  1. Hi guys, I'm tested allergic for yeast, wheat and sugar and am currently on a diet to get this out of my system. my problem is that I'm going to do Die Burger, while I'm still on this !@^&$$# candida diet. Any suggestions what I could eat to survive these 98 km? Sofar my longest ride is 60 km, then I fueled up again with brown rice and avo, but that was afterwards. Thanks.
  2. Have signed up, but am still a beginner, so might join you Rookie! Need to get my ass in gear too, have done no long rides sofar, only up at Chappies a few times a week, so want to go to Tokai this weekend to get some offroad km's in.
  3. I joined when I entered the Argus, I assume that they got a lot of new members, so will wait for my welcome pack.
  4. Ever since I came to South Africa, I've seen positive and negative things, but in general, have done more business here than I could have done in The Netherlands. Staying alive here is less tricky than Amsterdam, where I come from...
  5. Normally I greet, especially Chappies is like a clubhouse on an early morning ride. Doesn't matter to me if they are roadies, runners or the workers.
  6. euh, are we going to have a discussion about shaving your legs or not?
  7. wait, was that not just the guy with the 18k bike who raced past me, causing me to be pushed out of the way...? Or is that wishful thinking?
  8. The cop involved is now fired, he just graduated is 22 and lost his badge. What is the true story, since the cyclist is not talking to the media ... http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2008/07/30/2008-07-30_cyclist_decked_by_cop_back_to_work_with_.html
  9. don't worry, it is actually very funny the way the discussions sometimes go... Already upgraded to cleats and shoes, will think of either changing the front shock or the tyres as soon as I got some extra cash to spent. Agree it is wisdom to keep the bike longer and focus on skills and fitness first. There are still some parts on the singletrack in Tokai where I walk.
  10. Hey, welcome to the Alpine riders! I have one now for almost 8 months and done approx 1,000 km's on it, mostly offroad in Tokai. (yes, I am that red in the face woman puffing uphill...) Had a bit of trouble with the setting of the gears in the beginning, but that was after a few months sorted. It is a bit heavy, but feels very solid and I'm getting excellent speed downhill, although that might have something to do with my own gravity pull. So far it managed to survive my crashes more or less in tact and I haven't had major repairs on it. Just changed the chain and after hitting a rock I had to change my largest cogwheel. Good luck with it! Taneesha2008-08-01 05:30:47
  11. Does this happen to be a new race on the calendar? Am surprised that they actually counted on so many entries. Perhaps more people come if you get a free entry to the wine festival
  12. apparently it does go a bit on first come- first serve base, but it depends what distance you've entered. I'm doing the 30km and start in group A. Now that's a challenge; trying to go past the slow riders off the 42 km while being passed by the fast riders of the 30km...
  13. Reminds me of my days in Amsterdam; as a cyclist I ruled the road
  14. No, there is nothing wrong with it, the problems I had are solved and I like the bike. It is a bit heavy, but so am I. Train harder sounds like good advice. Have no intention to win a race, but just enjoy it. Especially with Summer coming, I look forward to my daily early morning Chappies ride. Have done approx 1000 km's sofar, majority offroad. 15. Last year October I bought a Silverback Alpine mtb. This is a typical beginners bike and in all the races I do, you see them often. Now I was at my bikeshop picking it up from a service since I'm doing the 30km race in Stellenbosch this Saturday and they advised me that considering the amount of riding I do, I will outgrow my bike soon. As well that when I upgrade, rather not invest in components, like better shocks/ wheels, but go for a better bike in total. What is wisdom? I always thought that the Silverback has quite good components thought to go for a lighter frame first, before upgrading parts... what price range should I look at if I do decide to upgrade; is that untill approx 10,000?
