  1. I got a sub entry and now looking for accommodation (place is packed!!). If anyone knows about available options please PM me. Thanks!
  2. Entered this one, going to attempt it solo and see how I go. I'm not going to have support there and would need supplies/nutrition obv during the day. Will I need to keep that all in my car and work from there or is there a "feed/tech zone" thing where I can stash my coolerbox with my beer in?
  3. Exactly where my troubles started. I spent a bit of time at CP3 though and continued to the finish but to this day don't actually recall anything about that last 80km except for the tar road at the end which was heaven!
  4. GoPro Hero 3... a little dodgy and shaky from mounting it on my MTB most of the time but thought I would mount it on the road bike for a change. Pitty the battery doesn't last long even with an extra battery pack
  5. Biermans is no longer the course record holder
  6. All I get from this is that you will need to at least do it 2 times... once with a dual and once with a hardtail... to fully experience the different permutations of suffering that is on offer.
  7. Almost 2,5kgs in my case is not a very small penalty... Spec of the HT is far better. I do agree though, if you are going to sit on a bike for anything more than 18 hours you will be very thankful you have some suspension at the rear. I do recommend training wheels they put on for kids too... when you fall asleep on the bike it tends to want to fall over. Trust me, you can't close your eyes and think you are going to stay upright. Put these on at checkpoint 2, don't start with it... you will look like a numb nut.
  8. Ah hah... so what you are saying is that if more guys goes hardtail we will have better stats cause more guys will go faster than what they did last year and will get to a shower quicker All seriousness, I am also at a toss up which way to go. Did it last year with my Epic FSR but I have now got an Epic HT as an option. With all that climbing I am seriously considering using the HT. ...wait, I haven't even entered for 2018. I said never again after this year
  9. The course record is set on a hardtail... #justsaying
  10. Why does the site say "This year is the down ride. Don’t let that fool you. The winning times on the down ride is slower than the up ride." The route looks the same as last year?
  11. From email: All participants riding the full 361km, whether it be in the Solo category of the Team category, are obliged to fill in the below medical questionnaire: CLICK HERE Completed forms, inclusive of your doctor’s signature, need to reach our offices before Friday, 31 March 2017, at 12:00 midday. http://www.the36one.co.za/forms/36ONE-medical_questionnaire.pdf
  12. Got an extension, and sommer went to doc already. Don't know my blood group so those results only come next week.
  13. Ummm, oops! Is a doctors visit compulsory? I only see the email and the form now... I just stashed it for "later" when I got it and saw deadline for that is today at 12:00
  14. Yeah wanted to do it but I've been off the bike a bit with the travels and had to make a call and do an endurance race rather. Really enjoyed the XCO but wasn't really on my radar and it's always been 36One for me. Will join you guys again later the year though!
  15. Nice! Will see you there! I'm working on Carl to also join in the fun
  16. My first XCO was quite an interesting experience and totally different to the normal 60km+ races I do. Bit of a shock to the system and each lap contemplated suicide and/or planning my excuses when I finish to justify the fact that I looked (and felt) out of sorts a bit. With no valid excuse coming to mind, suicide seemed to be the only option and I took the plunge... failed dismally at dying and only went home with a few scratches on my knee and a broken saddle... I live to see another day but I'm glad... I enjoyed it so much that I'm contemplating returning for more!
  17. lol, ek wou nog weer gaan probeer het vir KOM as dit droog is maar nou gaan ek maar net probeer vir PB en myself n noddy badge gee. Flippen excellent Tiaan!
  18. Well that sux... life happens and we have to make the most of it I guess. Still drives me nuts that I trained correctly and really had a clear goal in mind and felt I was on my way to achieving it etc. You know what, I'm still going to go out there and give it my all. I feel this iconic race, and one for the history books, deserves that respect. Take it all in guys, this one is going to be talked about for a looooong time... (jeepers we needed a new flavour since the 2009 Argus )
  19. I always wonder how many celebs take part in this. Anyone spot any on the entry list? I quickly browsed but +-1400 names is a lot to "browse"
  20. In the FAQ's it says "Yes, there will be mechanical assistance at atleast 2 checkpoints." Being my first time I'd like to plan spares etc. Does any of the regulars know which checkpoints these will be or do they only tell us at the briefing?
  21. My finish time is 03:04:27... never saw a checkpoint where I had to tag. Only tagged at start then at finish The riders just in front or just behind me also doesn't appear on this checkpoint list.
  22. My first time but our official target is 15hours. I'm hoping we finish before midnight though
  23. I was told this race is not about courage to enter but its about crazy... sounds like it fits my profile First one for me, longest I've done is the One Tonner but that is on road and I think MTB will be a whole different story! Here is hoping that NW will sit tight until we start making our way back!

    Argus MTB

+1 on it being much better than last year. I enjoyed it a lot but also agree with the comment about jeeptrack being very slippery (maybe I just don't ride a lot of jeeptrack and need to work on that aspect ) Quite dusty and loose in some sections but overall it was really fun and very well organized! 2:56 for me, all I wanted was a sub 3 PS: my elevation 1590 on strava but on garmin in the 1300 somewhere, got really nervous during race as the km's got less to the finish but the climbing wasn't close to 1700 as they said in the beginning
