  1. Mark. Can I suggest that you head on over there before going the route you suggest. I am not thrilled with the title of their threads, but have a look at some of the content. Some Ijit (LycraLoon) has been busy there.
  2. It doesn't look like their new site is working to well either. Return to index page General Error SQL ERROR [ mysqli ] Too many connections [1040] An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists. Powered by phpBB ? 2000' date=' 2002, 2005, 2007 phpBB Group [/quote'] It workssometimesand then stops for a bit. I have posted a few posts there.
  3. Thanks Scotty. I'm still a bit of a rookie wth stuff like this, so I 'precite the help. All the help I can get. Need not refer to it as a race, maybe an organised sponsored ride then?
  4. I agree with your sentiment on this one TNT. I read somewhere in a back issue of a bike mag, that the Argus has it's roots in being a protest ride, or that it started out that way. (I may be wrong.) Anyway, it hasn't done much to stay as a protest ride and it certainly hasn't reduced the number of cyclists being taken out by motorists. I might suggest that, due to the large number ofentrants, that the opposite isprob'ly true. More have been killed as a result of training for the Argus. Be that as it may, I want to help Captain slow raise money and have more signs put up. That simple. Another questioj is when would be a good time to hold such a race and can we do it over multiple cities?
  5. TNT. The idea of a race is not a Protest Race. The idea is to have a dedicated race to a) inform cyclists that there are rules b) to raise funds to have more signs put up in the hope that it will make a difference. c) any other reason that might make cycling / training safer. I accept you think it daft, thats your opinion. I'm trying to stand up and be counted in a positive way, without all the hatred and other crap we carriedaround yesterday. Fair nuff?
  6. Thing is Di, there is a lot of ill feeling around right now and ultimately, I would like the race to be highly visible to motorists as well as being a platform to raise funds for signs and highlight the rules to cyclists. So, if we include high population density areas like Sandton, will we not increase the frustration levelsofmotorists in general? Even partial road closure gets their blood pressure up. Given this, I though it might be better to have it in a quiter area. Then again, it is open to suggestion and thanks for yours.
  7. For my part in being one of the minority wooden spoons, I appologise for bringing any disrepute too this forum. Whilst I thought it was fun at the time, it just took a tiny bit of intelect to realise it was in fact childish in the extreme. This is my public appology to all my fellow hubbers. This morning as I lay in bed snorking my coffee, it occured to me that the best thing we can do about this is organise a Race. Protests are nothing more than a way of holding the economy to ransom and has far reachin effects on people who are not really involved in the us vs them debacle. So, Captain Slow, this is my idea (and I really would like some opinions on this one from all) We organise a Race for Signs. The proceeds to be used to have signs errected (which kinda ties in with your efforts and is possibly a way to raise funds. The entry form, to be signed by all entrants will carry a copy of the rules as posted in another (since delted) thread. I envisage that we can get sponsorship if we plan it correctly. I am hoping for input from some of the bigger players (Bike importers, Cycle Lab, Energade or Powerade, Pick n Pay, that sort of thing.) The route can be planned but my thoughts tend to be from say Nasrec, along the back of SBR to Heidelberg and then back to Nasrec but this is just an idea, open to suggestion and change. Your thoughts and comments please. (perhaps this needs to be in a thread of it's own. I'm not sure. Mods please move it if deemed necessary.)Slave2Love2009-02-17 00:20:11
  8. Yip, my typing ability aside, I have had all the fun I need for one day. Time to get out there and ride the bike. Such a lekker day too. Not to many things better than a good long ride. Adreneline and endorphins at the same time.
  9. Yes my Captain. I agree 100% with you. Problem is, we already have a right to use the roads. On the other side of the coin, we have dimwits who would deny us that right and even use questionable ethics and behaviour to wipe us out. I agree that we need to have compromise and forunately ( I think) that brain dead ijits are in the minority, (but hey it only takes one of them ijits to kill more than one of us.) So we get a petition to the DOT. Then they inform some brain dead motorists that we have rights too. That kind of thing happens once a year around december. They call it "arive alive". And still thousands of brain dead ijits wipe each other and innocent people out in the annual carnage run to the coast. I love the idea and salute the notion. Then you get the f****wits on another forum who just wn't see any form of logic. You think DOT is going to listen to us. That ******wit (See I even talk like it now). is exactly the reason why I think we should have a HUGE protest and hold an entrire city to ransom until the DOT actaully listen to us. We can casue HUGE K@K if we blockade downtown JHB for a whole day. Imagine the frustration levels of brain dead motorists then. We really gonna be popular. Protest I say, protest. It is not enough to have them hear our grievances, they have to act on ALL ijits who break the law. (Perhaps they need to cull some motorists as well, specially those brain dead halfwits we were speaking of earlier.)
