They always seem to reach you in the end... My experience has been around 6 weeks delivery time. If it is damaged in any way, CRC are pretty good with assisting.

The worst part is you probably had to also pay a R200 admin fee to DHL to do the clearing on the small spare part shipped separately!

That is the "Fedex" service where they just dump the package with the post office - Netherlands PO initially as with mine. Yours is probably sitting with customs in SA where the tracking won't be updated for 4 to 5 weeks and then SAPO will try to find a way to get it to you. In my case they sent it to the wrong post office in Cape Town and then lost it for 10 days while trying to get it the 30km to where it should be. I have suggested to CRC it is ridiculous charging that much to send something via the SAPO - if you have the same experience then please do the same and maybe one day they will listen.

Definitely frames or wheels but can't tell you what the criteria are. I have a set of wheels sitting with SAPO at the moment - ordered on 14 November. I would have paid for the premium shipping if I knew Fedex just co-ordinate the logistics using the cheapest service providers they can find (SAPO).

If it's a larger item then the free "Fedex" shipping actually ends up at SAPO so count on 4 to 6 weeks with a lot of unwanted stress. Small items are normally DHL and delivered 4 to 7 days with the free option.

Banhoek area definitely worth a visit. Garden Route MTO Trails - accessed from the Cairnbrogie farm near Plett - are a lot of fun. Great network of single track in a fairly small area with some nice single track climbs as well as descents. It links to Harkerville as well if you want a longer ride.

Is a DS a necessity - no Is it nice to have - yes A DS is much more forgiving and comfortable than a HT and they are just as fast on most courses as most events have become more technical. Buy a HT either if your budget dictates (a decent HT is better than an entry level DS) or if you just have a particular desire to be different to the crowd (this is why everyone who rides a HT feels the need to tell you that 😋).

The ultimate for me would be nice simple direction boards at intersections along the way showing which direction major trails are in and the distance to them so you know you're on the right route while riding. The map at the entrance is great to plan a ride but I'm generally lost 500m later irrespective of the format. For the purpose they serve, I find the full color satellite image is the easiest to understand.

On Saturday morning I was riding alone in Tokai and a small mistake put me face first in the dirt on Vasbyt near the quarry with more pieces of collar bone than I left home with. I couldn't get through to the Tokai MTB number so I had to walk/ride out. So many people stopped to ask if I was alright and offered to help which was incredible even though there was little anyone could do. Someone gave me his energy sweets which worked wonders with clearing my head for the walk! Three riders got to the end of Vasbyt/DH4 and then rode back up to check on me and then stayed with me the whole way down - it was really nice to have some company and to distract me from the pain! Thank you to everyone who helped or offered to help - it was really awesome and greatly appreciated!

Why does every person who rides a bicycle feel they are qualified to run a bicycle business? The distributors need to protect the image of their brands - if they don't know you and don't know what your store will look like then how can they know how you will represent those brands? They don't have any obligation to supply every single "bicycle shop" with their brands. Someone mentioned R8k as the "ridiculous" 1st order - I don't know if that is accurate or not but I hope no-one is complaining about an R8k first order! If you're talking R80k then even that only gets you the basics from most of the big brands. Arrange a meeting with someone from those distributors and ask them straight out what it would take to get an account with them - business plan; store plans; proposed store design; up front security deposit etc If you can't offer those then maybe you aren't ready to stock their brands just yet?

I see CRC coincidentally have bikes with very similar specs to that from a European brand that isn't supported here. The prices also appear materially lower than you are quoting. If that is more than a coincidence then why would someone not just order from there themselves? What value are you adding to justify anything more than an admin fee? Local support would answer that but you don't appear to be offering that. Keep in mind that everyone knows how to use Google so if someone can get it themselves for less than you are asking then you have to ask why they would pay you more.

I think I might have joined the hub before you so I am very well aware of that... The main difference is that the community was smaller - this is a business and they want more users so they can grow. This is an obvious outcome of that. The classifieds shouldn't be a source of cheap stuff - to me it has always been a place to offload your un-needed stuff to a willing buyer (the N+2?). I've also been looking out for months for a deal on an e-bike. I know I'm looking for a bargain - all my self-imposed budget allows - and I also know it will be snatched up the second it comes along and I might miss it (I probably already did and don't even know it!). The "dealers" have also been around for many years - that isn't new.

The classifieds is simply that - a place for people to advertise their goods with 1000's of prospective buyers. It doesn't need to be regulated and doesn't impact the value the discussion forums offer. If you feel you have a legal agreement or the seller has dishonored you and your family then call the police or hire a lawyer. A seller can choose who they sell to - if they want to sell to a reseller then they're welcome to. It is their bike so it is perfectly ethical and reasonable that they dispose of it as they wish. If this has happened to you so many times then maybe you're doing something wrong? You have stated yourself that you are actually going to check the condition of the bike out rather than to collect it - then you are not as committed as you might have suggested and the seller has a risk still. If you want something then make a plan to either pay for it or to go and see it straight away. I understand you're a little upset about missing out on a deal - we all would be - but don't lose sleep over it...

I have previously seen the parts from a bike reported stolen on here for sale a few days later (frame presumably disposed of). The detective on the case was happy to join me to meet the person and took the parts back. Not sure if the guy was arrested or charges were laid but the police were very willing to assist.

Depending on what you are covered for (all risks, theft etc), if you claim for a set of wheels and not the full bike then expect to receive 60% of the value and not the full value (any claim for a part of the bike would be paid proportionately). I guess that is what you are looking for so not an issue. People probably get upset when they claim for a R10k part and only get R6k less excess in return even though the item is insured for R120k in total. I'm not an expert but that is my understanding.

The prices are what they are because there is demand - if someone else is willing/able to pay more than you then tough luck. If no-one will pay the asking price then the price will have to come down. That's how economics work. Cycling is definitely not being "killed" - exactly the opposite in fact. And don't call someone a "tool" for responding to your question. His comment follows the exact same logic your question does so does that make you a "tool"?

If my calculation is correct (possibly debatable) then that equates to R1500 per year if you were to drive 20,000km. Mine stay on for the convenience factor over a Securi-Lid on a bakkie so I suspect they will have a smaller impact being behind the cab.
