  1. It will take quite a while to finish it. The new road is not the primary reason for the construction taking place. The main work is to put new water, sewage, electricity etc piping into the ground to accommodate the growing suburbs. The only place to do that is underneath the road. So the new road is just the finishing off of the main job.
  2. lifetime warranty - effective till the frame brakes, that would be the end of it's "life", hence the end of the lifetime warranty as well. (just joking) Check the invoice and warranty doc. Also consider using the Small Claims Court. Can work really well and its cheap, plus the law (for a change) is in your favour.
  3. Yes it will change the nature and format of the relationship between clients/consummers and the provider of products and services. Many of the excuses used by the providers will be of an lesser use; i.e. provide what has been promised and don'y blame others for not getting it right. Also the nature of advertising will change – the use of adjectives will be reduced; i.e. “jhb best and coolest race…” will cause many problems with the CPA. Plus one should get an refund under certain conditions. (I am not a fan of the CPA – but it has its advantages)
  4. "Spankman come" (the sequel) "Don't touch me on my Tank, MAN!" "Wolfie in your Tank"
  5. I agree with you. Seeding should happen fast. What i meant was - the method and parameters of the seeding (the methodology of the process) should stay consistent and only be changed after each season and not during the season. And that should be comunicated to us at the start of the season (i.e. this is how we will do it - any changes must wait till the next season). So that we know at the start of each season how our race valuation will be done. And not be surprised / confused during the season.
  6. I am just glad that I am not the only one who finds the way the seeding is done, both irritating and frustrating. I can see two key problems: 1. There seems to be no consistency – race results are adjusted, to the extend, that our seeding results are not sufficiently comparable, nor fair. 2. There is also a lack of transparency – what we are doing right now is just making “educated” guesses. If it would be clear how a race is adjusted than we “would know”. Why are the individual race seeding/adjustments details a secret? They should be on the website for all to see. Those non-disclosures just cause suspicion and anger. Maybe its time to have a nationally consistent system. And for practical reasons it should only be changed/adjusted on yearly or half-yearly base.
  7. Two points i want to make (m2c worth): 1.) If you don't like the changes - vote with your feets/wheels. Do your own racing in A etc. Maybe make your own price giving, pool some money (+-R20 per person) and make your own prices. Form your own club teams and write your race reports on The Hub. And just ignore Cat. 1/2. Just an thought. 2.) My own situation - started cycling 3 to 4 years ago. Performance slowly improved. Train when others sleep. Maybe (big fat maybe) next season i just might be able to join Vets 40+. It would be a great personal achievement for me. But what now? Will i miss out? Is now the racing only for the young pros? (no disrespect to the pros)
  8. Ronelle - thanks for the great pics. Top quality!
  9. Great service! Good prices. Excellent workshop. Not too much stock on the shelfs. Always helpful and friendly. They always give you honest advice and do not sell you something that you don't really need. Have been using them for the last 2 years; I am happy and my bike is happy
  10. Elvin - welcome to the cape! PPA - us cyclist have a love/hate relationship with the PPA (that's a long story = short).
  11. Well said. One needs to know the diff between a Need and a Want.
  12. Max - both time and intensity. As in 4 - 6 rides/workouts a week at high intensity for about 2 weeks. and then just take it easy for the next 2 weeks. I did that before the Worcester race - my legs were "dead" for 12 days and only started to feel good 2 days before the race. But keep in mind that this works for me at this phase/stage of my cycling. I only started cycling 4 years ago. My fitness has increased during that time and i feel that i have not yet reached my peak. I also found it very, very usefull to have longer breaks (1 or 2 months) - when i cracked my shoulder in April i hardly cycled for 3 month. After that, with gym work and cycling, my fitness level just jumped up one full level. It really surprised me as i thought the long break would reduce my fitness. I think my body needs longer breaks inbetween training. Just my 2c worth.
  13. Had the same problem. Now i max my training 3 to 4 weeks before a main race and then take it easy for the last 2 weeks. Normally after very hard training week(s), my body needs 2 easy weeks to recover (only do easy stuff; no interval training) and use this time to eat healthy and sleep more. By the time the race comes my body is soooo keen to ride! I am not an experienced rider.
  14. Wow – this has been a most informative read. During the last 12 month I have started using some aspects of low GI, such as oats, nearly no sugar, etc, etc. Mark - A quick question – about 6 month ago I started using dates in my food. A few slices with my oats in the morning and during a race I take a few bites from a small bock of dates (now i hardly ever use gels). It seems to work well for me. How do dates fit into the low GI nutrition? Any advice?
  15. Or phone the Sports Science institute and tell them what your needs are and see what they say.
  16. Sure thing! I'll see you there.
  17. This coming weekend/Sat is good with me! We'll confirm between each other closer to the date. Will run it by Rodney and sms a few guys to see if they are keen.
  18. Thanks Woofie for organising this morning's ride - it went very well and i am glad we did it, even if it felt like madness to get up at 3h45 to do a 4h45 ride. But the concept should work really well = do a 2 hours ride at 70%plus, followed by a hard club ride (most of it at race pace) for another 1.5 hours. That really should built some race fitness!! I struggled at the end of the club ride. We must do it again. Thanks again.
  19. Yes - i meant Sat. Maybe sms me Fri evening rather.
  20. Ok - i will come; Tview at Fri 4h45 - where should we meet? At the club ride parking lot? Batteries are charging for the lights.
  21. I am keen - let me check what is happening on Fri night - i think my better-half's best friend is comiing - as they will be chatting, i can have an early night. But i'll confirm with you. have two lights - will charge the batteries.
  22. Hi W. Which route do you want to do? Would you join the club ride after that - it starts now at 7h00?
  23. Have a look under the Events section of the hub. There has been a very informative discussion.
  24. I have never worn a road tire out - normally the bad cuts make me stop using a tire. I try to fix/glue/batch(from the back) them but after a while they just get too "cut-up". I normally buy a new tire every +-1/2 year; i use gator skins for general riding and attack/force for racing but might get GP4000S next time. I think i do about 5000km a year on my bike.
  25. It looks as if it has a physical and/or medical cause. My personal experience is – go to the Sports Science Institute next to Newlands stadium. They are exceptionally good at sorting out these kind of situations. Just phone them and ask them who (which professional) would be most applicable.
