  1. We couldn't keep up with the two that won. No doubt those riders have the skills and strength to go with it but they out climbed us and then completely demolished us on the gravel downhills with their bigger gear ratios. I did see some of the gravel bikes have a hard time in the sand and when it got really bumpy... would I have wanted one? I dunno... I was quite comfortable on my HT.
  2. Purchased an entry over the weekend... waiting for the buyers remorse to kick in
  3. Is there info on waterpoints and the distances they are on?
  4. Sums up the race pretty well, though I think you got closer to the bunch than I did after trying to salvage a race after being stuck behind the crash. I was still chasing that sub 3 at the end there... and it was really hard watching the Garmin going 2:59:58... 2:59:59... 3:00:00... 3:00:01...
  5. Thank goodness I am fat
  6. I had to actually stop to be able to take photos
  7. Also waiting... but nothing yet
  8. C is for Cookie
  9. I need to beat The Captain... I recommend long rides with lots of climbing... don't rest at all... don't even sleep...
  10. There is no Savage in $ so obv there could be no one else in there yet
  11. hahaha, lets hope there isn't a #5 next week
  12. And there are some very leka singletrack! I wrapped myself around a tree on Full Monty 3 on a recce run so I have a bone to pick with that segment
  13. This is going to be Epic!
  14. You can tow me if you want!
  15. Don't do it, you guys are not tough enough for this race... * ... quietly presses the enter button and enters ... *
  16. I am going to such wheel and be very proud of it
  17. Always love reading these! Again thanks for letting me tag along... glad I got this monkey off my back after last years painful experience! With the dates change it might be difficult for me to fo the next one so I might aswell also anounce retirement and follow your lead
  18. Darts... a nice sport to set a target for yourself and throw everything at it!
  19. lol, I vowed to start slow this year after last years' disaster and maybe started too slow. When I saw the two monsters come past the group I was in, at a rate of knots I might add... I threw a hail mary and tried to latch on. It worked but when I realised who it was I was a bit star struck... I'm ridding with legends! It was such a lekker ride and I (for a change) had fun riding with great company, thanks guys! My legs have not been the same after that massage from Brendon... I can definitely confirm those are magic hands and propose a new tradition at DC for him to massage the whole team before the race so we can perform at our best
  20. My coach gave me intervals to do so I can probably manage a top 10 to the first WP looking at the timing of the intervals...
  21. As far as I know yes... going to Dr tomorrow for mine.
  22. I was watting it like Kulhavy last year ...for the first 3 hours ...then felt like I was dying a slow death ...getting weaker and weaker and weaker and weaker
  23. I probably started my decent from Rooiberg around that time... going down I didn't know if my hands was still on the handlebars or not as my fingers was also freezing... I just did the climb and was all sweaty so that did not help things at all going down. The wind chill factor makes it worse. I really had to take it slow cause I could not "feel" my brakes either. My minimum measured 2deg.
  24. Thanks! I actually got sorted today with some accommodation at the School of Skils. They had an opening for me. Thanks for the other PM's too guys! See you guys there! I'll be the guy mumbling to myself at the start "go slower this time, go slower this time..." and then rocket off at the start in all race mode throwing any race plan I had out of the window
