short stem with dropper post and trail wheels. I ride mostly natural single track/ enduro trails at the weekend, but do at least 3 marathon events a year (and the requisite training) along with a stage race every 2 years. I also want to get back into the local xc series. I like my Oneten as a trail bike and don't want to change spec for races, is a Stage worth it or should I look towards Anthem/ Cannondale/Scott/ Rocky Mountain etc Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Swapping to Summer tyres is going to save me 400g so that's a start at a cheap price
  9. Nice. My 110 is coming in at 14.9!! So I've a lot of work to do.
  10. There is an arrogance amongst riders of a (self) perceived ability that often gets the better of them especially in larger groups. Usually guys and girls who are fast but not quite fast enough, trying to compensate for unmet expectations of grandeous delusions. The really fast/fit (generally) tend not to be as brash, they display a well earned confidence often accompanied by humility....simply put, okes in big groups who reckon they're the manne are gobshites!
  11. Thanks, that's what I am thinking, running 1x10 for cc and General club rides and then 2x10 for marathon. Got some inexpensive n/r and expander rings off superstar components to try
  12. Nice build! You running1x10 I see, thinking of doing the same on my 11029er, how do you find it on longer marathon events and climbs. So much debate I'd rather chat to a guy who had it on the same bike
  13. Super excited, after much debate and testing multiple bikes, I placed an order for a Oneten 29er, should arrive this week! Used a Morewood Zula 650b convert for the last 3 yrs and was convinced I'd not find a 29er I like, until I tried a Oneten. An SA expat into Ireland is bringing them in ( bugger got there before I could) and my LBS have the deal to stock them....seems serendipitous I'd end up on another Morewood designed machine. Medium Oneten ( frame on its way) Parts waiting to go on: XFusion Trace 120mm WTB KOM rims on Hope pro 2 Evo hubs, Conti mountain king tyres Hope BB and headset Rental 50mm stem Answer 680mm bars XT gearing and brakes Race face turbine 2x10 crankset Rockshox reverb dropper post Fixik Gobi saddle Can't wait to get this thing built
  14. Finally got the bike built up and out on a first ride
  15. Thanks guys the trailer idea crossed my mind, but I might have to drop off in JHB so will have to enquire, but could be the winner there. Appreciate the input, not keen to bring my own rack as I did that on a rental in Europe, scuffed the paint and got hit for serious repair costs.......once bitten. I'll check out rental agencies linked to mango, thanks Gary
  16. Hi, anybody got advice on renting a car for 4 adults, 2 kids and 2 mountain bikes. Am travelling to Cape Town with some Irish friends for a biking trip ( ok we told the ladies it was a road trip) but am struggling to find good options on rental cars with bike racks or similar. Thinking an SUV with a tow bar rack or MPV with rook racks etc.... Thanks
  17. i did just that. Limited to 2.2 tires on the rear....no issue in the dry trails in SA but makes it interesting in the schlomp up here in Ireland. Loving the conversion though. Stans ztr arch rims on Hope pro 2 hubs. X-fusion Velvet 120mm fork (dropping to 100) for the marathons though. Half the price of the Reba's...which I love the 26" version off, but budgets dictates otherwise....and to be honest I have had no issue besides a little settling and sag adjustment in the beginning.
  18. So my FM029 frame set is on its way, am debating whether I should add paint accents when it gets here, or decals with clear coat, or simply leave the UD Matt carbon and accent it with coloured finishing kit etc.....love me an ol' project.
  19. Servicing the Rebas is dead simple, have done it a few times myself over the years I have had mine, just take it one step at a time, use a rubber mallet not a hammer, make sure you get the oil volumes right and you'll be laughing! check out SRAMs youtube channel for step by step videos of how to do it. If you struggle to get a kit from your LBS, CRC have them Good luck.
  20. yep thats the problem I am having. Thanks for the replies, will keep hunting. Regards Gary
  21. Thanks guys for all the replies, looks like Pioneer and Sani2C top contenders.
  22. Hi guys I am looking to enter a stage race in SA next year with an Irish buddy of mine, been bragging to him for ages about the quality races in SA, but not sure which is best to enter. Obviously Epic is the holy grail for SA stage races, but not sure we'll get entry and might be biting off a little too much first up. I previously did the Sabiexperience a few years ago and love it, but ideally they want to see the Cape. Whats the Pioneer like as an event, is it tough to get entries etc etc? Any other events we should consider for next year? Thanks Gar
  23. HI guys, not looking to open a huge debate on wheel size options here. Have 2 26'er bikes already and pending family expansion ruling out purchasing a new 29er......at least for a while but dont tell the wife. I am however very interested in converting my hardtail to 650b, have checked sizing etc and it'll work but for the life of me I cannot find where to buy the bleeding things except via USA. Ideally looking to purchase from EU based options as I am in EU at the moment, but would happilly buy from home if there were a few decent options. I am aware of the pitfalls of converting to odd sizes ie getting replacements etc, but will always have a spare bike if have to wait a while, and keen to see what the hype is about for myself. (ps this is a new account as my previous one, username Garykid, was created with an email I no longer have access to and for the life of me I cant remember the password, I am not a one post wonder. If anyone in Admin can advise how to retrieve access to usual account without previous email I would appreciate it) Thanks Gary
