  1. This is the one runs from End Street' date=' downtown JHB south, past the Market and City deep. Understand the accident happened closer to Steeldale. [/quote'] Hmmm, very busy road and a duel carriage way if I am not mistaken?. The container depot is also just off the road, so there are PLENTY of massive container trucks there as well, sad, but honestly, riding there is like playing "russian roulette," the only differance is you are using an 8kg bicycle and a 50 ton container truck as opposed to a .357 magnum. You may get away with it once or twice, but the inevitability remains.! porky2009-09-17 03:56:37
  2. . Or you can just copy the template from Action Photo' date=' Copy the logo and print your own certificate. My Comrades certificate is homemade and includes photos. It forms the background for the frame holding the embroidered badge and medal.[/quote'] I like that idea Linnega. I may do the same. I also only bother to display medals which were a challenge for me, so far thats my Comrades, Two Oceans and my two or three international marathon medals, and I am very proud of them, as they signify to me, the massive sacrifice it took to prepare for these events. Personally I can also do without the cycling or even the 10km / 21 km running medals, I have hundreds and I dont really see these events as a big challenge, but I can understand, to others cycling 100kms could be a life goal and a huge achievement, who are we to suggest they shouldnt get a medal.?
  3. Phoeew, also didnt know, been out on site all day baking in the sun. Quite a character he was, his was the only cooking show I could sit through and enjoy, I loved the one where he told an old French mama he would make her an Omelete, which he duly presented to her. She sort of ate a small piece with long teeth and said she was going to make him one, which she did, he took a bite of hers, got up, and pulling a disgusted face, shoveled his omelete into the garbage. You dont see that kind of honesty with this crop of idiot celebrity chefs now do you.? I'll miss him.
  4. Could be an interesting bet.! I am on the negative side, I dont think they will be there, but I am not putting money on it.!
  5. Yes, this is true. Many of us (me included) often take so much for granted, This morning on my way to my 8.00am Mass with my wife and daughter, I just thought how wonderfully lucky I am, a healthy family, food on the table, a warm comfortable bed, a roof over our heads, hot water in the shower, the ability and means to take vacations, enjoy evenings out at restaurants etc. So many dont even have a fraction of what I do, and it humbles me.!
  6. Yah, as I also said in my original post. Coronary artery disease is a chronic condition, but I can only assume because the medicine is reasonably expensive (R730.00 per 30 day treatment) they didnt want to pay. They told me "its not a chronic medicine on "THEIR" list.!! My suggestion was they revise their list. Obviously that was not well recieved, but when I screamed and shouted and threatened, they approved it with a limit. So why did I have to perform is my question, why did they not just take the matter up on the first occassion and approve it with the limit. I can only assume its because they didnt want to pay up, they hoped I would go away and they would have been R730.00 per month better off. That, in my mind is criminal. Fedhealth, when I enquired, approved the medication immediately under chronic with NO LIMIT - So end of the year I am putting him on Fedhealth, saves me going on Blood pressure tablets from shouting at Discovery.! porky2009-09-11 00:04:16
  7. Yah, sometimes I wonder why in SA we always have to shout and scream and threaten to get things done.? My father in law has arterial problems with limited blood flow to his legs and has to take chronic medication, Discovery refused the chronic application saying the medication was not on their list of applicable arterial disease medications.!! I couldnt believe it, the medication was prescribed by a Professor and a cardiologist, how much more do they want. I phoned the call centre three times to get an explanation, just got the same answer each time "its not on our list", the fourth time I hit the roof, I shouted and screamed and threatened and demanded to speak to the head doctor, at first they didnt want to allow it, but after hearing how furious I was they put me through, explained the isse and he said he will look at it. Two days later it was approved albeit with a limit, never got an apology a sorry, nothing. Next year I am moving him to Fedhealth, my entire company are on the scheme and when I spoke to them, they already approved the medication for chronic.
