  1. tool for the top of a Suntour fork and also doubles as a spacer to fit into your front disk brake when transporting the bike?
  2. Woodend last 5mins on Table Mountain.
  3. now that I've seent the Specialized, I'd deff say go with the Giant. Nice looking, great parts and no gimmicky stuff.
  4. I'd say no. The fork only supports the axle. The rim would buckle just as much if it was a normal fork. If the hub is warped/bent, then thats another story.
  5. if wholesalers get taken down then it will be a lose - lose situation. No one will stock that store ever again.
  6. Did the first shop buy bulk and have stock left over from 6 months ago or was the price stickers put on by some casual staff and marked wrong. It's happened many times before. Dont always think you are being ripped off.
  7. How much did you pay for rice/bread/milk, PnP Noodles last year? How much was Dstv last month? Why the increase?
  8. Well it seems that the margins aren't enough, otherwise there wouldnt be these meetings. The margins are "inflated" because everyone wants a discount. Vicious Circle?
  9. See. You naturaly assume that you will/should get a discount. Thats fine if you are a loyal supporter of your lbs, spending your hard earned money and have a relationship with that lbs. The discount is built in. Will you expect a discount from a different store, on your first/second visit? Of course. Thats why the discount is built into the price in the first place, to cover this. Everyone thinks they should get some discount. Every other post on this forum is from people not wanting to pay the price that is advertised for X, Y or Z.
  10. They sell it for R1100-00 because in this country, EVERYONE wants a discount. You got R50 off your last one. If they sell it for R899-00, your will still want a discount and then they make even less. If they charge the R1100-00 they are covering this "Discount Culture" that has been created by shops trying to undercut each other. When I was in cycle retail, most customers asked for discount before they even say "hi". People expect a discount. "how much can I have this bike/part for?" while pointing at the price tag.
  11. thats markup... OK. whats the maths equation to work out the above figures' date=' just so I know the dif between margin and markup. [/quote'] markup is cost + % margin is profit as a % of selling.. so a 50% markup = 33% margin most shops work with the margin formula and express everything in terms of margin, rather than in terms of markup Thanks.
  12. now I'm confused. When I used to work at a retail store we worked it out at nett +vat + % = retail. IDK.
  13. thats markup... OK. whats the maths equation to work out the above figures, just so I know the dif between margin and markup.
  14. Not sure how your math works but eg: R100 + vat + 50% = R171. Whereas R100 + vat + 70% = R199.50. ???
  15. I dont think any agreements were made. As soon as this info hit the net, everyone realized what these meetings were about and just walked away. I dont think there was any "special handshakes" going on in the industry.
  16. Why keep up with the Tiger Brands ref's. 711/Spar/Checkers/PicknPay didnt got to Tiger and say they weren't making enough money and they wanted the wholesale prices pushed up. Tiger thought that up themselves. This is different. I've been following this for a while and from the minutes of the meeting that was posted, it seems that CL and FP tried to strong arm the wholesalers by getting all the retailers to agree to push for a higher magin/rrp. I think most wholesalers saw this as wrong and have distanced themselves from this since the beginning. There was a few names mentioned who said they didnt agree. Sure, some wholesalers were at the meetings in question but I really dont think they knew what was going to be disscussed at these meetings and didnt leave there agreeing to anything either. Blaming wholesalers for the greed of retailers, doesnt seem right to me, IMO. CL an FP must have some serious bills to pay and I think that getting everyone else involved with their problems, is making cycling look bad. Doping and now this too.
  17. That would depend on the Riders contract with his sponsor/s.
