  1. Hobby Park trails are a jungle after all the rain this season
  2. Has anyone seen the new SolarisMax or BFeMax out in the wild in SA? I know there used to be a lot of the previous gen models around due to someone bringing them in at that point I think. Looks like I'm going to have to think of doing the same for myself 😐
  3. I was looking at that exact same item yesterday - and yes as luck would have it no stock. I'm sure if I order they can then order from the supplier but that may take ages.
  4. I'm currently looking to buy a torque wrench that will cover the basics on a bike - i.e seatpost clamp, components and crankset. Most of what seems available would cover the 2-14n.m range, but that would be at the near limit of what my Shimano Hollowtech crankset requires. (12-15n.m). I'm assuming that will still be adequate? The other part would be as to what's available at present with stock of a lot of items fairly limited online. Are there any bike shops where one can buy a torque wrench in this range in the Jhb area? https://www.evobikes.co.za/product/workshop-tool-torque-wrench-2-14nm/ seems to be a reasonable option online?
  5. I was in the area this December and had a small sampling of the trails starting from Cheerio gardens. Friendly folks - no permit needed but they advised that the easiest way to get around was to join the Magoebaskloof mtb group on Strava and follow the routes from there (the Cheerio garden parking area). I really didn;t get in the amount of riding that i wished due to the amount of rain over the weekend I was there but, the yellow trail that I did was a bit overgrown in places and we got lost near the main road when the trail markings contradicted each other as to the correct route to follow. I should've just gone the Strava route. Beautiful area though with lots of elevation. I d like to go back and try again.
  6. I'm also very happy with the One-Up composite pedals from TrailTech. The composite material seems very damage resistant and the pedals are holding up well. They get good reviews if you look around on the web as well.
  7. Afrikaans or not, I'd be keen on a cycling magazine where it's about the ride first, gear and fitness second. BIKE magazine (incidentally now on indefinite hiatus, I see) always went along this grain and distinguished itself from the rest in this way.
  8. Just to be certain - are they still open en welcoming to cyclists? Trails maintained to any degree? And did the decline happen gradually in terms of safety/crime or was there a precipitating event? I also have fond memories or starting MTB at Groenkloof - it was so busy at one point on the weekend, I would remember a literal train of riders going past you if you stopped to catch your breath on the side of the trail.
  9. Did the yellow trail over the weekend after not having been there in over a year. What a wonderful surprise to find it even better than before. Lots of flow and variety in scenery and of terrain. Loved the section through the spookhuis. Wonder what the backstory is i.e. who stayed there and when.
  10. As far as I'm aware a cold is exactly that- a virus. Recently had a chat with my GP - he's an honest man and wont prescribe anything just for the sake of me being there. Your only bet is to rest, take enough fluids and take an over the counter antihistamine and painkillers. Antibiotics only if things worsen after a week. Sometimes these colds/viruses come at the worst time - frustrating thing is that there doesn't seem to be an instant cure for it like we assume there should be like for everything else in life.
  11. I'm pretty much open to anything. Since posting I've actually pulled the trigger and have recieved my wheels - can't wait to get some rubber on them! I see the manual does make mention of not using UST tyres. I'm a bit confused - am I then looking for any "tubeless ready" tyre? What about folding bead tyres? Looking at anything around the 2.2-2.25 mark with durability in mind.
  12. Can anyone recommend tyres that go well with these? I like the idea of the wide rims "upsizing" the tyre size to some effect without the obvious weight gains. I have also heard of some folks having issues fitting, removing UST tyres with the rims - any truth to that?
  13. I was also swindled into being told by the guy at the gate this Sunday that the R40 I had to pay was a new arrangement by Heia, and that I needn't go to reception as well. I hope the the mess gets sorted out...and that I can take to that awesome yellow trail again
  14. Thanks - I'll have a look - too bad about the current state of affairs otherwise
  15. Hi All Anyone know of shops/dealers stocking the newer (2014/2015) line of Kona bikes? I've been intrigued by a lot of the newer models (Honzo, Process) etc. - all recieving rave reviews overseas, but I'm yet to see anyone riding them around here or any places selling them for that matter. Is it an issue of there not being a distributor/agent? Looked on the Kona website and they only list a stockist in Pta, but upon emailing the guy they are also out of stock/getting rid of older models. Anyone can help?
  16. Heartbroken when I woke up this morning to see me and my fiance's bikes missing. Living in a secure complex in North Riding. Likely an inside job - sliding door neatly lifted off the rails. Laptop etc not taken in the same room. Please gimme a shout if you see the following around/listed for cheap in other classifieds: 1) 2009 Ventana El Saltamontes w XT componentry and XTR wheelset (yep, bought it off a hubber here recently - was loving it, now this. Can't be many around I reckon.) 2) 2010 Merida Matts 40 w Mavic Crossmax wheelset. :(
  17. http://www.trueprecisioncomponents.com/tpc-products/mtb-rear-hub/ I recently too contemplated the merits of a quiet rear hub - hearing only the sound of my tires on the trail - and came across this purpose made hub. The price however quickly made me forget about it again..
