  1. I’ve been struck by lightning while hiking in the berg. Now whenever it looks a bit sketch and I want to go run or ride I check my lightning app and make a call based on distance. Trust me, it’s a myth that the tallest things get struck. I was struck walking down a contour path with plenty things higher than me in my immediate vicinity. Rules for staying safe: if you can find a hollow spot to hide, do that. Crouch down - do not lie down. Most people are killed from nearby strikes hitting the ground and then conducting from the ground into their bodies. If you have a backpack stand on that instead of the ground. If in doubt, don’t go out!
  2. GPXviewer. Used it plenty for hiking but chows battery so make sure you give it a test run first.
  3. Something definitely seems off service wise. I bought some stuff from them, long story short, they didn’t have stock of an item listed as “in stock” so we agreed that I’d get the SLX version and be refunded the difference. Still waiting for refund and no reply to email either. Edit: Naas contacted me and sorted out the issue. Will put it down to end of year craziness. Have had good service from them in the past and will continue to support them as long as that continues.
  4. Cool, glad you at least got some of it working. I'm sure if you play around with the Wahoo/Zwift calibration it will all come right for cadence as well.
  5. I have the tickr2X and it works with zwift. Are you on iPad? Sometimes, when it doesn’t pair, I need to open the wahoo app, pair it there and click “start activity” then I close that app and go directly into zwift (which I have open on the username page). I only have to do this like once in forever. Once I get it paired it’s usually ages before it doesn’t work again.
  6. 1. (5x^4)/3 - 20 = 0 5x^4 - 60 = 0 Divide everything by 5 and factorise x^4 - 12 = 0 (x^2 - sqt12)(x^2 + sqtt12) = 0 x^2 - sqt12 = 0. OR x^2 + sqt12 = 0 Now you must factorise the x^2 - sqt12 = 0 again This is difficult to write on computer but you will essentially get x = +//12 and x = - //12 2. (3x)^2 +36^1/2 = 100 9x^2 + 6 = 100 9x^2 - 94 = 0 Now factorise (3x - sqt94)(3x + sqt94) = 0 3x - sqt94 = 0 OR 3x + sqtt 94 = 0 x = (sqt93)/3. Or x = - (sqt94)/3
  7. Eish, where to begin. 1. These are equations NOT expressions - that means that to solve for x you must use inverse operations. By extension, this means that your order of operations will be reversed. Instead of doing Brackets - Exponents - Division/multiplication - Addition/subtraction (BEDMAS) you must do Subtraction/addition - Multiplication/Division - Exponents - Brackets (SAMDEB). 2. The first example is a Quadratic (x^2) equation and the second a quartic (x^4) equation but they both behave the same. Since x has an even power, it will have 2 solutions (one +ve and one -ve) hence you cannot solve by "getting x on its own" and square rooting as you will "lose a solution". You MUST use the method of difference of 2 squares. ie. x^2 - b^2 = 0 NB to get everything = 0 with a quadratic eqn. (x + b)(x - b) = 0 x + b = 0 Or x - b = 0 x = -b Or x = b
  8. You could always hire an e-bike from the club if you really wanted to ride Bat outta hell without trying to park somewhere closer (sarcasm font)
  9. Outback trails are in great condition as they were cleared for the race. The whole of pressure pot/khyber/Lebanon is running clear. Besides the greater KK area, Hilton and Cascades, nothing really noteworthy trails wise. But as others have mentioned, in 4 riding days this should be enough, even if you’ve ridden KK plenty, there’s always more to explore.
  10. Day 1 - Harkerville. A nice scenic meander through the forest and along the coast. Either do all the loops for 50km or ride to and from the trailhead on the road and do red loop. Day 2 - Knysna Trails. Check out trailforks for maps. You probably also have to pay a day license fee at one of the bike shops. Trails start at top of Simola climb so will be a good ride from Thesen Island. Day 3 - GRTP. Bit of a ride/drive to get out there but all the flow trails and power climbs to keep you smiling for weeks.
  11. I’m pretty similar to you. Run about 5x a week and MTB whenever I have a chance. For riding I’m using a MTB on a dumb trainer with Powertap power wheel (Road tyre) transmitting via BLT to my IPad. I got this setup from a friend who upgraded. If I were to start from scratch I’d definitely get a kickr as it’s hassle free and you don’t need a new wheel/tyre. On the running side I use the Wahoo Tickr X II which does speed, cadence and HR on zwift running. Have a middle of the range treadmill. If you’re looking for the social aspect, cycling is the way to go because there’s just more interest/activity on zwift for cyclists. You can easily ride 90/120 minutes without feeling bored. I enjoy the running but I’m a fan of treadmill running in general. That being said it gets a bit boring after an hour because there’s no one to chase and the experience is not the same (algorithm doesn’t adjust your speed for climbs/descents).
  12. Wayne, there’s a suspicious looking ad in the classifieds. All of us following this thread feel betrayed! Edit: No comic sans on mobile
  13. Sunweb pulling everyone from 3km to go again. But Bol not good enough again. The days of big sprint teams seems to be over. If you have someone that has the legs and timing they can just sit on till 300m.
  14. Agreed, there are a whole lot of factors that make someone a pro, not just power numbers. Perhaps “average hubber” wasn’t accurate but I still think looking at the power data puts that effort more into context than BPM or average speed. Although yes, you still need to be able to sit in the bunch all things considered.
  15. Lanterne Rouge mentioned that Sepp Kuss rode the first 3 hours @128W Avg. That’s 2.1W/kg for him. I’m not saying these guys aren’t superhuman but I think an average Hubber could have kept up on this stage. Maybe not at 97bpm but still pretty easily.
