  1. Only saw this post now. Purchased at Solomons Woodmead R599. They specially arranged for me and I purchased 2 of the 4 they got in. I think the other 2 have been sold. Maybe call them and speak to Irfaan. He did a brilliant job to arrange these for me.
  2. Just picked these up today. Maxis Ardent Race 29x2.35. It's going to replace the 2.2 Ikon I am running up front. Needed a more aggressive tyre up front for the loose over hard and small marble terrain on the trails I ride. So new combo will be ardent race 2.35 front and ikon 2.2 rear.
  3. Max Knox's time is up on Strava now. 2:26:14.
  4. I think the first 500m through the resort/caravan Park is smooth...that's about it...
  5. I think they call it "marginal gains"????
  6. First ride with the AB 34 oval today. From the first pedal it just felt right. Smoother pedal stroke. Felt like the whole pedal revolution you are pushing the gear forward (hope that sounds right). On loose uphill struggle under power it also felt smoother allowing better traction. No issues with chain tension. The 2.3 Specialized Ground Control up front makes a huge difference upfront soaking up trail chatter.
  7. I been following a thread on the mtbr single speed forum. See link below.( hope the link works- pasting on iPad). The Absolute Black developer is present there. No issues with running on single speed. http://forums.mtbr.com/singlespeed/oval-rings-unfair-advantage-singlespeed-932469.html
  8. Right my new build. Momsen STR -29 Large frame (silver/black) Edge Design rigid 29er fork Rapide wheel set Rapide 720mm bar/70mm stem Rapide seat post Bontrager carbon saddle Raceface NW 34 (to be replaced with an Absolute Black 34 Oval this week) Momsen Design grips Elixir R brakes Shimano SPD pedals Bontrager 29-2 Expert 2.2 tyre front (to be replaced with a Specialized Ground Control 2.3 soon) Specialized Ground Control Grid 2.1 tyre rear Weight on bathroom scale 10kg Built by Wayne from Rapide. First ride impression: did a 2hour ride at Modders yesterday. Man the rigid is awesome. Super stiff and pointing the bike where you wanting to go is so easy. Light and fast. Takes some getting used to not having the front compress when cornering. I need to practice more thought the rocky bits.front is very light so picking up the front wheel and placing it was fun. Current conditioning will need to improve as I felt knackered last night from the harshness of the ride. Great fun.
  9. GREAT SERVICE GUYS.... Ordered an AB oval chainring and some Momsen silicone grips yesterday at 13:40. Delivered to my work in JHB today at 13:48. Super efficient service and a pleasure to do online shopping with Evobikes.
  10. Is that with a 34 or 32 chainring? I am riding a 32/18 so interested to see if I need to change.
  11. Thanks. I was wondering about that. The tensioner can go forward about 1cm. So will have to be 2 links.
  12. Not a "purist" single speed but at least a start: Momsen AL129 frame Rapide 32/18 with tensioner Old parts from my 29HT I had. Setup/fit in progress. Going to be an interesting December. Letting the 29er FS rest a bit.
  13. I explained the requirements of self defense and related it to the scenario, thus justifying the use of deadly force, only to have a post refering to limited knowledge of the law posted later. We have many armchair lawyers here.
  14. My first post here was in response to a post which commented that "even if he was armed he could have done nothing". I merely suggested that I did not agree with that and went about explaining what I would have done in the situation. The fact that other people then changed the topic to carrying while riding and using a firearm to defend oneself was not my doing. I was merely stating what I would have down. Obviously not all will agree or approve and that is their stance on it. In no way am I encouraging a person to carry a fiream when riding. It is what i have to do due to circumstances on where I ride and when i ride. I do not carry all the time. When riding Northerns, Van Gaalens etc I do not carry. These are low risk areas. I actually prefer not to carry when riding but when i have to train on the Spruit at 5am or 6pm I carry due to the risk. I added my skills training bit to show and justify to others that I am not just another gun owner with a gungho f3cking Rambo attitude. I can handle a weapon. That definitely makes a difference when dealing with a situation. I have absolutely no issue with what Malcolm did. I am glad he was not hurt during the incident. The footage is a brilliant way of letting others know how these robberies go down. I am sure that by seeing that footage everyone here will have a heightened sense of awareness when riding whether alone or in groups. The best thing Malcolm did was post this so we can see and learn from it. We cannot live in a bubble and hope we won't be a victim of crime. we need to be aware of our surroundings and have a game plan when it goes down. What you do is up to you and only you will know what to do when the situation arises. So i disagree that my posts will now have someone thinking they can go and deal with this by reading this.
  15. What would you do????? It is a reality. It happened up here 2 years ago. Wake up to what is going on in this country. Life gets taken away on an impulse.
  16. There are many here who are quick to judge, without knowing what the posters background is. But hey this is the HUB and anything goes. One does not post a CV upfront when posting. I just sigh when people see the self defence requirements as a grey area. It is actually cut and dried. In this instance use of deadly force would be justified on the armed attacker. I bet someone will differ, and that is why they don't carry. Enjoy the shoot. The AK47 is a remarkable weapon and shoots pretty nicely. Just remenber one day on the range firing a few rounds don't make you competent to deal with a situation. and remember firearms and alchohol do not go well together.
  17. You beat me to post this. Malcolm did the right thing at the time. Nobody will say differently. We all have our own opinions and nothing is goinfg to change that. Many here are quick to add things to the scenario like guys hiding in the bushes behind you etc. Let's take this scenario, and forget about Malcolm, and let's escalate the level of violence and add the following: Rider riding with his girlfriend or wife. Robbery takes place and the perps decide to sexually molest or rape her. Now this actually did happen to the brother and sister in kempton park 2 years ago, so this is a reality and has happened. What would your comments be now on this situation? There may come a time in your life where you will be faced with escalated violence and you may have to fight for your life. My whole puprose of posting was to make you all aware that you can control the outcome of a violent attack. yes you will get away with not been harmed most of the time. but that 1 time... Bulletproof vest on. Fire away...
  18. My sentiments exactly. I am glad there are those like us out there. Ride safe out there.
  19. I am going to go practice with my paper and steel now. You guys have made me "worried" about my abilities. LOL.
  20. I have had the privilege of training with the Seals and working alongside them in Africa. I will leave it at that.
  21. I hope so. He really f$cked up there. At this stage his defense is trying to keep the jail time to a minimum. I worked with Gerrie Nel for a long time so yeah jail time it is gonna be.
  22. Where are you coming from? Firstly you do not know my background regarding law. Secondly I am not a member of SAPS. Might merely commented on someone posting a reply on this thread that even if the rider had a gun he would not have been able to do anything. I disagreed and explained why. What the rider did was the only thing he could have done. And I am glad he was not hurt in anyway. We all have our own opinions on what to do and what not to do. No one is right or wrong.
  23. 2 different types of armed robber. P
