  1. last amarider ride had riders ensure their wrist tags registered across the start mat, made a single track bottle-neck look like the autobahn, agreed on the point of sharing timing though.
  2. just entered Engen dynamic cycle ride, CSA needs membership or day license, my PPA membership doesn't count, amarider does not use the regular timing but their own tags, so your ride doesn't reflect with the usual racetec timed rides, why can't all these associations pull in one direction?
  3. i'm actually from KZN, relocated here because the 'Shova is also rubbish, i never have change for the tollgates
  4. did that too once, gave up cold turkey, had a pack of smokes with me all the time but felt all powerful knowing i had the choice and power of mind to smoke or not with the smokes close at hand. oh well that lasted a month but i wont quit quitting.!!
  5. To spark debate on an " I wonder....? " point, i posted this topic and thank you for sharing your viewpoints, i do appreciate that our vaalie visitors pay a lot more with traveling, accommodation etc and the Capetonians thank you for boosting our tourism coffers, we hope to reciprocate in due course, if they change the 94.7 route. I do hope that PPA and the cycle tour trust has been keeping on an eye on this thread. btw i've done about 7 tours IT IS worth every penny, and for my 12 year old son and his first Argus, I know it will be a memory of a lifetime. Money can't buy that !!
  6. yep, unfortunately me subs fall due about this time of year, so every year its a whine, but admittedly with roughly about 7 rides a year it does even out. just noted that Argus is twice the price of your average burger or knysna ride.
  7. No Boyes drive !!, that is confirmed. flat ocean view ride from muizenberg to simons town
  8. didn't know that.
  9. Just booked for my son ( 1st argus ) and myself and unfortunately had to renew PPA family membership, R 1048-00 !! most of the staff n marshals are volunteers, coke sponsor as do many other headline sponsors, there is a request for R120 donation for cycling development which i don't have a problem with, so where does R10 500 000-00 go ( 35000 cyclists @ R300 )?
  10. WOW, with that budget, i'd rather borrow a bike for R5k and spend the rest on a lekker holiday after the Tuli.
  11. i think you stick to your R3k budget for now, you probably going to have plenty of thrills a few pedal knocking, tree root scraping spills. so get some technical experiance and confidence on something that wont break the bank for repairs then upgrade. Trek, Merida and Silverback have some economically sensible bikes in your price range, some also have life-time garentees on the frame. i still have my first hardtail trek, did plenty hardcore MTB rides with it, knysna, harkerville , boschendal. happy hunting
  12. thanks guys, i think i will go with the shimano 105, for now - i can always upgrade, adjust and tweak as i go along.
  13. my apologies - techno glitch...grrr

  15. i had campy on a look, the bike shops always had some odd comment or the other on the groupset, sold the wretched thing but kept the brakes not happy to go campy again, also crazy pricey.
  16. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Basket.aspx this is what my "basket" looks like - im 2 minded and not sure if the gearing etc will be correct.
  17. i have a 2008 s-works tarmac pro frame, my hill climbs suck and i need an easy ride setup, i'm building the bike, so obviously do not want to break the bank.
  18. er...thats already happened - Mast Challenge!
  19. thanks,
  20. actually shortly in Cape Town is " Hey, like Chill Bru, surf's up"
  21. could someone please explain gear ratio's, i bought a set of synergy's without a cassette, the guy at the shop asked what ratio? i'm thinkin HUH?, i have a 8 speed, with triple ring crank, rather crappy sora deraileur front and back. on a gt zr4 road bike
