  1. I always wave when I'm given right of way and in fact just wave to let them know im going. As a result in my area alot of drivers know me and are really nice. Unless its the odd bad driver!!
  2. Best wind speed sites for me are wunderground and windfinder here in Cape town wind is howling everyday of the year. So I check these sites out every day to prepare mentally for what is out there. Rarely are winds below 35km/h where I live along the coast. So the headwinds are always harsh. Alot of times they in the 42-50km/h region and of course hit 60 to 80km/h sometimes
  3. Surprising I've had more problems with female drivers nearly knocking me. 3 cases in the last few weeks. I am not stereotyping. I am just telling it like it is. 2 blondes and 1 brunette. So does this mean female drivers are more reckless than men?
  4. I read the newspaper articeon news24l come on guys! 106km/h really? on a bicycle? are these cyclists smoking something or are they simply insane? Reading the story I tend to agree maybe we cyclists should be banned from busy roads. i meaning the way some of us are acting is unbelievable. I wouldn't expect this from a child yet alone adults. If cyclists on a certain road pose a danger to others(yes if you ride like a maniac then I actually care about the drivers) then ban them period. Why must a motorist spend his life in prision when it was some imbecile who caused the problem. I love cycling as much as any cyclist but if some of us need disciplining then so be it. P.S. if you want to commit suicide please do it far away from others - don't take us with you!!
  5. I have a dream that all cyclists and motorists shall use the roads in harmony and there will be no bloodshed amongst either group. I have a dream that it will not be the laws that govern us but our humanity - that simple respect for your fellow man. I have a dream that we can all as road users rise above our arrogance and admit when we are wrong. That we may never try to justify a wrong by only making it worse. I have dream that as the city goes forward, as the country evolves there will be adequate consideration for all road users motorists and cyclists alike.
  6. Thanks Matt - I barely noticed the downtime - The Hub SA is just awesome!!!!. Besides during downtime i was probably out riding when I came back it was up lol
  7. I agree. Lets face it since cycling became "commercialized" A passion turned into a horror. All the problems caused now are due to doping - why did they come about? Because of people pushing themselves to earn a living in this sport. The commercialization has driven athletes to take drugs - harm their bodies and made cycling look like a thing for deranged people. Even the problems on the roads where do they stem from? The fact that this is now a sport where money matters not passion not the joy of riding. I laughed myself off day before yesterday when I was riding. A small group of guys also took the route at the same time by chance. One could see these are very serious - the "professionals" of this new cycling world. Fit, expensive bikes and well equipped. Yet I kept up with them - even managed to take the lead on a number of occasions - up hill i could ride past them and yet I'm about 20kgs heavier then any of them. You know what? I saw as they went their way frustration that they were pushing their limits and someone(like me) just out for a ride can compete with them. A month ago, the same thing happened with a female cyclists - There she was well equipped fit and competing with anyone on the road. I past her and went to stop at the Red Robot - know what she did? She past the Red Robot. So is this what we have become? People who compete even in traffic when we not on a race track? Drug takers - believing we can better our performance? Personally I hope cycling as a sport dies so from the ashes can rise up a new order - cycling as a passion. I might sound harsh but look at it. The cycling world is like the fall of Rome, just like in the 3rd century when Rome was ravaged by the Visigoths. Cycling is ravaged by doping and various other problems.
  8. Today a cyclist crossed a Red robot, he went through an intersection. During rush hour! In Plattekloof. Fact of the matter is cyclists will simply never act like cars, cyclists will never be cars and many cyclists will be involved in accidents. Also cars will never treat cyclists like cars. As long as there are cyclists there will be cyclists dying in accidents. We just have to face it.
  9. Now I dont want to piss anyone off but here are my two cents. 1)Sometimes there are Red robots yet there is a shoulder and it is a T- junction meaning no vehicle can cross the road's shoulder in that case I feel you do not need to stop at the Red robot. 2) On a Sunday you can stop at the Red robot then when its Green by the time you ready to go and clip on your pedals, before you even through the intersection, its Red again! 3) Riding behind trucks could be dangerous. As the truck creates a boundary layer of air that is moving at the speed say 80km/h if the truck suddenly stops you could be sucked under the truck. Especially due to the pressure difference in the fast moving air and the ambient air. So in Summary yes its wrong to cross Red robots but not always and it could be dangerous to cycle next to a truck
