  1. Hijack on... Excuse the pun if you will. Idont think that for the general population there is any concept to the value of a bike. i was filling my car up the other day and had my bike on the carrier. The pump attendant obviously interested in this shiny black and red thing stuck on the back of my car asks if how much my bike is worth, and if he can get one for 1500? I was not going to tell him he would be closer by adding a zero, but it highlighted two things, how privleged those of us with decent bikes are, and how naive for lack of a better word people are to the costs of bikes. Suppose to some its just a bike. Who the ****knows what a mavic wheel set is?
  2. Its the holiday season Anyone left in JHB keen to do a Relaxed spruit ride on Sat 7h00 start Emmerntia and ride down to bike park for a bit? Emphasis on the relaxed element. Have'nt done the spruit in months, but i hear its safer these days
  3. Sean is pretty much spot on. If you do want the rand value, you could liaise with their sponsor brand, or speak to Newsclip, if they are a client, I for one use newsclip. Sean's matrix is good, but you will never be spot on, as is the same with trying to measure column inches
  4. I was in two minds about whether to post about the Bike park, as i prefer not to whinge. I will say its quite nice to have a safer environment than the spruit on this side of town, even though they are two totally different rides, esp if your tend to ride solo. I was there twice this weekend, and will be back again, no doubt, BUT only when the bike park is closer to completion, i am not convinced should it be open just yet, as there is not 50 bucks worth of riding YET. Last nights rains did not do the trails any favours, and the park only opened at 9:15 or so. Geoff (i assume, Aussy with Tats) was actually there fixing up the trails and the one fence and bridge which looked worse for the wear. As a moan the razor wire so close the the trail is plain stupid, all else i can live with, even the rubbish wood, as this will need replacing next week any ways That is my assesment.
  5. Was very average. Joke of the Show has to be the Ferrari Bikes. So i was expecting Ferrari MTb's to be specced like, well Ferarri's XTR etc, did you notice the hard tail was Shimano Deore componenents and a Suntour XCR Fork. for R25K. A GT Avalanche 2 is the same spec and costs R5K. Go Figure. Biggest joke. nothing Mind Blowing. Maybe i am jaded just haivng finished off at the JHB Intl Motor Show, dunno
  6. Looks very nice What are the specs on this bike?
  7. Razor... 1) Type of motorola Cell Phone, 2) More commonly used by men to remove facial hair, and cyclists to remove leg hair umm ya
  8. Today i did a group ride at Groenkloof this morning in the rain, Absolutely sublime!!!. Reasonable pace, and the mud adds a new dimension to the ride. Awsome ride, possibly my ride of the year. I reccomend Groenkloof in the wet. I also reccommend turning a blind eye the componenet wear . As much as i knew how harsh mud is on the bike, it rocked. Hosed it down this Morning, will do a proper clean in the evenings this week. DO IT
  9. Great, its looking to be wheels thus far. My bro is coming for a visit from Canada in about 10 days, so i may ask him to transport them for me. Anyone know of a LBS in Toronto? Obviously depends on how we get treated with currency in the next few days
  10. Hi I am currently riding a fairly middle of the Road Bike. Giant Alias 09. Looking to improve the bike a bit. (the rider needs improving of his own ) Looking to upgrade either Wheelset or Shock. At the moment, its got a Rock Shox Tora, some cheap A$$ alex rims. I suspect going a new wheelset (XT and Tubless) will set me back about the same as or a bit less than a new fork. Using the combined knowlegde of the hub, i would like to know your opinions on which to do first. (or do i do the crank, XT and have some change). Thanks in advance.
  11. i am thinking about going, but will just end up depressed as i wont be riding the race. Hopefully will be able to pick up a couple of items.
  12. Interesting SL
  13. Good to hear another good news story from avnic, those boys are on top of their game and support cyclin in a big way
  14. Hard luck! Overall 56km was good fun. Lots of room to pass. Quick flowing race. Any one else who did 56 today?
  15. Thanks for all the info. So stuff does exist, awesome. I certainly think an exploration ride is in order. We should hook somehting up soon, perhaps, two weekends time, as its CC this coming weekend.
  16. More info Please Which store? I need to get some sun glasses which are prescription, may as well stick them on my medical aid this year
  17. Yeah, the Uzi will mess with my weight saving I have heard about the trail by the driving range which as i understand is a down hill course. Any info on this trail? cant seem to find it on the net. When i was a lightie we once or twice took a hike on the ridge, that was before some guy got his throat slit there. Where we entered in the past is now fenced off, i would love to ride there though
  18. Thanks, I am trying to find trails that i can ride too, i will figure way through the back roads. Just riding 20Kms to do the spruit which is not much more and is kinda boring. Tackled the ridge between Bruma and linksfield this morning. Nice hill but its not a route, once you at the top, you got to turnaround.
  19. Its quite possible that i am missing something here, (due to being new to Mtb) but i cant seem to find any decent, (at all) trails in the bedfordview edenvale area. Does any one here ride in these areas?
  20. https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=2078&PID=542889#542889 There she is. Massive. When you 6'2 you need a big bike s'pose

  22. Bought the Alias yesterday, for better or worse Took it out on the trail today. Noticed its a lot larger than the GT ( one size up). Overall think i have a decent bike to play with here. My views: Pros- substantial frame for its money with reasonably specced parts (will upgrade as they wear out) I like the stance with which i ride it. Cons- HEAVY, Insanely heavy, nice for downhills though.
  23. Thanks, I will be taking an Alias for a ride a little later. If it feels good its gonna be on the trail tommorrow.
  24. Okay, Here is the story... I know on some pieces its only a slight spec upgrade. Since its a decent Frame, componenets will be done over time, If that makes sense. The main reason i am not keeping the GT (frame geo i love) it seems a bit small, LBS different store to one i bought bike from tends to agree. Have managed to bust 2x Ritchey Comp posts due to long extension,(never over max) Oh yeah, the GT has Tektra H Disks. I am happy with what i will fetch on a trade in. Just bout 60% of purchase price.
  25. No Sir. The Spec i am looking at is as follows Fork: Rock Shock Tora Rear Derailleur: Shimano SLX Front Der: Deore (Have an XT and will put that on) Shifters: Deore Rapid Fire All rest is the same IIRC. Current GT has LX Rear, XT Front, Suntour XCR Shock joke, Alivio shifters.
