  1. I looked at the carbon version aswell, but can it really weigh 13.52kgs for the 19inch?? :cursing: :cursing:  The weight is a BIG putoff!!! anyone prove me wrong please as this bike is defnetly an option! Weight from Tread MAG JULY/AUGUST pg 58
  2. So I got my bike sold, WHOOP WHOOP!!! and went to go gert my new bike the weekend...but to no avail :-( They did however show me the new titan 29er PRO and MY EFFEN WORD! the bike is beautifull! only problem is they'll only be arriving mid to end september.. Some of the specs: Full XT Reba fork ZTR Arch wheels I hope it is this way cos my name is right ata top of the wanted list!! If its not what I expect it to be I'll go with the giant! :-)
  3. I know the XTC is a much better frame ja, thats what drew me to it. BUT I can always get another frame later on and spec it with the full XT from the titan.. The giant is specced as follows tho SHIFTERS: SRAM X7, 3x10 Speed FRONT DERAILLEUR: SRAM X7 REAR DERAILLEUR: SRAM X9 BRAKES: Avid Elixir 5, [F] 180mm [R] 160mm BRAKE LEVERS: Avid Elixir 5 CASSETTE: SRAM PG1030 11x36, 10Speed CHAIN: SRAM PC1031 CRANKSET: SRAM S1000 22/33/44 BOTTOM BRACKET SRAM GXP Press Fit If i go giant I'll do a brake upgrade ASAP cos the peoples say its a kaka system to do maintanance on and they make a noise????
  4. HAHAHAHA There is no vrou to give the bike to! I've got some possible buyers coming to view the bike this weekend..................and if all goes well, I'll be on my new machine next week :-) :-) :-) Just got a JAGS deal on the XTC from my LBS R13000...shhhh don't tell anyone!!!To krap my kop even more the lbs has just thrown a spanner in the works by giving me the titan 29er PRO alloy(Same fork but with full XT including hubs) for the same price(I think the frame is *** though)...Super tempted as i can always get a carbon frame in a few months time ;-) Any thoughts on the titan? Fingers crossed I get my silverback sold
  5. I've got this..Take a look https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/32091-bargain2012-silverback-spectra2bargain/
  6. So I popped in @ my LBS yestday looking to do the deal on the giant xtc1.....................................he then advised me to try a longer high rise stem to check the difference..Haven't tried it yet as I feel I've already made up my mind with going for the xtc1..will be trying it out later today tho...you never know Another LBS said I should look at the scott 940..Its about R2500 more than my budget but they say the Fox fork thats specced on the 940 with its intermediate remote lockout is about double the price of the reba specced on the giant/scott/momsen I've been looking at so maybe the scott 940 is worth the extra bucks.. I never knew that trying to sell a 26" MTB specced with some good **** would be so hard to sell ma nou ja GIANT XTC 1 it is............or so I THINK
  7. @Cavendish: Whered you get an AL729 for R15.5K?????????????????? That is KAAAAAaaaaaAAAAK cheap!
  8. So I've popped into my LBS and came across a large(19inch) Giant XTC 26er frame for ONLEEEE R2499. was thinking of getting this frame and then just tranfering my existing parts across. I'm struggling to sell my bike as it's only 4 months old now. The LBS advised that it would of sold easier if it was older and I'd got my money out of it. I mean to loose R3000 in 4 months to me is ridiculous UNLESS I just close my eyes and take the knock????? The only problem is that i don't know if its going to fit me better than the silverback i currently own. Giving it time till this weekend else ima go for the giant XTC 29er
  9. ALL I can say is MY NERVES IS KLAAR!HAHAHA..the geometry on the silverback I've got now doesnt suit me..the difference in height between the saddle and handle bars is too big hence the feeling of topling over the front of the bike. I've got a 70mm riser stem on and it makes a difference but stil not what I want. if I look at my setup my front end will need to lift by about 25-35mm(added to that of the riser stem) to increase the "feeling" I've got on the bike. I have sat on a fw 29er's and it does feel better suited to me, haven't ridden one yet tho...
  10. I still havent made my choice as I'm still trying to sell my 26er. and after reading https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/118626-why-do-they-still-make-26-inch-bikes-if-29ers-are-clearly-the-way-forward/ I don't know if I should just get another 26" frame or if I should just close my eyes and go 29er?????????????????????????????????
  11. I've got nothing against either of the bike sizes, all I'm looking for is a bike that'll work for me. I've got a 26er HT which I am in the process of selling as I cannot get the correct setup on the bike. ALL the LBS in CPT suggest that I go 29er due to my height, 1.8m. I really enjoy my 26er but I dont feel comfortable on the bike, I get the feeling of going to flip over the bars, feels a lot like being on a road bike, low down, agressive. Because of this I cannot really "push" myself/bike on trails. Should I look at getting a different 26er frame as my current bike(3 months old) is leka specced, XT/SLX with Recon front end. I've tried different stems/seat posts but nothing helps. My inner leg measurement in 90cm and my bike now is a Large(19"). Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!
  12. I had a look at the new Scott 940, the thing i liked about it is the remote lockout which has 3 settings so its not just your plain on/off control. What is you guys take on the back up services from the manufactures? shops that I've spoken have pushed me the way of the more reputable "GLOBAL" brands while a few others have said that Momsen have got good back-up service. I'm looking at the overall package as i feel that upgrades e.g. wheels etc. come with the territory, as my fitness/racing increases so im not too worried about that now
  13. @Berg Bok having 1 of those silverbacks would be cool, only problem, just above my budget. another question is 10.6kg not a bit much for a carbon setup? I guess the weight is not a determining factor on that machine Is there any other bikes you guys can suggest me get? similar priced/specced to what I'm looking for?
  14. Thanks for all the replies! Momsen AL529 R13 995 Scott scale elite R14 000(R13 500 in Worcester) Giant xtc 29er 1 R15 500(R14 300 in Worcester) I get the point of upgrading the wheels at later stage! I can get the momsen specced with sun ringle dirty flea hubs for R15 000. I really dont know what to do.. need to make my decision soon tho as I've been off the bike for 2 weeks already!hahahahahaha
  15. Hi guys, URGENT advice needed! I'm in the market for a new bike..I've been looking at the above, they're all about R1000 of each other theres just small things that set them apart. They've all similarly specced and have the Rock shox Reba Giant: Tapered headtube with 15mm thru axle Scott: DT swiss rims remote lockout Momsen: Crest rims, SLX hubs, tapered headtube Do i go with the Momsen cos its good value for money? does the thru axle make that big a difference? I weigh 72KG. I'm looking for an overall good package as i wont be buying another bike for atleast another year or so. ALL Input will be appreciated! Thanks
