  1. Gave this thing a look yesterday, and I did what I shouldn't have done, gave myself way too much time to look at it and over think so I pulled out. Would be cool to know when some guys are going to be there jumping it so I can just watch and judge the speed, because not sure what's the best speed to hit it. It is so well built by the way, well done to the builders!
  2. What happened to simply opening your eyes? You know your skill, you know your ability, so just be realistic and don't think you can do something you can't. Every person that has common sense should look at a jump before hitting it, even the best of the best always look at the jump up and down before they attempt it. As a spruit victim last year on the Scout hall line I broke my elbow (But I didn't blame anyone, patches taught me and not once did I blame anyone) It was my choice to hit it. Ride within your limits, and if you not smart about you going to get hurt...
  3. Got to love your keyboard warriors...
  4. Indeed it was, and I did expect the reactions I got. That is a good plan, I will look into it next time, or maybe I should phone the owner before I come
  5. Problem is resolved, so I am hoping this doesn't get any more messy. http://www.thewashingmachinepost.net/cover_images_26/campag-bottom-bracket.jpg This is the one in question, its got those little indents, the tool kind of looks like a sickle
  6. If you read my words in the context of the thread it is quite the opposite... I was merely using that as an example in reply to your question of having to book it in like everyone else. I would never use the tool myself, I agree that is wrong. I was just emphasizing that to book a bike in for a week is a bit extreme when the process will only take two minutes. Linden cycles is such a soft spot for everybody it seems, and I knew it would be. Just I ask for you to read and think before you jump to attacking me
  7. A company is nothing more than the people in that company, in this case the salesmen. You should not need to phone the owner every time you have a bad experience. The true rectification is the service that happens on future, and that will speak more than any phone call would. This thread will be a sign for this is in the future, if it happens again and to others then simply it is not an isolated event and one that requires a thread. If it doesn't then this thread will be forgotten about and it clearly was a rare event which was happily rectified.
  8. Remind me never to ever go to a shop that you run, I guess going beyond customer expectations is not your thing, you are all about delivering the bare minimum and won't do anything more. I just needed the tool, I would have gone to the back and done it myself, would have taken 2 minutes (I know this because the shop I went to after Linden cycles did it in 2 minutes happily for me) I did call her and we did have a good chat and no more harm done. But as mentioned you should not need to call the owner for good service. But I do believe the onus lies upon as to let her know our experiences so that she may be aware of what is happening in her shop, she can't be everywhere at once is what we concluded.
  9. This rant is not unmotivated as you are assuming. The BB is simple, it is a "cup-and-cone" system that requires a specific tool that you can not buy. The salesmen never understood this, the job was quick as all that was required was a tool that I did not have. Secondly, I did ask the salesmen if I could leave the frame here and request they look at it during the week (I emphasized it is a frame and does not take up space and I will pay for storage if it was required) which he did respond "No, as you can see we are very busy and that would not be possible"
  10. Perhaps you are right, I wrote this post with a very heavy heart as it has always been a great place to me and they have helped me countless times without a charge. I will give Joanne a call and chat to her about the incident and I am sure a happy solution will be possible. I just felt that the right people are not getting employed and the culture I have been accustomed to is being lost on the youngsters which are just focused on earning commission. I will give her a call, as you can see this is not a rant that I am happy about, just over the last year this is becoming more apparent. All I am saying is I am a person that goes their regularly and do know the high quality of service. If I was not a regular and this happened to be my first experience with them it would have been highly negative and a potential future customer lost...
  11. I never expected this day to ever come, from a child I have been going to this place, consistently giving the best and friendliest service a person could ask for, but after the past year this has seemed to have changed. Whenever I needed help or a part I used to pop in there and be helped with a smile, I pretty much have supported them with buying all my stuff there because of their great service. Over the last year the service has slowly changed, and Saturday was my tipping point. Doing my first restoration project and struggling with the BB I popped in there asking for assistance (I have done this before and happily they have helped, and of course purchasing of a few products at the same time). But as I have noticed they have a much younger workforce (I support their initiative), but when their employee knows less than me about what I am talking about and refuses to help me, book the bike in, and tells me to come in the week (which I cant because of work) it was a bit much. But if I was to be helped by someone else probably I may have got the service I am used to, its a game of luck in that place as to what service you get, and it shouldn't be like this? And he goes on to say "As you can see today we are all about selling bicycles so if you can come back in the week it would be better" Very disappointing
  12. We have an outing of about 10 of us going to Mankele this weekend?? Is there an event happening??
  13. I was the one going for the dam approach... instead i found a mate willing to donate his pool so that is in building at the moment As for the soil, cool so moral of the story is compact compact compact, pure physical labour, plan on putting some logs down for the first few jumps and then dirt over then go into bigger ones My december project
  14. Hey guys, found a place near my home which would be awesome for me to build a mini jump line, i enquired about soil and i wanted to know is it possible to build with soil filling? I figured dirt is dirt and no matter what i can build jumps with it? Possible? Stupid idea?
  15. If i wanted to be safe id just go to the spinning class every saturday morning but instead a bought a mountain bike cause its just way more fun... It is public land and i could get into a lot of trouble but if no one sees me building my ramp there is no proof of linking me to said ramp, so its much of a muchness... as we all say the "spruit fairy" who knows who he is As for the safety of the water, im young and stupid and want to have fun
  16. I like all the ideas... I'll give the delta park dam a look later in the week, is there a jump into it or just go straight off the edge? as for the growing a dirt jump i see it happening here and there seems like the approach many people take but my mound of dirt will need to be pretty big... A portable BMX jump would be a winner I wont lie and jumping into emmarentia dam would be a dream but I'm sure the authorities will be onto you the minute you jump in the lake for the first time, and you will attract quite a bit of attention...
  17. Thanks for the replies guys... Yeah a person with a dam would be preferable but those kind of people are few ad far in between... As for the diseases i'm not too stressed (ive swam in way worse and i'm still kicking) but the law suits are a bit of a problem which I was worried about, but if no person knows who built maybe I can avoid that... Thanks for the heads up on the airbag session i will definitely take a look at that, but I still think a dam would be sweet! There is one ramp at van gaalens into the river but the possible crocodile thing is a bit worrying...
  18. Hey guys, So not new to the forum read alot but this is my first post, i ride a lot, all about the free riding style and I got myself an idea of building a ramp into a dam... This will really be helpful as you can practice and have so much fun doing it... So to find a dam is another thing, on the spruit before emmarentia by the skinny bridge there is a mini dam which seems appropriate, but as with many building problems i know i could get into a lot of trouble... So whats the worst that can happen if i choose to build this ramp?? Thanks
