  1. What an irresponsible thing to say. I've had two bad crashes and in both instances helmets were damged. How would the energy (that damaged each helmet) have been dissipated if I was not wearing a helmet?? Through my head of course.... I'm not a doctor, but simple logic dictates that there is some benefit to wearing a helmet.
  2. Cassie. Yip, same question from me. Why not start a new thread? Would no doubt make for interesting reading. ;-)
  3. Sorry bud. Glad that u at least walked away. May the thieves' crotches be infested by the fleas from a thousand camels and their fingers turn into fishing hooks.
  4. How do you come to the conclusion that jonkershoek is ridden by posers if you've never been there?
  5. Lol.... No. But it did cross my mind while I was reading it! /facepalm
  6. I'd rather spend that time riding my bike!
  7. Think you've achieved the opposite of what you intended. You've alienated the very community you sought support from. #epicfail
  8. That "black ring" is called a bearing race. It sits between your fork and the lower headset bearing. You can remove it from your old fork - prise it off by sticking a screwdriver into the little rectangular cut out in the fork just below the race (visible in the pic). Best to have your local bike shop re-fit it to the new fork using a race setting tool. You generally can't buy the race separately. It comes as part of a headset bearing set which includes the upper and lower bearings, cups, races and seals. That said, that race has seen better days (looks a little pitted). My suggestion would be to have a new headset bearing fitted, again leave it to your lbs to fit if you don't have the correct tools to fit the new bearing cups into your frame.
  9. Ah, understand. Plan b.... What Meezo said. Go in from the bottom of the steerer tube with a screwdriver and hammer and try and bend the tabs towards the top of the steerer. Good luck.
  10. Just knock the damaged star nut further down the steerer tube (by a couple of cm's) and fit a new one. No need to knock it out.
  11. Sorry to hear about the loss Halmar.
  12. I use an old Motorola MB525 (aka defy) for cycling. It is a GPS enabled smartphone. The phone is waterproof, quite rugged and is relatively small. Battery life is ok - running strava for about 4 hours uses about a 1/3 of the battery.
  13. Avoid the free delivery route - you are not issued a tracking number, and as such, you have no way of tracking or following up on the parcel. I prefer to use the Worldwide Tracked Delivery option. Usually only takes a couple of days longer than DHL and you collect at SAPO.
  14. The dhl handling fee is now R150. Shipment landed yesterday. I'd use the tracked service through parcelforce. What I've also noticed of late is that CRC ship from multiple locations so a single order may be sent in two parcels. Annoying if you choose DHL and then have to pay the handling fee for each parcel.
