  1. Don't have a 32 socket or anything size 32... but thinking i might try stick it in the vice.. should work! Bummed that i payed just about R100 for this spray on stripper.. not keen to go spend another R80 on more stripper... will see if i can source some
  2. Sweet frame reference for the black fork, wish i could do some wicked details like this! http://dudemanart.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/right-side-full.jpg?w=1000&h=
  3. Stripping the paint.. slow progress!
  4. So I have decided to finally give my old road bike (Alpina frame from who knows when) a makeover, it does have gears, but it seems everyone is putting their project bikes in this forum so here goes! This is a WIP and hope to get it sprayed and done in about a weeks time! Todo list: - New Spray job... (Yellow for the frame and thinking black fork) and hoping i can get some nice vinyl cutouts for graphics for the frame. - Re-do cabling - Polish up cranks - New Drivetrain (Still sourcing parts) Bike as it was originally: Started stripping the bike down yesterday, realised i didn't have a shifting spanner big enough for the headset so found a f' off big spanner at a friend and used a bit of a shimmy to loosen the locknut: I also started with the terrible job of stripping the paint... I bought paint stripper in a can - BAD idea as it doesnt do a good job at all and just ends up kinda of going everywhere except on the frame... so im scraping for days, but glad the rust that was on the frame is coming off nice and easily which was my main reason for wanting to re-spray! Will follow this thread up with progress of how its going.. For the spray job I plan on spraying primer - then some good quality spray paint (Montana) for the colour then a clear coat, i have heard that if you spray clear it can lead to the paint chipping quite easily, does anyone know if this is true?
  5. Oh dam that Thule rack looks like it is the absolute bomb - the fact that it works on both front and back as well as attaches to the seat stays is dam near perfect for making it universal! I wonder if they stock that here? Edit: They do indeed and at R1400 its not to much further off of the other prices for panniers although it definitely looks like its much more universal so i dont think you need to buy any sort of adaptors for it...
  6. Ye, I have done hikes with hiking bags and i cant imagine wearing that on a bike, the bag is just not designed for that and besides its huge... Would normal racks be able to accomodate the weight though - thats my concern, dont want to use a cheapy rack just for it to bend halfway through the journey. How would you modify them for panniers as well? Do you have pics for reference? Thanks!
  7. Hello fellow bicycle commuters, I am wanting to do a cycle tour in the near future and am in need of panniers / racks and all that jazz, unfortunately this stuff seems very scarce around here and i was wondering if anyone knows where i can find rear and front racks for an affordable price as the ones that I have seen cost atleast R1k (New) which is way more than I am willing to pay for a piece of metal tubing! Any help or advice will be appreciated!
  8. Obviously money is not a factor in this round up hehe
  9. Another cyclist got attacked on the cycle lanes going to table view under the bridge yesterday @ roughly 5:30pm (Saw on Twitter) Seems this area is getting bad again... I think they need to position a copper there again like they used too!
  10. Ok cool, and that will be fine for a RS Boxxer you reckon? I just want to change the oil in the lowers... also where can you find seals if I were to want to replace them? CRC?
  11. Where can you find the Motul 15wt oil?
  12. Hi Guys, Looking for someone to do the early morning commute with, otherwise it gets pretty boring by yourself! 24/26 km/h avg Can meet at Dolphin Beach or by Bayside traffic lights at about 7:15am Let me know if you are keen!
  13. Have they fixed the hole in the fence that used to be there? Has anyone used the N1 route, if so what is the route specifically?
  14. Hey guys, I am moving back to Table view and will be gunning it on the cycle track once again... just wanted to know why I see so many guys riding on marine drive in paarden eieland and on the N1 instead of following the cycle track through the back of PE and coming out at Woodstock, I do recall it being a bit sketch but surely they have beefed up the security there? How else do you get in to or out of town without going on the N1 ?? And what is the route if you go on the N1? Thanks!
  15. Yup, what you see is what you get, the shirt is a very dark grey/charcoal colour, with white print.
  16. It's quite a generic name, so these things happen... it was definitely not intended, logo is completely different and i dont have a link to any sites and im not selling bike parts, its clothing, but hey they might be interested in stocking some It's R200 a tee Brett_Hayward, and theres only a few left in the first batch i think! Edit: No cycling shirts just yet... need to test the waters with that soon though
