  1. Oats, only semi cooked, sweetened with chopped-up dates, some cinnamon and milk. Sometimes i grade an apple into it or cut a banana into it.
  2. Niklasvm - what you say is correct. But i think what hassles some people, including myself, is not that the methodology is problematic, but its application seems to be inconsistent. Or at least the perceived application of it. I think the existing statistical model used, as david explained it to me, is a good model. But i also think that there could be merit in discussing how (or why)the adjustments are made to the winning time, and how the linear regression is applied to different races. Applying a linear regression to the actual results is a tricky and risky approach, as it might adjusts different results differently within the same race.
  3. Wannabe@ - The PPA adjustment seems to be too large. Push (friendly) the PPA to check it out (which i am sure you did). I had the same problem with the Oudtshoorn race in Jan10, where they took the winning time of the medium race as the winning time for the long race. +-3 month later it was changed. It helps to phone RaceTec directly!!
  4. Still in K (just)
  5. PPA said that everyone's seeding could/would go down (or rather up the alphabet soup) by one or two steps... Just means that we have to work harder 'n smarter in Worcester!
  6. Has the new PPA spring seeding been updated?? They told me on Thursday that it will be done on Friday morning. On Friday I only got home very late. When i checked my seeding it was the same - but now i don't know if: a.) the seeding was done and mine stayed the same or b.) the seeding has not yet been update?
  7. Caveat emptor - "Let the buyer beware" and that has not changed in the last 2000 years.
  8. I fully agree with you - and i am saying this as a full time 100% road cyclists who (tries) to ride fast. I just try to ride with guys 'n girls who are a bit more relaxed, look-out for each other, love cycling, but are also competitive.
  9. Roadies are bad, bad, bad, bad, they are really bad - they are nearly as bad as the mtb'ers (P.S.: as a full time roadie i try to be good 95% of the time to 95% of the road users; i am only 100% good when i am spinning; i wave back - except when i go 39km/h plus)
  10. Over how many days was the Rapport Tour? Was it at the coast or inland? Did they race as a team?
  11. Well done M Cavendish for the stage win! The average speed for this race went up to 39km/h vs the forecasted 41km/h. Still on the slow side. It will be informative to see how the speed of this TdF compares with the other TdFs.
  12. So they are just saving themselves for the 4 mountain stages.
  13. While doing work i follow the TdF on the BBC and Spiegel.de websites (life text commentary). Now something interesting is happening - stage 11 (184km) - +-40km still to go - basically a flat race. The average speed up to now has been about 37km/h and the race organisers said that this race should have an average speed of 41km/h. So what is happening. Maybe the TdF riders really stopped doping?!? Or is it something else.
  14. Should that not be under the "For Sale" section. Or just a std paid ad?!?
  15. I think it's expensive but still affordable - if that makes sense!?! It costs a lot just to have a halfway decent life. After paying for 3 kids at very good schools, house, cars, medical, tax, RA, etc there is not much left. Race fees are a small amount compared to the cost of the bike, traveling, time, etc. If i feel that it's not good value i just will not go. But I am happy to pay for a good race, such as Die Burger, Knysna, Argus, 94.7, and i always like the first road race in spring, the Worcester race which is normally cold and windy, but such a good start to the race season.
  16. Just my 2 cents worth: I have been cycling for over 4 years now and loving it; my road cycling fitness is continuously improving; am K seeded with PPA; have no interest in going to the gym - never been at a gym. But a few things happened during the last few month - i slightly cracked my shoulder joint and had to give cycling a break; work got very busy; had a nasty cold for the last few weeks (it returns...); my cycling fitness is low; and two weeks ago my better half took out a family gym contract. So i went to the spinning classes - well, after figuring out how it all works, what to wear, etc - I really enjoyed the spinning classes, especially how convenient it is. It fits in well with work/family/winter/etc. It is not as good as a club ride but it is good for what it is. And if you push youself hard it really works on once fitness. Have been going 5 times per week and i really feel that my fitness is getting up to scratch!! I am not looking for core muscle strength as i am fairly big and my upper body strength is high. But i want to improve my road cycling fitness and i can see how spinning at the gym can help me with that.
