  1. OK, so how does the Klipheuwel trail link with existing trails? Seems to be isolated when I check maps? Or is it accessible via the Hoogie/Dairy loop? Thanks for info guys
  2. Lekker ride! Toughie for sure....and despite a semi-flat got a good ride in. Those thorns were hectic. Anyway, just missed the 4h mark but very chuffed with that. Even more with the free beer afterwards
  3. Got an sms. 12-6pm at TV (today) and Rondebosch (tomorrow)
  4. Agreed. There is time and work to consider too. Never mind the added cost to trek to a third venue. Actually quite an inconvenience. Also what happens if someone is travelling and can't get there? This is just a cop-out by event to not have to do this admin on the day. Usually there is an emergency pickup at venue on the day - events usually don't advertise it so as to encourage the other option. Wonder if this might be case here too? Would only be fair.
  5. Well, unfortunately I must admit to being a bit disappointed in the day 2 riding experience. Again, this is about the riding experience - the guys were all super friendly, helpful and accommodating, so no complaints there. So, not looking for the hair in the soup, BUT we are in Grabouw which is a track and trail heaven of sorts. In that respect, basically doing the day 1 (3/4 distance) in reverse doesn't do the event justice. First 7km was identical, then a big climb and different track, but then back to yesterday's route. IMO a bit poor, maybe even a tad lazy? Anyway, I am sure the organisers will take the input to heart and put on a better show next year. With TruCape as title sponsors it can only go from strength to strength. Look forward to next year and the same glorious weather!!
  6. Hey its just constructive criticism. There are a lot of positives which are very much appreciated. They are trying hard for sure. But as the main thing of an event is the actual run/mtb, that needs to be as close to 99% in order. For an outfit that does the PE to Plett (thus experienced), a route clash error is unacceptable. The price of the event has no bearing on it to be frank. It is cheap and it's great....but if the route becomes unnecessarily dangerous for kids/participants then you can imagine what those parents will do next year.
  7. Reason?I found the route good....although tough to get into a rythym. Some lekka single track esp toward the finish, last section. It was new to me. BUT....some serious schoolboy errors by event management: * we clashed with the 10km kiddies and parents route....going the opposite way!! Dangerous. Unbelievable. They were riding far too technical route, which meant single track. Was on my brakes all the time in case a kid was around the next corner. They all gave way and moved to the side but can imagine they were majorly pissed off. * route markings - on bushes only. Double reds to indicate turn. Problem is, we're generally looking at the road ahead not at the bushes. Missed three turns, which were all hairpin turns. But got used to it. Not sure this is the best solution though. * Marshalls not best placed in a few spots * we passed the back of the location, and although beyond event control, there were a bunch of kids throwing stones and even a metal pipe at me. I jumped off and chased them and they dispersed, but I heard from rider further behind me they returned. Still, going passed there is in my mind usually asking for trouble. Otherwise top setup, organisation and lekka vibe. Hope they learn quickly from today's mishaps Edit for spelling
  8. Email and sms received. Seems all to be in order so far. Let's see once we get there. Looking forward to riding Grabouw area again. Like that we start around noon on Saturday. Routes look fun as per links to strava posted: Day 1 46.75km & 849m; Day 2 48.31km 1,135m
  9. Is this still happening? No updates, no route profiles etc???
  10. Interesting ride! I would prefer more technical ride for a lekker adventure to discover that area more. WIll bookmark this and think about it......
  11. Something to bear in mind is that no two riders are the same, meaning wear also depends on your riding style. This means shifting, cadence, power throughput, surface and weather all play a role. Also, we tend to ride certain gears more than others, so slippage can occur in these and not in others. Your ratios play a role too in terms of e.g. 1x12 and using a 32t or a 34t...this will dictate your gear usage on different trails. Gentle shifting and doing so timeously without getting stuck in big rings when needing to suddenly go uphill....or shifting on hard power..... Anyway....experiment and see what works best for you. Changing chains regular to keep wear in check is tricky too and not necessarily cheaper
  12. Kudos to Momsen though. Replied to a query on a forum barely 10 minutes after it was posted. Good presence and sharp. Not often that is seen. With regards do their range - they are probably best placed to answer. Perhaps they are working on it.....but it's not something that magically appears in a short period of time
  13. Yeah, was also waiting for weather updates before committing. Looking awesome, especially combined with the camping. Two days of riding in Grabouw - can't go wrong there
  14. When do entries close? Thanks
  15. on their website: https://www.joberg2c.co.za/ top right hand corner

  17. Amped to be there this year again after having to cancel due to travels last year. Ready to clap BoneCrusher!
  18. Potential first timer - BUT looking for a team! Such a pain!! Very able and capable rider - could dip under 10 hours (if required). Done many many events: stage races (incl Epic, Jhb2c etc.) and 100 milers. Trans a big bucket list item. Anybody looking/interested, please let me know. cheers Marc
  19. Again the Philly nearly broke me. Cramps set in from 50km. A little to fast a start I guess.....on a new 1x12 setup with 170 cranks. Took me virtually same time for first 50km as for last 36. Had to walk some of Koeberg. Jirrreee It's really deceiving cos I guess it suits the "roadies" stamina a bit more. I prefer the technical where I can shine more lol. And there were some technical sections Mamil(rocky, off camber, sand) so wouldn't necessarily call it non-technical. Agree with Rouxenator - too much gravel road miles. Whos keen to cut some more single track? Also, think I prefer to do Koeberg first...so route as last year. But that's just me....
  20. Well, you are right, it was a very weird and wonky day re weather conditions....so depending where you were, the wind (and rain) was a totally different strength. For example in Blouberg (usually windy city) the whole day there was only mild wind (or very little), as it seemed there was a high-sitting low pressure to the north, which offset wind and rain (remember somebody in Langebaan saying they had rain). The closer you got to Cape Point though, the wind was haywire (influenced by the wind direction) and was much stronger (gusty). Anyway, nobody was at the whole route at every hour to give us reliable stats...not sure about the wind vanes around the peninsula. Nice exercise anybody?
  21. I would say the assumption of equal wind all day is incorrect. It is fact that as the day heats up/day progresses the wind picks up in strength, most notably the gusts too. I think this factor will have the greatest impact on the "weaker/slower" riders as they will sit or be hit by the wind more often and thus lose more power/strength over time. The better riders stick together, work better together and just have the strength and skill to not be as greatly impacted by the wind. That's my theory in any case
  22. Have an open account with this event so am keen to do it. What's the lowdown milky?
  23. Guys, you can calm down to a storm lol As usual, unless not usual (e.g. 2009, 2017), the wind is a (medium) breeze and builds continuously as the day progresses. The 50km/h anticipated will "only" be around from late arvie. Make no mistake though, it will be blowing a nice headwind from start and closer to Cape Point will pick up significantly but not to such levels that it will need to be called off. Hanging my hat out there to blow away haha
  24. Tougher than the Epic?
  25. Don't think you can really compare the two events: Atta and Big5. Different beasts. Prefer the Big5 - but that's because i'm a singletrack junkie and downhill shredder. And strangely, i'm getting used to all the up, and up, and up.....just pacing is my key. Overall I think it is easier to pace yourself at Atta....Big5 gives you no rest. Oh yes, forgot to mention the goodie bag earlier. Impressive content. Well done once again to Ellane and the team. Side note: 270 entered and 206 pitched. Seems some nerves got the better of quite a few! But only 16 DNF'd....that's pretty good going methinks.
