  3. Zone 1: - LSD (Long Slow Distance) - Very easy (too easy) - Heart Rate at approximately 60% of your maximum Zone 2: - Seems like a natural road pace - Feels like a little workout - Not productive because too high to recover & too low to develop - Heart Rate at approximately 70-75% of your maximum Zone 3: - Slow race pace - Moderate trail ride - Develops your aerobic capacity & power - Heart Rate at approximately 75-80% of your maximum Zone 4: - Long Intervals - Develops speed - Hard Riding - Race pace on a good day - Heart Rate at approximately 80-90% of your maximum Zone 5: - All out sprint / as hard as possible - Heart Rate at approximately 90-100% of your maximum
  4. thats awesum, congrats guys
  5. yeah i just read the tips on the website, tubless, and dual is advised.... hopefully my argus training will ease the punishment of this race by the looks of it atleast 5-6hrs in the saddle?
  6. what have i done, i booked 70 km without reading all these war stories ooooohhh eh eh sounds like we gonna ***! will be my 1st
  7. jaaa i witnessed that i saw you in a pink outfit with two elves jirre they mustve got cold cause that wind that came up halfway through the ride was nippy. there seems to be alot of tourist around that patta patta bar we spoke to some american blondie there who was amazed with the mass
  8. prob thaba, i think rietvlei shes still broken from 24hr mudfest.... have they started repairing the trails yet?
  9. yeah just a matter of time before it gets shut down, i must say as the months go on, i see more and more problems happening, how was the stench in a couple of places in the cbd fri night, damnnn
  10. im also interested in this ride.....sounds like fun
  11. personally i say vg is the best based on the fact theres all sorts of riding, theres nothing better than going out out vg forgetting about the city life and jhb madness, and sweating out your weeks stress especially up that new loop after greek church descent, you can keep yourself entertained for many hours provided you fit enough and carrying enough fluids in summer it cooks there! thaba is nice , lots of steep short bursts, as well as some nice gradual climbs like twin towers, also based in a reserve some buck cruising around, thaba will test your technical ability those awesum drop offs on the green and blue routes, you gotta be of reasonable fitness to complete green and blue route an awesum training ground kingskloof i enjoyed alot, alot of climbing , some serious downhills towards the river on pebbles, nice place to climb and get the heartbeat up 1.vg 2.thaba 3.kingskloof
  12. we certainly learnt how to drift in the forest sections, that mud was insane and sticky, i lost my sense of humour around 8 am , the tracks were finished, i wonder how they will be repaired? we certainly did a good job destroying them, im glad the guys and girls kept their spirits and continued through the rain and mud, last years 24 hr was a breeze compare to this years, after we finished yesterday i asked the mates to ride 24hr van gaalens this upcoming w-end, the responses were classic, injury excuses came out, broken bikes etc hahahahah
  13. its beach sand deluxe there, you need 4x4 to get in there besides the sand is going to chew your chain and gears, i would rather leave the bikes behind and relax thouroughly

    2012 94.7

my first road race ever, great experience, lots of fun till we got to krugersdorp hell hill, thats when my mate and i lost our sense of humour with that wind and heat, saw a couple of nasties, spectators were awesum, people were generally friendly a few chops on the road, i have newfound respect for roadies coming from mtb
  15. im heading out there in jan for 5 days il be sure to take the bikes along
  16. thats just plain madness, hell, when im at about 60km/hr i think of articles ive read with the wobble of death, sheesh at 100km/hr nooooo ways, that takes balls
  17. haaaibo somehow i think is is going to unravel alot quicker than i thought (facepalm)
  18. yeahhhh some serious downhills, one wrong move on those downhills , you going in a helivac thats for sure
  19. it definately does take practice, cause man after the 2nd climb at suikerbossie (the one that never ends) you really got to convince yourself and htfu to spin the rest,
  20. yeaahhh i dont have a problem with spinning to much, but id rather not and look half decent pedalling and not trapping it like a mad thing and going no where slowly hahahaha..... cause i watched the guys around me at suikerbos, they pull away nicely but then again they know their bikes and gears im still trying to get the hang of it, which i scheme is a bit late as 94. is around the corner
  21. yeah , i do a bit, but id rather struggle on climbs and force myself to get stronger than spin wayyyy to much and the other guys ride away like im standing still on the flats
  22. please can some one give me advice, im a mtb who has built up a road bike to do the 94.7, i have a compact crank on the front 50-34 what selection shall i put on the back? i have a 11-30 i think, but i spin to much and its kaaaak, what rear cassette shall i put on 11-24,11-25? provided this gets me through the 94.7 comfortably,
  23. i had rocket rons on, non stop puntures atleast 1nce a ride, converted mountain king front, race king back, a bit heavier but never looked back no puntures, good grip, and i have more confidence in corners and rocky downhills like dagga pad etc, i have had 1 punture or burp on contis
  24. we got caught in the storm, we parked under the sheds by the tar road for a bit to let the storm ease then saw a group and gave it horns with them to the top on the road, was awesum and the prego was even better
  25. il be there, last one was good
