  1. I've never heard ppl defend a shop/supplier so strongly... Is it not possible that Cycle Art do great work 99% of the time and (just like everyone else!) slip up on occasion. Nobody is saying they haven't done great work in the past, or will continue to do it in the future, but that they may possibly have made a mistake on this frame and should do something about it (as offered in their post).
  2. And apart from the prices, their service is incredible... my parts took 5 weeks to arrive (thanx customs!!!) and CRC was willing to send me a replacement order immediately, no questions asked (customs admitted to having the delivery the same day the replacement was meant to be sent)
  3. http://www.spinner-usa.com/e/aeris-pro01.htm. under 1200g fork... think they go for less than R4k on e-bay but there is someone on the hub selling them (I bought one of the other models), can't remember his name on the hub off-hand but will check... there are a few models in that weight range though so not sure which one I saw on ebay.
  4. Why not use the R11k to get full XT, some nice wheels, and a Reba on the GT? (Assuming you sell/save on the existing components)shaun2312009-03-27 10:00:08
  5. Sell the Fox and get one of those Spinner 1200g forks... save you lots of weight and probably make a profit.
  6. I think a buyer rating linked to a comments page on your profile should be created similar to e-bay. You will have a rating shown next to your name on the ad and a link to comments from buyers that explain their ratings and provide the seller the opportunity to respond - 1 brief comment per transaction, no further comments permitted. If you have more to say, then start an actual forum about it.
  7. Sent a few msg's but no reply... even sent a msg to another ad for the same bike from january when it was advertised for R60k but no word from that ad either. Most of the ads on gumtree are scams, not stolen goods. The person will have left the country and desperately need to sell it and the ridiculously low price incl.'s postage etc... I've tried contacting Gumtree's admin, but got a very polite msg thanking me for my concern and then the same ads reappeared the following day.
  8. Before you take my advice, please understand that I say no to pretty much every bike shop in CT (haven't been to a shop in JHB yet to find something to complain about) so probably not the most helpful person when it comes to recommending shops... And as far as spokes go, I've only ever broken 1 and was surprised when I was charged R50 5 mins later (might be just coz I'm cheap tho)...
  9. And don't take it to Cycle Lab! They charged me R50 to do that challenging task (and the spoke pulled through my rim 2 weeks later!) Granted the revealing top might help you more than it would have helped me...
  10. From my very limited personal experience, don't touch the Pinarello - their warranties are useless and their service is shocking (both in SA and from their HO)... Loved my Specialized since I got it, but as I say I haven't ridden much to compare it to. That Madone that's for sale is one of the best looking bikes I've seen tho...
  11. PM Merckx for the Easton's... he's in JHB, but still got an awesome price from him for my EA90's (no charge to get them to C.T.) and they come from the agents so no dodgy imports...
  12. Where in S.A. are you?
  13. I'm in CT and very keen to join this... Also been ripped off horribly in cape town far too often. Seems like JHB isn't as bad as CT from the little I've had to do with shops there. I was quoted over R9k for a set of Easton EA90 wheels in CT (from 3 different shops!) which I ended up paying R5500 for by shipping them from JHB.
  14. The choice on Fulcrums was based on CRC prices where they are similar to the EA90's, and the Racing 1's are quite a lot more. Looks like a set of EA 90 SL's is going to be on its way tomorrow morning (no stock of SLX's, but probably wouldn't hurt to get the slightly stronger wheels anyways and they look fairly similar)... Thanks for all the help guys. I really appreciate it (especially persuading me to not go with my heart and take the set of ES's!)
  15. lol, that is a pretty good advert for a wheel, but been offered a pretty good deal on the Easton's which is quite hard to refuse at this point as I need to make my decision and get the wheels in time to test them before the double century.
  16. You have to understand, I'm really clueless about these things, never had the need to replace my wheels, but now I am I'm looking for input from ppl who know a lot more than I do... I considered the ES because they would look good on my Tarmac and I'd seen a lot of them on the road, not because I knew enough about them to know if they would last or not. BTW... Thanks everyone for all the input, it's really not helping my decision too much as it sounds like they'll both be great wheelsets so think the final decision might just be based on the best price I can get.
  17. Ok, the mavic's are out of the question now... Are the SLX's durable enough for someone weighing 85kg's to ride for a few years or would it be better to go for the SL's which are meant to be stronger?
  18. Heard that from a few ppl now... Why do you say Fulcrum and not the Eastons? I've heard the fulcrums might be a bit more complicated for maintenance than the eastons? Looking for something to last me a few years hopefully.
  19. Still looking for opinions on these wheels... Nobody has mentioned anything to do with Mavics and yet every second bike in Cape Town seems to have a set? I've set my mind on the 3 sets I mentioned so just looking for opinions on which would be best.
  20. Had a look at them, but I have sort of decided to avoid Mavic as I'd like something a little different. I've also seen a few conflicting reviews on them - which might be purely because there are so many of them on the road - and I have yet to see a bad review of the Eastons or Fulcrums (granted that is in very limited searching)
  21. Any other opinions? Need to order a set today, but still undecided on what to go for so would appreciate any input. My decision is currently sitting at Fulcrum Racing 3 vs. Easton EA90 SLX (and if there is any genuine reason to put in the extra money to go up to Racing 1's)?
  22. They look awesome, but are about R1.5k more than the others unfortunately... I'm leaning towards the Fulcrums based on the reviews I've seen, just want to find out more opinions about their durability. The only thing about the Easton's is they appear to be about 200g lighter than the Fulcrums. I know they're a lot more than I said originally, but what is the difference between the Racing 1's and 3's like? Is it worth an extra R3k? shaun2312008-11-10 08:43:29
  23. My rear rim cracked yesterday and I figure it's time for a new wheelset. I'm currently looking at the Fulcrum Racing 3's, Easton EA90 SLX or possibly a relatively low mileage used set of Mavic Ksyrium ES. These will all cost me less than R6k which I've set as my limit. I need wheels that are relatively low maintenance and can be used for both training and racing. I know there are many people who think a custom build is the best option, but I've been riding Open Pro's on Record hubs for years and think it's time to try out some factory wheels. If it helps, I weigh 85 kg. Anyone have any thoughts on the wheels I've mentioned or any other alternatives? shaun2312008-11-12 06:23:40
  24. I've seen 2 bikes going through my rear windscreen before as I drove into a garage so I am all for rear mounted racks.
