    I recently went onto the CSA site to get an annual cycling license. As of January 2022, there is a compulsory section requiring that you select an official cycling club. If you don't belong to a cycling club you will not be eligible to get a valid CSA number. CSA will happily take your money and you'll recieve a CSA number but it needs to be validated by the cycling club you have chosen. If you don't join the club you have selected, your CSA number remains invalid and you cannot use it to enter events. You can purchase day licenses but this gets pricey if you do more than a few events a year. So CSA is insisting that all cyclists who would like to compete in any SA cycling events need to belong to an official club on their list. This raises a few concerns. No all cyclists in SA have access to a local cycling club. Many chose not to belong to an official CSA registered club but ride informally with mates. There is a virtual club you can join on the CSA site but other than donating some cash to a club you'll never use, it seems a bit pointless. Perhaps I am missing something here and someone can enlighten me regarding the rationale behind this. Alternatively, I may just start a free virtual cycling club that anyone who wants a CSA license can join 🤔

    Does anyone have a means of contacting CSA regarding processing of 2020 Race Licenses and membership registration? I have emailed the address on the website ( info@cyclingsa.com ) with no reply, and I've tried calling ( 021 9171749) with no answer. I processed my race license renewal on 3 December 2020 and it still shows "Pending" on my CSA Member page. The pending is for club approval. The club hasn't received any comms from CSA.... Anyone else in a similar situation or had some success? This is quite important with Provincial and SA Champs in the near future.

    Quick general question I'd like to know: Once someone begins racing (i.e. Elite category), which website is used to show information such as their races, penalties, rider category, and specifically any points earned? I found it a few months back and now struggling to find it again. Thanks

    Was wondering what the actual state of road cycling was in the Western Cape, compared to the past. There has been many a topic around it on the hub in the past but no actual data, so this weekend did some data mining and found some pretty interesting stuff. http://puresavage.co.za/2017/10/road-cycling-in-the-western-cape.html/ Long and short, road riding getting old, fast. Let us know what you think can be done and if there are any other issues we missed?

    Due to the fact that Cycling South Africa (CSA) is not in a position to contribute towards the travel costs of riders that have been selected to compete at at the UCI World MTB Champs in Cairns, Australia, the selected athletes are required to self-fund the trip. The Western Province Mountain Biking Commission (WPMTBC) has decided to contribute R30 000 towards the WC cyclists’ costs to attend the World Champs and are offering cycling enthusiasts the opportunity to contribute as well, and stand a chance to win a SRAM Eagle GX upgrade kit sponsored by Cape Cycle Systems.     CSA seems to have changed their membership benefit as regards automatic cover for medical expenses which was R20,000 for ANY bike riding accident. I have just renewed my membership and I noticed the Hollard insurance cover is now: RECEIVE BENEFITOF UP TO R25000 FROM HOLLARD FOR MEDICAL EXPENSES FOR AN ACCIDENT AT SANCTIONED EVENTS ONLY It is important to note the new clause of sanctioned events only. A huge reason to get ALL events that charge an entrance fee sanctioned. In the past PPA events were not sanctioned, this may have changed with the agreement reached between PPA and CSA to get the Argus sanctioned a few years ago so Cav could race. In the past any accident while riding your bike was covered. Pity about the change but it was a great benefit while it lasted.

    I've been meaning to give some praise and thanks to Cycling South Africa for a while and have finally got round to doing it. As a CA and a PPA ExCo member I always though CSA were a greedy and wasting money on travel and entertainment so never renewed my membership when it lapsed a few years ago. I elected to ride the 99er this year, which was a CSA sanctioned event, and I was presented with a choice of a day licence at R35 or an annual membership of CSA at R120 I think. I had seen a few tweets and articles on what CSA was doing for members and I thought I would support them. I chose the membership. And it was without a doubt the best financial decision I have made recently. I had a really nasty crash and shattered my shoulder. Badly. CSA has an automatic insurance policy for medical expenses up to R20,000 if you are injured, get this, riding your bicycle. Not even racing or training. Just riding. Can you believe it? Well, I phoned CSA, they put me in touch with Hollard. I filled in a form and got my orthopaedic surgeon to fill in a form. I sent the surgeon's quote with the 2 forms to Hollard. 3 days later R20,000 was deposited into my bank account to cover me for medical expenses not paid by my medical aid. I've said if you ride your bike without a rear light you are an idiot. Or if you believe guys win a Grand Tour without doping you are an idiot. Reality is, if you ride a bike and don't belong to CSA then you really ARE and idiot. R120 for a year with real benefits. Compared to PPA membership and what you get there it's a no brainer.
