  1. Thanks babse. But where and when is pre-registration?
  2. Eish. Entries already closed. I am used to entries closing on Wednesday or Thursday... To be [a late on the day entrant] or not to be
  3. I can't see it but by the power of logic deduction and experience I know it will be smaller. Last year there was 77 riders starting in AL and 81 starting in BL (Some A riders chose to drop back also). So my guess is that the group sizes are around 80 big.
  4. Yea, a very light drizzle - hopefully
  5. I believe so, seeding should be more or less good (Except for those riders like me because they could hang on to the A bunch in West Coast Express ) . My second best seeded race gives index of 6.86 (Sportiff #6) - Not sure if that would have been good enough for the A group, but perhaps Everybody agreed groups were too big for SCT since we do not have road closures, so yea I am happy with the PPA group/seeding system for races
  6. If I look at the seeding's for this race on racetec then this is going to be a super fast race in the front groups. Some of the guys who started in the $ group in SCT is starting in the B (BL). PPA is now dynamically allocating the group number you start with, which is based on Seeding Index and group size/limit. In summary, the start group for this race is smaller but probably higher quality than SCT. Most of the top finishers from SCT is also riding this race. I am already nervous
  7. Did you guys see the two guys from 1A who caught the % group. They came passed me after Pniel but before the T-Junction. Some strong riding. I also see the seeding is out, according to my calcs none of the % riders will be upgraded to the A group of PPA (Sub 10 seeding), but these two 1A riders will
  8. The crash on the second windmeul roller. Got stuck in that one and tried to chase back, was 10 seconds behind the bunch for 5km, got to the follow cars and thought I could jump across when there was a small rise but popped with 5-10m behind the peleton, Strava says I was 1-2 seconds behind. Then decided to wait for company and got a coke at the water stop and soon afterward two guys joined (the one with the bib torned at the leg - which I think might be you, who let us go on the Lievland climb and then the % bunch got us on that small sharp climb close to stellies. Decided to take it easy with the lead tandems over helshoogte and not long afterwards the % group was together again and I was surprised to see the rider with the torn bib again! Enjoyed the race but hope parking can be sorted out and like others said 100-ish groups with 2-3min gaps. Edit: Fixes quote
  9. This was like 100m from the finish. I were a few meters behind them (orange Absolute Motion kit - 6 of us ) and really do not know how he crashed and then his team mate stopped in the middle of the road and we had to dodge him also.
  10. I wonder how big the groups will be, seems like it is going to be kinda big since a friend with a K PPA seeding is riding in the B (BL) group of this race, with a race number in the 600.
  11. [Deleted saw it is being discussed here] https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/166069-ppa-road-seeding-index/page-3?do=findComment&comment=3395952
  12. Ah, ok. I did the race in 2014 from group E, feels so long ago and totally forgot about Malanshoogte. It was a good race. It was my fourth official race on racetec
  13. Winning time in 2014 was 2h30, which would have been a "nice" adjusted time. I think we had the gravel slen road that year, and the pro's wasn't at SA's. Even a 2h42 didn't give a sub 10 seeding. Abit off-topic: I have been thinking that it would be nice if they made add another seeding group which is index 5 - 10. Theres a hell of a difference between the top guys and someone with a ~9 seeding. But they will probably then combine the groups for most races anyways.
  14. I think I stumbled on some inside info on how they determined your Argus seeding. From the below link, I can see all my recent races got a 5 penalty, except Stellenbosch cycle tour and 170km One Tonner. http://seeding.cycletour.co.za/riderseeding.aspx
  15. A starts 06h20, B at 06h25. Not sure if A is first group since website says race starts 06h15. Also wondering if one can collect number at race on the morning.
  16. I got like halfway through the registration last time, so perhaps it closed while I was busy. Now I get this error straight away: Sorry, but the PPA Cyclo Sportif #1 is closed. Any incomplete baskets found have been cleared.
  17. Sigh, wanted to do this race this and thought entries closes midnight, but it is closed already
  18. Great race in Cat2, was suffering quite abit But I got annoyed with so many riders who just do not care about riding on the wrong side of the white line. Myself / Other riders / The bike marshall repeatedly told the guys to keep left of the white line but time and again riders just ride on the other side.
  19. Looks like a nice event! Hopefully, the MTB route is not too technical for me! Getting an MTB this week and this will probably be my first event with it Still pondering whether it will be 30km or 55km for me.
  20. I have heard rumors that they might use the result of the 99er for substitutes. But I reckon that it should show on http://seeding.cycletour.co.za/ before they allocate your start time and the 99er is not yet listed there.
  21. Duane_Bosch, on 15 Feb 2017 - 11:47 AM, said: I normally get my new seeding number at the race, just ask for a "reseed" and you will get what you are eligible for, and pay R50. Just remember, the race must be over 80km or more than 750m of climbing or it will receive a 15% penalty http://www.pedalpower.org.za/how-seeding-is-calculated/ So the race might not help much w.r.t seeding (not sure how much climbing it involves), except if you are really strong, and if it does, you need to dock up another extra R50 at tour de ppa.
  22. For me this is quite an interesting topic and I salute everybody who stops at red robots even when there is no car in sight. I must confess that I have jumped red robots when it is safe to do so. Sometimes you have to wait for it to become safe. I always jump a certain robot when I turn left at that robot and there is a huge shoulder which I turn into, only a taxi would try to stop there so I watch out for them. I will think about not jumping red robots, like the OP is intending to do.
  23. FYI If you check on pedal power "Seeding Lookup" you will see they have given this race a beta of 1.34 and adjusted the winning time to 2h45. The resulting index I got is my second best
  24. I was in the H-I bunch. Started at the back of the group as I have an I group number, the pedal power queue were to long to get my new "G" number. Was playing catching up from the start as our combined group were 112 people big according to racetec and I think I started at least a minute later than the first H riders. Although I went hard from the start I did not make it to the small group of 8 H riders who crested helshoogte first and formed a break-away and I could not bridge the gap. A big group H-I riders caught me at the railway crossing. There was a crash after 57km, just after turning from the R304. We were going at 24km/h against a head-wind at the stage. Missed the falling riders in front of me just just. I think all of the riders managed to bridge the gap after the crash. At the 90km mark the group seemed somewhat small (20-30 riders) so the rollers must have taken its toll. Myself and a few riders stopped at the 90km water point and a 4man group formed after I started again. The last 10km was extremely tough for me, from the point where we joined the short course group. Overall I am quite happy with the race, think my body was nicely pushed to the limit.
  25. Seems I was lucky or they realized I needed more than one cup. Took one at the start and one at the end of the table (first cup finished by then) and they did not say anything
