  1. Also at the school series... in competition is still not ideal, but hey, it's a whole heap better than nothing, and the surprise element of both these events is what might reap rewards
  2. I can totally run a couple hundred meters at that pace... insane stuff. I would say sub 2 is not likely, but taking over a minute off the record says something already. And he also ran negative splits. This guy is just not from our planet and it would be foolish to write anything off. And how cool that he such a nice quiet humble guy... in the land of Serena's and Ronaldo's what an absolute treat that is
  3. Also got the sms... can't see how it can be the website spec. RRP is nearly 3 times that if you convert...
  4. Yip, was just looking at his splits... totally insane.
  5. Yip, most likely... strange they never fixed it.
  6. Could just about give you the same answer

  8. So you think we don't know who he was supplying yet? I see Hawks are involved... does that mean bank accounts can get looked into etc? Must be some twitchy bums in the cycling fraternity at the moment
  9. Eish Tjommies... sorry about your run, your prep seemed so on point. Hopefully just a bad day at the office, we've all had them and you learn a little from each one.
  10. Only supplying two cyclists? Doesn't seem like a very worthwhile endeavor... unless this is just the beginning He's been around for a very long time and ridden with many a top rider... Even Brandon Stewart
  11. Haha... ya, it's definitely a little sadistic
  12. Had a nice run at Adrienne Hirsch, tough little route and wanted to just take it easy, ran the first 6km with my wife, but then left her as she wasn't feeling great and had decided she'd just do the 10km. Missioned off after some club mates (which was ill advised on a tough course) but caught them around 13km and then just ran to the finish together. Ran 2:08 which was okay considering the course and my relatively chilled race plan. The route could do with some finessing in my books, they just seem to whack you straight up and down every climb around - no nice long gentle gradients or much flat at all... but enjoyed it anyway and it's certainly good hill training I guess. Dusting off the Mtb for a little Crater Cruise 40km this weekend and then Rockies to finish the Vitality series the weekend after.
  13. Well done on your race Shaper, I know it's not what you had hoped for, but considering the conditions you faced and the unknown of your calf injury it's pretty darn impressive.
  14. Shaper, good luck for World Champs... hope the calf is behaving itself! What's everyone up to this weekend? I'm gonna be slogging my way around the Adrienne Hirsch 21km tomorrow, going to run with the missus and take it easy - should be good training. Loving these warmer days, can smell Summer already
  15. Seems Old Mutual is pulling most of it's sporting sponsorships... Comrades, joBerg2c, Om die Dam, Wild Series and Two Oceans (after next years edition) Still huge value in most of these events - will be interesting to see who steps up - hopefully they all find good sponsors, wouldn't want to lose any of these events
  16. I've been telling you okes... rest is everything. I do though take it a little too far, most of the time.
  17. I think that's the crux here, big difference between people who are natural/talented or focused runners who wan't to test their limits... and the many other people who just love the event and want to be apart of a special day. I fall into the latter, I'm not built for running (skinny me is still well over 80kgs), I've got zero family running history, it was just something I as a South African always admired and in 2013 decided to give a crack after I'd followed a few of my friends Comrades journeys. My training regime (or lack thereof) is frowned apon, and I can live with that, but it gets me what I want, and funnily enough, as much as I treasure my little medal and that special journey between Durbs and PMB in June, it's the build up, the friendships, sharing this journey with my wife, my clubmates, even the little chats on the hub, the Strava chirps, the little personal battles we all fight that make it now an intricate part of my yearly life. I do have aspirations of a Bill Rowan one day (that's in theory doable for me), training hours should become more readily available down the road as my little girls grow up, but I'm quite content for now to keep enjoying this little adventure and making the most of life inside and outside of the Comrades journey.
  18. There's nothing linear about qualifying times versus Comrades runs, or amounts of training versus times. We also all live very different lives and have different goals, motivations, available training time etc etc There is nothing wrong with just aiming to finish Comrades. As a friend of mines physio pointed out to him, even if you feel like you're not hitting your straps with your training and reaching your potential, the simple fact you are a Comrades runner puts you among the top 0.5% fittest people in the world. The current systems works pretty darn well I reckon, I've got a friend who scrapes qualifying but finishes under 11, I've got mates who go under 4hours in qualifying but scrape a finish at Comrades. Much of the beauty of the race lies at the back, the people defying odds, going deep, discovering things about themselves they never knew, and pushing themselves to do something they never dreamed possible. I agree that the race can't really expand it's capacity much, but I also don't get this idea that lesser mortals should pushed aside... For me, it's the Ultimate human race, because everybody can achieve it, just very few have the courage to do so.
  19. It would... more than half the field finish in that last hour
  20. Fair enough They want your license money boet! Just smile and wave
  21. My Bio talks about our glutes as almost being shock absorbers, so the stronger they are, the less stress translated down the leg on each impact. Kind of makes sense, although I am sure it's a helluva lot more complicated than that...
