  1. So whenever we reach 40km/hr we should break or stop cycling altogether ? that pretty much rules everything out except maybe staring at one's bike in the spare room........... The implication of my quote was that riding behind a truck at 40 kms per hour can.................................................! .......................Ag, what the hell,..........yah, drafting trucks at 40kph is cool, I suggest you go out and participate, bound to excite you.! porky2009-06-22 14:53:34
  2. So you have no wife?, kids?, brothers?,parents?sisters? loved ones? If you dont, hey feel free, flatten yourself, no one will shed a tear, one less life - who cares.! ............but if you do....................dont you think you have a responsibility to come home to them?
  3. Well, my wife just called me to say she is rushing her PA through to the Springs hospital. The hospital just called to say her husband was involved in a motorcycle accident (he drives to work on one of those little Vespa's) - seems he drove slap bang into the back of a bakkie in the town centre, the driver of the bakkie who went to the hospital as well also spoke to her and said he flew 3/4 of the height of a telephone pole into the air before landing on the tar - he said he and the motorbike was probably going no faster than - guess what - 40kms per hour -. The Hospital has said they are operating immediately to remove his spleen, he lost 4 litres of blood and they are concerned about other organs which look crushed - they told her they cant wait for her, if they dont operate NOW, he will have less than 30 minutes to live. So Yah, go ahead, draft trucks, just make sure you are single, have no loved ones to leave broken hearted and you have a good insurance policy. He is not only a fool, he has no respect for his wife and family either.!
  4. First time I've ever heard that saying' date=' and I'm an old bold cyclist, as are most of my friends. Are you sure it's not a saying applicable to motorcyclists? Body of an adult, brain of a toddler = second childhood... [/quote'] Well, I guess its a generic, just replace "cyclist" with motorcyclist, motorist, scuba diver, arial acrobat, ...........!!" ...........you aint that old, now me on the other hand..................!! - but I have always been far to scared to do that.
  5. It brings to mind the saying............... You get "old cyclists" and you get "bold cyclists" but you get NO "old bold" cyclists.! Actually I think it also breaks a few rules of the road,.... following distance, ride on the left etc.! Body of an adult, brain of a toddler in my opinion.! porky2009-06-21 23:59:56
  6. You got 6 vaporizers? We obviously dont do the same events, I have never got one.! Have had a few socks though.....................but usually too big or too small, so pretty useless.!
  7. I think he has been in the sun too long without a hat..........fried his brain.!
  8. The route has changed....it heads out to Plett now. The route has changed again this year, instead of doing the Wittedrift hill, you will just continue on the highway until the Crags and then do a u turn and head on back to knysna into the wind. Oh, Okay, that small road coming into Knysna was a no/no, very dangerous. I can remember literally riding "serpentine" like weaving between the cars all backed up on the road.!
  9. Edman, your post just re-enforces the point. I fail to understand where you see any discrepancy.
  10. Thanks Ill make sure Im insured for proper amount now Get a few valuations on your particular bike (plus accessories if you want them insured as well) from a few cycle shops every year and check your insured value. Submit these valuations to your insurer and ask them to insure to the HIGHEST stated value. Insurers will usually apply a "rate of inflation" increase to your policy annually (ie) your bike is insured for 10k, the inflation rate is 10% so they will automatically increase value to 11k annually, and your monthly permium will also increase, unfortunately imported items tend to move up much faster than the std rate of inflation so your bike cost 10k two years ago but the rands devaluation has pushed up the REPLACEMENT value to 18k this year, well above the rate of inflation increase applied by the insurer.
  11. You are learning my friend. Count on NUMBER 2
  12. . Well then i must be in luck.....my bike's replacement value is easily 50k' date=' and all both my previous claims they have paid out the full amount of the crash damage, less the excess.....Never was i told that i am under insured and will therefore pay out only x amount[/quote'] The crash damage was probably less than the insured value, and fell within the guidelines, hense its not an issue - the penalty clause applies mostly to complete loss (ie) theft or write off due to damage, or the insurers bill is HIGHER than your insured value.
  13. Yes, it is quite correct - Insurers mostly all apply the pro rata penalty valuation - in otherwords they will only pay a pro -rata value for the bike - if its value is 20k and you are insured for 10k, they will pay 5k - the pro rata penalty value. Of course, before someone says "but I"......................?? there can occassionally be exceptions, but they will be dealt with on a one on one basis, general rule is "the pro-rata penalty valuation" - make sure you are insuring for the full value to avoid heart ache later.
  14. 1)Well, it varies from insurance to insurance, you need to look at the exclusion clauses, some might cover you for (eg) metal fatigue, others wont. Generally, its up to you to ensure your goods are fully insured for the full present replacement value, in other words, if you insure your bike for 30 K but replacement is 60k and it gets stolen, the insurance company will say you "underinsured" (your monthly installment was too low) and will pay out a pro rata value of the 30k - not the full 30k as many assume. Less the excess of course. Saying your bike is stolen (and its not) is fraud, there will be checks like you will have to report it stolen to the police and sign an insurance affidavit etc. They will also want to see forcible entry / loss, (ie) your house will have to have broken locks, your car a damaged boot lid / door / window etc, most times an insurance company will NOT pay if you claim theft but can not prove forcible entry - they will claim you were NEGLIGENT (left the bike outside overnight and unlocked for eg) and that is always an exclusion. They may also cease any further cover and notify other insurers of your suspected fraudelant activities making it difficult to get further cover. ...........No, best dont go down that path, it only leads one way.! Just remember, ALL insurance policies will require YOU take ALL reasonable care to prevent loss or damage - you cant just treat your goods with disdain simply because they are insured, some insurance companies now require you even prove servicable items ARE serviced regularly before they will pay a claim (ie) if an automatic garage door falls down on your car - the insurer may request to see that the door was serviced on an annual basis by a recognised repair person, if it wasnt, they CAN claim you were negligent in your responsibilities and they are not liable for your negligence.
  15. Surely the content should be what sells the magazine' date=' not the gift inside the bag. Do you honestly need/want branded, bullet-shaped valve caps? Most people I know remove valve caps of any kind at the first opportunity they get... [/quote'] I think free gifts work, I cant speak for the cycling industry, but, one of my customers approached a trade engineering magazine and asked if they could include a keyring with their name and business details on it as a free gift, there was an additional cost but he also got a bit of a free article on his company in the mag, which was nice. Anyway, told me he recieved a lot of leads from his free gift and still gets calls now a few months later - so he was very happy with the excercise. ........and this is a very focused trade magazine, its not freely available so I dont think the distribution is very high. Customers do like freebies, theres no doubt about it.
  16. Porky I had my Dale sprayed 2008 Liquigas colours. Came out quite nice too Yah, agreed. ...........but, for me, I still prefer the Cannondale / Saeco colours of old - and they were factory standard.!
  17. Sorry, it dosnt work like that. Unless you want to pay a monthly instalment equivalent to the value of your bike. There are ALWAYS exclusions, even in an all risks policy. Insurers will juggle risk with monthly installment, the higher the risk, the higher the installment - there will NEVER, EVER be full cover no matter what. Insurance is a very emotional issue, people want to pay as little as possible monthly, but want maximum cover - that can never happen - so you pick a cover you can afford to pay and accept the exclusions - here, it seems "metal fatigue" was one of them, tough I agree, but hey, read the policy wording before signing on the dotted line.
