  1. The main thing is that I get to live in hope for a month! After that i'm either the happiest man alive or just a mostly happy man that helped my mountain (bike) brethren.
  2. One gets his 50th win and the other gets filthy rich. Win-Win Unless Conor wins... Mayweather has everything to lose, both his legacy and his record. Shame will brought upon boxing as a sport.
  3. I would get knocked out for $100 million...
  4. The next time I ask for help may be in the form of a fundraiser!
  5. Found a friend who will let me use his 56cm road bike 8week plan downloaded, will go to a VA with an indoor pool and sign up today, after a quick run! Thank you again guys! Thehub is always so helpful but this is on another level!
  6. One more thing please! What would be the smallest road frame that could potentially work for me? I ride a large MTB and i'm 1.83.
  7. It will be cheaper if they just took the bike part out of it! My bike is always crying for new goodies
  8. Thanks for the advice! So lend a road bike if possible, MTB will do if that doesn't work. If the bug bites hard then it's time to start looking for a proper bike better suited to the application. Time to start running again and to find an indoor pool!
  9. Thank you I will definitely try get used to it. If I can get a bike beforehand I will Suikerbosrand a few times first. Maybe even take my MTB saddle across to the skinny bike.
  10. I can lock out both ends but when I lock out the rear it's a bit bouncier. I ride a large frame MTB and I am 1.83. Would a 56cm road/TT bike be suitable if I manage to find a friend with a spare one. Maybe a smaller frame size on a regular road bike to get in that position. It is only 40km so I don't think I would need that much precision in the fit.
  11. I have done two off road ones in the past and i'm under 30 with dreams of an ironman one day. I have never had a road bike and I wouldn't want to ride on the road for training.
  12. So I have entered the Bela Bela 5150 and I have a quick question about the cycle. Would it pay to borrow or buy/sell a road bike just for the 40km? I have a 650b dual suspension bike only. I am only racing myself but I do need to beat a friend or 2! Will some extra training make up for what I won't have in gearing/aero/rolling resistance.
  13. Yeah I wouldn't go Conti's again. Tyres are the most noticeable upgrade you can do and I wouldn't make my choice to save R200. I'm not saying go out and spend 1200... Do your research for your area and your needs, find the ultimate tyres, and get them on a special if you are lucky!
  14. I have had a set before, normal rear and Xtrac front. They were decent but nothing to write home about. If you can get a set at a good deal or they are already on your bike I would be content!
  15. It felt really solid! It wasn't very predictable in soft sand but probably because i'm not used to it. I think it is because of the aggressive side knobs that really dig in. I didn't get to lean it over a lot but the grip on the side is there for when it's needed. The back was far stickier than my RR and I could hear the tyre on the tar without it feeling like syrup. Too soon to tell but i'm chuffed! There is a reason it's such a common combo and I think it will be perfect for Gauteng!
  16. First time doing the full event and it was by far the hardest ride I have ever done! Amazing day out and when i'm brave enough to enter again I hope to break 5 hours.
  17. Yeah I moved from Nobby Nic/Racing Ralph to Ardent/Ikon so should be similar!
  18. Ended up with Ardent 2.4 up front! Next ride push is the monster!
  19. But on Maxxis official site that doesn't exist? I think I will be happy with any Ardent
  20. I'm getting Ardent (race perhaps)/ Ikons put on my bike today from Ridgeway Cycles just in time for Monster
  21. Okay so no to Ardent race as a front as it only comes in 3C Speed even though it would be cool if all the little logos on the front and rear tyres match My info might also be wrong ("Please note that Maxxis no longer discloses our durometers as this is considered proprietary information.") Okay very interesting though thank you! Guess I will just have another excuse to buy more tyres "Research"
  22. Dual Compound – 51a/60a - A 51a rubber compound on the side knobs with a 60a rubber on the centre knobs. 3C Maxx Speed - 72a/60a/62a - These feature 72a rubber at the base of the knobs with 60a on the side knobs and 62a on the centre tread. This offers the lowest rolling resistance for cross country bikes. Okay yeah I just checked this, makes sense! Wouldn't the suppleness of it being 120TPI mean that it will conform over terrain at lower pressures and grip better even though the compound is slightly harder?
  23. Ardent Race max is 2.35 only Ardent is 2.4. You won't get the full benefit but it will still be better. My rims are 19mm internal as well.
  24. Thank you for this I would have missed it!
  25. I'm going for the Ardent Race up front. It will also be 120TPI and 3C speed compound just like your rear!
