  1. Will post some pics this afternoon. Also did Alpe d' Huez (from Bourg d' Oisans), a lot easier than Mt Ventoux cause its 7km's shorter. Top of my list to do next would be Col d' Iseran and the Galibier - on the pics you'll see why. We drove it (no time to ride it) and it is AWESOME.
  2. Had the fortune of a holiday in France in Sept - did Mt Ventoux on my 13kg FS, with knobblies. And from the steeper Malaucene side nogal, not from Bedoin like the TdF wimps do (had I only known before I started :-( ) EISH!!! She is not friendly... Lap 2 shows the climb details - drops in HR line is when I stopped for pics and taking of jackets etc (5min stopped not shown in graph) Btw, if you're willing to scout plane tickets, hire a car, camp and make your own food you can about do 14days in France for +- R20k. DO IT!! The Alps are fantastic and you will sell your soul to ride there for as long as possible. MildlyWild2009-10-06 02:18:55
  3. You can easily lose that much without putting your body under too much pressure. By increasing your energy expenditure with a bit of cycling, and automatically upping your base metabolism with a bit more muscle mass (legs), you will lose the weight if you watch your intake. No need to starve yourself - you'll need to eat a bit more than before probably, but keep it reasonable. The 1kg/month thing is likely better suited to an overweight, sedentary person who wants to lose weight by just eating less. Keep up the riding and the weight will come off without you trying too hard. Im currently abt 112kg's and i was aiming to get below 100 (lets say 95 - 97) by end Dec. Thats a lot more than the 1kg per month as stated by someone else on this thread. Im not saying the 1kg per month is incorrect, as ive heard that many place before, just wondering whether i can still make my target and not put myself at risk? MildlyWild2009-10-06 01:22:32
  4. Apart from Mt Ventoux and Alpe d' Huez, which rides are absolute musts around Sthrn France and the Alps, and Italy? Also mtb rides maybe? Would appreciate input - going in a week's time and the wife will allow me 2-3 rides a week for 3 weeks.
  5. Any help on good mtb rides near Underberg, Southern Drakensberg and Champagne Castle area? I'm spending 5 days there next week. Definitely doing Sani Pass.
  6. Got a bleed kit, but after using last year and doing a mates bike as well I ran out of oil - don't wanna buy a new kit just for the oil. Will chat to the LBS and see if they can help.
  7. Tried that' date=' but i ended up with smaller pebbles, then a few diamonds and some water, but no mineral oil. Come on FanD, you know almost everything...?[/quote'] hmm... i'll give you some if you give me the diamonds... sorry mate. my vast MTB experience only covers mechanical V brakes. never needed mineral oil. try the baby oil? baby oil...? if I do I will not give feedback on this forum.
  8. Tried that, but i ended up with smaller pebbles, then a few diamonds and some water, but no mineral oil. Come on FanD, you know almost everything...?
  9. Apart from JB's Rolls that is? a 20L drum is a little too much for me as well...
  10. Nope, mine's different. Which other pads would you recommend?
  11. I rode a Trek 8500 for 5 years with v-brakes - lots of races, etc. Still has the same rims as new. And I never had any hassles - easy to maintain, cheap to replace pads. And as for stopping power - I don't think my current XT discs stop better (although they could probably be better)
  12. My bike is a 07 model - how do I know whether it is M775 or not?
  13. My front ones squeal like a stuck pig - bad enough to not want to use them. Used disc cleaner on the rotors and pads and sanded the pads - no luck - probably got contaminated too badly. Which pads out there are good, and good value for money? I've got XT brakes.
  14. Okay, this is what the "climbs" are roughly about 1st: 50m vert in 1km 2nd: 23m vert in 700m 3rd: 52m vert in 1km This in a 7km stretch of road. No serious climbs, but definitely unwelcome
  15. Do you know how hard it is for the Hub to hear since Spring 2007 that you are coiming to ride league the next Spring then summer then spring and now summer league and then at the 12hr decide you not going to come and race cause of something. Bite the bullet dude and come and race. ja ja... i'm not here for 3 of the 7 rides. If it was a scenario where you pay entry fee per race i'd still do it' date=' but I cant justify that money on 4 races. Do you know how frikking expensive weddings are [/quote'] Congrats - and good luck. I had to reduce riding time for a while after my wedding - hope you manage better. And yes, unlike some other people, I understand the financial implications of certain responsibilities and what it allows or does not allow you to do... Maybe I'll catch up with you during one of the league races, when we are not racing league.
  16. Well at this rate you going to be 57th cause you not coming to race for that 10-15th you want. Im sure the guys in the top 15 will tell you.....no wait I can bet the guys in the whole league will tell you its a much better series we have and the raicng is awsome. True, maybe it's all just because I ride a R3k roadbike and feel I don't have to spend thousands(although I would like to) to be good or improve. And busy buying a bakkie and renovating home, which means that my financial priorities does not include R500 extra to do 4 league races, where admittedly I will enjoy the racing more. So yes, if I do not have more urgent use for R's I will see you in summer league. Or spring, or summer, or spring
  17. If I do league(SubVet), I'll aim for top10-15, but that's btw. Its about the cost vs benefit for me. Maybe for some its fine, but i do not believe that a rider who gets dropped in every league race is getting more benefit than he would by competing in the D-F groups. Different if you're in A-D maybe, cause then there'll be fewer riders in those grps during league races, which is not good.MildlyWild2009-01-14 01:18:31
  18. 2008 Spring League there were 69 subvets riding - think the nr's will drop a lot because of the cost now. I mean, what rider aiming for 57th place on the log will pay R850 for that priviledge? So CycleLab is pocketing a lot with this since they now run the League... But if numbers drop...?
  19. Is it just me or is R850/individual a bit expensive for riding Summer League, or am I just out of touch? Especially if one is not planning on doing all 7 rides?
  20. Hope not - if so, ouch Actually, the correct response is probably: "No, that was the other (Pl) big paint co
  21. If all else fails, remember the mace/ pepper spray I know you guys had a thread a while ago about pepper spray, but I cant find it. My wife occasionally cycles alone - what mace/pepper spray is easy to use and small to carry?
  22. Road: Merida 903 - 9.5kg MTB: Merida Mission 3000 - 12kg Maybe I should drill holes in the frame to make them lighter? Anyway, remember how much my bike weighs when I stick with the fast guys in 3 months time...MildlyWild2009-01-05 05:19:38
  23. No need Oiltrash i am done i am going out to ride my bike again i dont need to waste my time with an immature alias!! Turtlek, I've wondered whether your bunny is jiving or boxing, but I now think the latter? No jokes though, I agree with what you say - there is a bigger picture.
