  2. yup, although it gets pretty hilly if it would manage to go into durbanville side, aka vissershok climb and all the others in that area... we might be doing the Die Burger lol
  3. Maybe all 30 000 cyclists should cycle to the fire and help put it out?? The Fire-gus!
  4. Hey man, I did a one month tour (Transkei -> CPT) last year and i was in the same position as you. Here is what i learnt: If you want panniers, go through cycletouring.co.za and get some ortliebs, its the best price you will get them for, cant get them any cheaper if you try import them yourself either. I got the classic rollers and they are rock solid however - replace the plastic bolts / wood screws that secure the rack clipping system to the inside of the pannier with a proper bolt and a locknut, mine literally rattled out after one day on dirt roads in transkei, luckily i brought a whole lot of spare bolts which i used to replace the plastic *** that ortlieb gives you. I even emailed them and they said they havent had any issues with them before (this is ortlieb international) but yeah, rather dont take the chance and replace them before hand. With regards to racks, any rack will do - just make sure that your bike has eyelets, and always bring spare bolts with locktight, i had one of my bottom bolts shear off which had me doing a ghetto zip tie fix for the remaining few days. And two back panniers with one big waterproof bag that you use on river rafting trips on top of the rack will be more than sufficient, no need for front panniers - you will end up not using half of what you bring anyway! Oh and chamois cream.... this will be worth more than gold ! PM me if you want more info! Cheers
  5. Get Gatorskins for your road bike (If you dont have them already) I was getting so many punctures at one stage with my old crappy R100 tires that i thought i was going to go insane from the patching of tubes every night, and road tubes seem to be a lot more finicky to get right because of the pressure, needless to say, i forked out for the gators and havent had a puncture or a pinch flat since!
  6. I do recall in my younger years, my dad made something very very similiar to this, except it was one plank of wood that he somehow managed to get balanced on the top tube (Back when top tubes werent angled like they are now) and i sat on it like the pic above ^^ Was great because you can atleast see whats going on! Albeit not as safe as the full on bucket seat i guess, but hey theres always a trade off!
  7. Haha, guess ill just have to put up with them after all hehe
  8. Hairy please add me to the whatsapp commute group

  11. Spotted this from Interbike http://ep1.pinkbike.org/p4pb11411286/p4pb11411286.jpg http://www.lupine.de/eng/products/rear-tail-lights/rotlicht "Lupine had this new Rotlicht (red light) on display. 160 lumens, 55g and attached via a simple rubber belt. It features a Brightness Sensor which reacts to ambient light, for example if a car's headlights appear behind you it turns up the brightness. But what really caught my attention was the built in accelerometer senses when you slow down and illuminates a brake light. Is this a first in the cycling industry? Lupine also have a range of Smartcore batteries. Pictured is the largest 13.2Ah, it has an LED Capacity Indicator and can be used to recharge anything using the USB connection. Great for keeping your SmartPhone alive on camping or adventure rides when you need to stay in constant contact with Facebook."

  15. Morning everyone, A great new initiative has been launched on Bicycle Cape Town called a Bike Bus "A bike bus (also known as a bike train or a cycle train) is a group of people who cycle to work in a group. It’s called a “bus” because there’s a set timetable and route so it can collect more “passengers” along the way. Cyclists may leave the bike bus at various points along the way." So to all the hardened commuters out there - add your route to the site and help get some new people into commuting to work... ! Or tell someone about the bike bus initiative and get them to join one! 16. Anyone riding in tomorrow? Gonna be doing the UN-rain dance haha!
  17. Update on that - its now actually R15 to shower whilst the pool is apparently closed - makes absolutely no sense...
  18. What is that? That top tube >>>>>>>
  19. I used to ride to school when i was younger, it was great as all my friends did as well and we would go BMXíng straight after school and hit all the spots! The SE was a bit of a bugger though in summer, but having freedom is what counts the most! I was lucky though to stay roughly 5km from the school which was accessible by suburban roads mainly.. and i never had any issues with cars etc etc I now commute to work as well as much as i can, nothing beats dropping everyone in the traffic and getting a workout, kill 2 birds with 1 stone!
  20. I have an x9 shifter mated to a Zee clutch derailleur on my downhill bike, works a treat!
  21. I bought a pair of their bib shorts about 2 months ago, I went on a cycle tour with them for a month wearing them basically everyday over 1500kms and they are still good, altho the stitching started to come apart by the chamois towards the end but i just sewed it up and its all good! Good value for money if you ask me!
