  1. This is a pic from before they dug it open.
  2. Ok, I almost fell there when they have just opened it up. Last Sunday I saw someone break their carbon frame while crossing it, and this Sunday I saw someone take a tumble. Anyone else been bothered by this piece of rail? (About 2km before town)
  3. You have to try it! Mine really loves running next to the bike, especially when we are going fast (40kmh!) I alternate between taking him to the park where he can play with other dogs, and doing sprints on the bike.
  4. So I take the dog for a run this evening. Normally he runs loose next to the bike (we are on a quiet back road), but because it was dark already, I thought it would be safer to have him on a lead, running next to me. That was until a car came screaming down the road, giving the dog a good fright. Next the dog is trying to get behind the bike and stupid me is holding tightly onto the handlebar and lead. The right handlebar gets pulled back with force and I am flat on my back in the middle of the road. I think the last time I have hit my head this hard was at the Totalsports Challenge - at least then I was wearing a helmet! Two lessons learnt: even a skinny whippet can move a handle bar. Always wear a helmet, saves you a lot of headache!
  5. When I am on the road I prefer to ride alone. That way I am not tempted to chat to whomever i am riding with, resulting in riding two abreast and not paying attention to traffic etc. When I am mountainbiking I never ride alone - I come off my bike way too easy to feel safe!
  6. No one on theHub rides a Pyga?
  7. Damn, I am sorry the hub is broken, but I wish the thread about tattoos and people's reaction to it were still alive. If I recall correctly the general consensus was that people dont and should not judge according to body art. Seems that all of that was just hocus pocus, because my initial reaction was exactly like yours! So who else is guitly?
  8. I did an event in France in 2011. I took my own bike packed in a cardboard box. Must add that it was an aliminium bike with a carbon fork. Had a bunch of fragile stickers on the box. Bike traveled there and back without any damage. I flew Air France and it cost me R1000 for the extra piece of luggage.
  9. Do you plan to swim in a wetsuit? If not, being in ice cold water for longer will definitely make is a lot harder. How did you feel after your previous cold water swims?
  10. Anybody keen on doing a 200km ride on Sunday (16th) around the Hawequas catchment area? I am thinking of leaving from Allee Bleue at 05h00. Easy riding and maybe a proper meal stop along the way. Route map here: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com?r=5758629
  11. Post a pic and I may offer you 3 crates of Tafel Lager!
  12. There is a bunch leaving form BMT bike shop at 5:30 on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. At the moment we do mtb on Tuesdays and roadbike on Thursdays.
  13. No rain this time, but definitely some wind, wow it is bad out there!
  14. Wow, the first one in four months without any rain predicted!
  15. See we can expect some rain again Friday... Hopefully it will clear up by the evening as per usual!!
  16. My sister once tried to get away from an ostrich by running into a lake, not knowing that they love to swim. Was quite a funny chase to see!
  17. I replaced the 42 with a 39 some years ago, maybe time to put it back. Thanks for all the input, I will probably get the 105's on ebay to have the complete groupset.
  18. For a few dollars more... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Shimano-Super-SLR-105-BL-1055-Brake-Levers-Champagne-Color-White-Gum-Hoods-/120991000612?pt=Cycling_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c2ba02824 Maybe worth buying these, as I just noticed (through all the scratches) that my levers are suntour
  19. I had a look, the series number is BR 1055. Wont it rather depend on the type of lever? I bought the bike second hand and have no idea what parts the previous owner might have replaced.
  20. Hi, I am new to theHub and have a tech question... I have an old road bike with downtube shifters. The brake lever hoods has become soft and sticky and needs to be replaced. How easy is it to find hoods that will fit on the levers? Will any brand do or do I need to look for something specific? Brakes are old shimano 105.
  21. I will be there!