  17. WOW, this sounds great!! A mid week night ride with a good distance as well. Just a few quick questions: 1.) Where does it start ? 2.) can one do it on a road bike? 3.) what is the traffic like on the N1 at 17h45 (i would be coming from town)
  18. i used a company in Strand, Western Cape, to do some development and production work for a specific EVA product. That was a few years ago. Can not think of the company's name, but there should not be too many of those in Strand. They were very helpful and good. Keep the costs of development (R&D) separate from the production costs. Check who owns the mould, design, IP, etc.
  19. Okay, latest and last update: Sub 3's Argus finishers: <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> 2010 - 138 (?) (very windy, boy's drive, 110km) 2009 - 111 (storm, boy's drive, 110km) 2008 - 1781 (no boy's drive) very good weather 109km 2007 - 1340(+-) (no boy's drive) perfect weather 109km 2006 - 815 (no boy's drive) cool weather 108km 2005 - 237 (very windy) 108km 2004 - 936 (good weather) 108km 2003 - 810(+-) (De-tour, very good weather) 109km 2002 - 315(+-) (De-tour, part of the Argus was stopped, HOT 42C) 109km 2001 - 460(+-) (De-tour) 109km 2000 - 384 (first De-tour ? 109km) 1999 - 1225 (105km, Maiden Cove finish, Chappies) 1998 - 323 (105km, Maiden Cove finish, Chappies) 1997 - 449 (105km, Maiden Cove finish, Chappies) 1996 - 487 (105km, Maiden Cove finish, Chappies) 1995 ? 1654 perfect weather, (105km, Maiden Cove finish, Chappies) 1994 ? 1414 good weather (20 000 entries, 105km, Maiden Cove finish) 1993 - 1051 good weather, (4 seeding races were used, 105km, Maiden C.) Take or leave a few... Apparently, out of a total of 165 000 individual Argus entries, 7900 have done one or more sub 3 hour finishes.
  20. Breakfast - here. Brunch - there. Lunch - overthere and pudding in Campsbay.... With cokes and messages inbetween. Now you started something! If the SE is going crazy in 2011 - we must do this next year!
  21. Sorry Shaun231 - they spoke about it on CapeTalk. The road Engineer said that they are way behind schedule and they are worried about how the people living south of FishH can travel to work etc. The interviewer then mentioned - what abohut the Argus 2011? I am sure they will work something out.
  22. Ha Ha - yeap we just might do a "booze cruise" RaceTec used 108km for 2006/5
  23. I am not sure? Might be that the finish moved slightly or something like that. Apparently, over the years, out of a total of 165 000 individual Argus entries, 7900 have done one or more sub 3 hour finishes. For 2011, the big question will be: 1.) will it still go over Boy's Drive; and 2.) if the Falsebay road construction gets stuck between KBay and FishH - what road can be taken? Very small chance of another De-tour?!? Hope not.
  24. Sub 3's finishers: 2010 - 138 (?) (very windy, boy's drive, 110km) 2009 - 111 (storm, boy's drive, 110km) 2008 - 1781 (no boy's drive) very good weather 109km 2007 - +-1340 (no boy's drive) perfect weather 109km 2006 - 815 (no boy's drive) 108km cool weather 2005 - 237 (very windy) 108km 2004 - 936 (good weather) 2003 - +-810 (De-tour, very good weather) 109km 2002 - +-315 (De-tour, part of the Argus was stopped, HOT 42C) 109km 2001 - +-460 (De-tour) 109km 2000 - 384 (1st De-tour, 109km) 1999 - 1225 (105km, Maiden Cove finish, Chappies) Take or leave a few... 25. If you go onto the CycleLab website, you will find a really "sweet" article on how Mango will look after your bike and that they are the best for your bike etc, etc. Very sorry about your bike!
