  1. ummm..... if thats you, shot for sitting in the 3 man (chasing) break away for +/- 40km and doing sweet ****all until we approached town and riding away on freshish legs! Deep Section2009-06-01 02:33:52
  2. Nice Pics Ronelle, Thats me(junior vets)in the early break,we kept away until the 90km mark where unfortnatuley I burnt myself out due to a lack of training and 4 stitches on the ball of my foot. Well done to Neil (who i rode with) for fighting until the end.
  3. ? Jules' date=' like I said, I did DEEP thinking. I thought of that too. What's the big deal with that? 70% (a purely made-up statistic) of sub R15k mountain bikes come with Schrader valves in anyway. ? On my bike, I drilled the inside wall of the rim bigger than a Presta strictly requires, so that I can get rid of that silly bulge and have the valve seat deeper and evenly. ? ?[/quote'] Hi Johan, If i was to drill out my rim to fit a car valve would i have any issues if or when i decided to whip on a Stans rim tape/strip with a presta valve? if not what size drill bit did you use over the weekend?
  4. I have called the importers of Schwalbe tubes and they don't bring in any 20inch tubes. On CRC website it comes to over R200.00 for 2 tubes ( I am want to do it an inexpensive way). In this case Local will be cheaper.
  5. I have been wanting to do a inexpensive tubeless conversion for a while now. I have all the bits and bobs but i am in need of the main ingredient a 20inch BMX tube with a removable presta valve. I have called 10 shops in Cape Town but they all give me the same answer "20inch BMX tubes only come in a car valve" Can anyone advise me on where i can buy these tubes from? Thanks in advance
  6. Well done.It gets easier as time goes on. I kick the habit 5 years and 2 months ago.
  7. ? Cool' date=' I got dropped in last 500m because I dehydrated badly on Day 2. I could not push harder or work and I I just want to finish TDB. ? ?[/quote'] For sure i understand it was hard for you and you had nothing left in the tank. When guys are working upfront and you keep on giving a dead wheel it does not help with the flow of things.I understand that you wanted to finish and you needed to hang with the bunch until the end but look at it from my point of view. You are slowing everything down so you can hang on. Next time you must sit at the back and not mess with the flow of things.
  8. ? Listen to your piers' date=' MTB is king. And it's alot safer.[/quote'] ? I beg to differ. One suffers many many more falls in MTB than road. I tried MTB and fell 4 times in my first race and 2 in my second - none of them were my own fault ? On the road I have only had 1 fall in 2,5 years!!! ? Last year on a training ride on a MTB, I went over the handlebars and broke both hands and wore a neck brace for 3 months. ? Since then I have heard so many horrific MTB stories. ? Folks - MTB is DANGEROUS!! Stick to the road. ?
  9. I am number 34(one of colonel's men) any pics?
  10. I have used the recovery product "Recoverite" from HAMMER I used it for Ironman. it worked well for me.You can order online fromhttp://hammernutrition.co.za/catalog/index.php?cPath=1_7 or try your LBS
  11. Horrible news! 2 cyclist loosing there lives in Cape Town in such a short time. What are we to do? My deepest condolences to his family and friends.
  12. I would look for something second hand for this price, as the specs are bottom of the range. You would get a lot more for your money.I don't intend to hijack your post, but I am considering of selling my bike which is in mint condition for 19k full carbon (isp) with light wheels and Dura Ace,all the components are top of the range. So i truly think you will get more for your money going second hand. If you do go this route I would get a cycling friend to check out the bike prior to buying it. My 2 cents worth. 13. At the cobra the bunches where no bigger than 70(I think?)the Argus will have 4-8x that amount of riders. At least the riders who did the Cobra where from Cape Town and had some clue of the last section of Bouys drive is like. Just think of the thousands who have never been down that section of road or have never heard about it. It's going to be mayhem! Deep Section2009-01-29 04:43:48
  14. I am glad to hear Chappies maybe an option. My feels on Bouys Drive: f**king Crazy!
  15. Four Passes sounds great but the section on the N1 is a bit mental
  16. I am Glad she is okay.Thats on my usual route which i normally find pretty safe. I hope the new cyclist does not get put off by this incident.
  17. I know this is a little extreme but as a last resort you could cut through the pedal's axle as close to the crank arm as possible and with a Reverse thread drill bit it can be drilled out.I have not tried this at home.It has only been recommend to me by my LBS. Needless to say my pedal is still permanentaly in place in the crank arm
  18. Well I stand corrected the recommended retail price for this bike is R73250.00 and i see the electric Dura Ace you need to whack on a extra 10k which i admit it does not come close to 95k. Yes Willehond it is the SL with the ISP. The guarantee still stands on the product but yes it is a mission to send it back to the U.K to get it sorted. Okay so there is only a diffrence of 13k but it still gives me the sh*ts (smaller sh*ts than 35k)that we as South Africans are paying this much extra than someone who is living in the U.K. I Don't like to be taken advantage of in any circumstance and that is why if i chose this bike i would buy it form them so not to line someone pockets with an extra 13k.
