  1. Anybody driving through early Saturday morning and coming back afternoon who wants to carpool? At this stage I'm likely driving up all alone and have roofracks for two bikes. Leaving from Southern Suburbs. Anyone interested?
  2. Entered. Anyone know any good camping sites in the area?
  3. I remember the first time I looked at a time trial bike, I mean really looked at one. I was filming an event called the Westcoast Warmwater Weekend. Paul Valstar was commentating. A bunch of kids, maybe 4 or 5 years old, had gathered around Dan Hugo's bike. Paul went over to explain that it is called a time trial bike and a bit about how it worked. As I stepped nearer, one of the kids called to his brother, "Come look here! A time-travel bike!". Click here to view the article
  4. I've always wanted to do an ultra-distance triathlon but it has always been a bit out of my reach. I'm not a member of a triathlon club, I don't own a time trial bike, and I can't swim properly. I've completed a few shorter triathlons, including the Jailbreak Minimum Escape, but Jailbreak Maximum Security is my biggest triathlon undertaking to date. Click here to view the article
  5. Are you talking about the auto-generated subtitles made by youtube that you need to switch on? Mine don't come on automatically.
  6. I also rode this bike at a demo day and loved it. Felt good on it immediately and I was surprised how fun it was even after demoing the speedfox first.
  7. WRT to devices, a phone picks up way fewer gps points per second than a proper gps device. Good gps devices you can also calibrate to say how accurate you want it, ie low accuracy lets the battery last longer. The way phones work it looks like one of those connect-the-dots pictures but proper device is actually very accurate. WRT segment hunter we do use a GPS device.
  8. Holy moly.who is this guy? 9:13? Was he banned from the Olympics?
  9. If you check out the data on strava, Louis hits a top speed of 56,5km/h, Gert only hits 50,4km/h. He smashed it harder around corners and put out more explosive acceleration out of corners.
  10. This isn't the segment that was chosen. 'Bloemslang- Just the drop' was chosen and taken, still standing. The below segment is another segment within the same trail. Not a fail
  11. wow that uppermost ascent looks like it has some big names on it. Hard to find someone to smoke that.
  12. https://www.strava.com/segments/8498222 This is the most aptly named segment I've ever seen. If you've ridden it you'll understand.
  13. Is this the climb up Plum Pudding to the bottom of THE SINGLE TRACK?
  14. Let me preface this article by saying that I am not a pro, or an expert. I do not know the technical details or have any inside scoops. Also, I am not sponsored by, or affiliated to PYGA in any way, and I'm not getting paid to write this review. I do, however, love riding and enjoy writing, and this is merely an average guy's opinion and experience with the Pyga 110 29er. Click here to view the article
  15. You didn't even wait for your partner you monkey.I can see her out of focus in the distance behind you.
  16. It is meant to be used as a training ground year-round, free entry. Here is the other video which explains a bit more.
  17. Thanks. yeah man I went for a ride two days later, felt totally fine. Learnt how to do it without hurting myself long-term. I suppose I have some base but not that strong at the moment. Too much work.
  18. Hey you guys are making me blush. Raydek, from my calculations I ended up doing 370kms, but with around 8000m of climbing.
  19. When I was 8 or 9 years old, I won a competition in the jellybean journal; that's the kiddies section of the newspaper. They called me up on stage at school to get my prize. The horror. That was pretty embarrassing. For the next twenty years I won nothing and did nothing impressive with my life. Click here to view the article

    Tour of Arae

I am entered to do this race. I have an old bike but not a vintage set of wheels so I hope I get away with a newer-looking wheelset.
  21. Agreed. I just set up a super old alpina steel frame thats older than me for a vintage race I'm doing and I feel as fast as I was on a TCR. Obviously it is a bit heavier but as you say, with road bikes it's not as big a difference. I did put my decent wheelset on the bike, I agree with ians, that is a very good upgrade to make. MTB is a bit of a different story though. Best cheap upgrade for MTB? decent tyres.
  22. I mostly just ride on my own or meet up with my brother somewhere but I'm keen to join a ride sometime. Have you got an activity card to get onto the mountain? It's worth getting. I am in wynberg area.
  23. But if anyone is reading this that did get decent gopro footage of something exciting on route (crash/animals/excitement) let me know cos I can use it in the tv show and you can get a moment of fame.