  8. For the CSA to succeed in the long term, they need to run like a business and have something to sell, a service, a product something tangible. As a business they need to start looking at funding themselves, with sponsorships, donations, pledges etc, they cannot just continue to solicit money from the everyday recreational cyclist which gets ferreted away to be used on activities THEY see fit and theres absolutely no value for the payee. Sooner or later people will wise up, presently I dont think the majority of people know what the CSA dos, they think the CSA runs races, organises events, looks after our rights etc, and so, in the short term, they pay. But this can never be long term, people will soon start to ask questions and if there are no answers, they will stop paying, its simple and its clear, nobody, but nobody, pays for something year in and year out and recieves no value.
  9. No need, Mr Latrinus Emmer the COO of CSA frequents this board, he could comment, if he feels like it.
  10. I hear you. But thats skirting the issue, as we still dont know "what" if anything we get for the fee.?
  11. You can charge interest at the max rate, BUT, unless you are a bank, he is not obliged to pay it.! To force him to pay the interest you would have to go to court, you may win, (there are a lot of legal clauses you need on your invoice first) but its a lot of extra costs. Many customers know the law better than the suppliers, and he probably knows you can not enforce interest payment without going to court for a legal ruling, so he will chance it for as long as possible. Theres no harm in putting it on your invoice, because if it dos go to court sometime, you can claim the interest, but if he just pays the due amount and no legal proceeding is in place, (ie) you are not yet sueing him) he is not obliged to pay the interest you have added and you will in all likelyhood just end up writing it back.! porky2009-09-07 07:44:22
  12. Its all about greed and ego, nothing more nothing less.! Cant wait to see Michael Moores new movie "Capitalism the new evil" I think it makes its preview this week.
  13. I also had issues, told me I had password protection, so I requested the password sent to me cos I couldnt remember using one. Then it said "you have no password enter as normal under search", went back and entered under "search" and it told me I have "password protection". Went round and round like this two or three times and gave up!!. Tried a few days later and it all went smoothly, until the end, when it just kicked me out without confirming my entry. Only confirmation I got was my approved C/CARD transaction reciept, nothing from the organisers. porky2009-09-02 14:14:18
  14. Just enter and start where ever they place you. Give it your best and cycle through the hordes. Next year' date=' you will reap the fruit of your effort. [/quote'] Yah, I agree. The first four or five times I rode, I raced around with my head down like a mad man. Did'nt even enjoy it.! Last two years I chugged along with my wife, stopped at all the necessary points for bananas, Bar ones, topped up my water bottle, chatted to the folk on the road side, last year I even stopped for a hot dog. Gonna do the same again this year, seeding means squat to me, maybe I will get a beer with the hot dog this year??
  15. HaHaHa, I read all 4 pages on the car forum and had a good chuckle at some of the comments. At least they have a sense of humour, cant understand what everyone here is getting worked up about.
  16. I dont think it will worry him too much, wouldnt even worry the local crack user paying in Rands.
  17. I think its quite neat, I am sure there will be a market for it, especially in the USA where people have a more open mind to new ideas. Here its more about looking "cool" than accepting there could be any kind of benefit.!
  18. Wow, okay, its a very, very busy road (Swartkoppies) - I just finished a contract in Meyersdal so I traveled that road daily for about 4 months - I am surprised.!
  19. Re-reading the post by Wendall, I get the feeling these are "off road" meaning the people were mountainbiking not riding on the road. .........But I may be wrong. If not, the issue is no less severe, but it dos make a differance, the roads that run through these areas are fairly busy and I would be surprised if somebody was hi-jacked on the tar during daylight as there will undoubtably be passing cars who will see whats happening. However, the fields are obscured from view by big trees, and in many cases are "lower" than the roads so impossible for motorists to see whats happening. I think I have also seen connecting tunnels which run under the road for people to pass from one side of the highway to the other, these tunnels are completely obscured so if you are riding in one, you are at the mercy of anyone inside.
