I know this isn't helpful but I've got 1030km on mine so far. My XT chain lasted 3195km before breaking and I replaced it with the 105 as it was R100 cheaper. But so far so good.

Last year I rode 2:40 in C, so B or C should work.

Don't think it's Silverback, I dropped my Storm 1 off at my LBS on Monday this week and the new frame had been delivered Thursday morning. Then again, who knows the reason...

I have the Bose IE2's and absolutely love them! http://i.testfreaks.com/images/products/600x400/148/bose-ie2.23974036.jpg This applies to district roads on the mtb; you not at much risk with them and I only use them as a distraction when doing intervals, 300W for 30min can get a bit painful.

On the condition that you have good reflex's can you put a Crossmark on the front... My bike came standard with them and after a few near incidents I changed the front to a Schwable Rocket Ron but still kept the rear. PS, still testing what tires work best for me.

I'd go as far as to say that my bike skills are pretty good since I try and practice once a week but not in comparison to the likes of Greg Minnaar. Anyway, they came in handy this week while out on the road bike when a car in traffic decided to do a u-turn in front of me without checking their blind spot. Needless to say, I had to hop the curb into a garden at 30km/h to avoid the car and still negotiate some trees. Made me realize why I prefer the mtb.

I picked the bike up yesterday and after some negotiations I only paid R250 for the bike rebuild. This new frame must be hell faster than the old one since I averaged 28km/h over 121km with 1,200m ascent on it's maiden voyage today. Yeah, had it since June and extremely happy with my purchase. Although the Frame did crack 2 weeks ago but I took it in on Monday and picked it up again the Friday (yesterday) with a new frame (3 days to deliver the new one). Tip? Don't you dare sign up to Strava! That doomed my training regime... Not a ride that goes by that I'm not tempted to better my PR or go for the KOM.

I understand, been supporting this LBS for years now and I bought the bike there. But surely R500 is a bit steep or am I wrong?

Can't say that applies here since I had to take it back to where I purchased the bike.

They estimated R500, but surely they should be claiming this from Silverback since it's a warrantee replacement?