  10. Jmac, check out my last post. I never threatened to shoot anyone. I merely stated that this was the only language that some people understand.
  11. Dick Tay tor quoted thus Dear Slave2Love, I had assumed from my limited interactions with scum such as yourself that this is the language of the commoners. In addition, the obvious lack of ability of the use of the English language on your site had led me to believe that to get my point across I would have to use words (and profanities) that a person of your ilk would understand. I have personally witnessed cyclists using obscene profanities to fellow motorists and pedestrians whilst disregarding the law. I could not be sure that you would understand what I was saying without the use of words that are such an integral part of your species. I am most interested and humoured by the continued threats of direct violence by yourself and others on your site. I guess this shows that my presumptions about cyclists' mentality was not misplaced. To whic my reply is: Don't flatter yourself. I was not making a threat, I was stating a fact. There are some poeple who have attitudes such as yours whom, I believe are not fit to be in a civilised society. Unfortuantely, the law and the constitution make it illegal to put people like you out of your apparent misery. The fact that we all understand expletives and profanity does not put us all on the same level. Perhaps one day you will understand that assumptions are the fother of all muck ups and you assuming that we are all the same is exactly that, a major, big league ballsup. It amounts to the same thing when we say that motorists are all brain dead. That is an incorrect assumption. There are a few decent ones, but when the likes of you make such utterly ridiculous statements, well let's just say that it truly exposes your lack of compassion and understanding. It shows me that you are one of those who should report to your nearest clinic to be put down. Your fancy words don't mask your lack of humanity and that my fine form "friend" puts you squarely in the animal class. Wait, I got that wrong, animals have more compassion for their fellows that you. I withdraw that compliment. Slave2Love2009-02-16 07:32:25
  12. Alida. Killboy was about the only one who actually made a point using any form of intelligence. As for some of them, they were so full of *****'s that it was very difficult to understand (unless you happen to have swallowed an epxletive dictionary for breakfast. Serious intelligence coming from that world. Then we wonder that some motorists just don't know how to drive. Used to be there was a minimum requirement. (You had to have a brain and it had to work.) How some things change and not always for the better.
  13. Apparently they love my sig. Cool hey? Wonder how long it'll take for one of them to knock it off. Wait, they have car badges for sig's. That's original. Kida like a bragboard. 'K so I'll change mine to 900 year old Penny Farthing. hahahahahah. Dimwits.
  14. This from "the Mighty Dictator" on the formum of the brainless. Wow. I?ve read a bit of that thread. Some of these idiots actually think it?s ok to ride 2,3,4,5 abreast so they can chat. **** the other road users. That?s a good attitude to have. Imagine if all motorists thought it was ok to drive next to each other on roads with windows down to chat to each other. You are either ****ing training or you are socialising. If you need to chat go to the pub or wherever the **** this species of human congregates. Edit: Listen **** for brains, you have NO RIGHT to ride 5 abreast. It is against the rules. It has nothing to do with being polite or courteous. It is against the bloody rules so don't get your lycra panties in a knot when people hoot at you to move over. Edit2: So the more I read the more it becomes clear. It is ok and not arrogant to ride 2-5 abreast or whatever and not move out of the way. But it is arrogant to hoot politely so that the cyclists move out of the way into a single file. Wow, that is some great mentality. The mind boggles. I can't even begin to try and have a civil discussion with people that think like that. I hope those particular riders die as soon as possible because they are a waste of oxygen. So how exactly does one get through to someone who can't make a point without expletives? If it's language is so impaired, you can only imagine that Darwin has been at work or the carbon monoxide fumes have rendered him somewhat brain dead in which case, you cannot have an itelligent debate. Like I said, battle of wits with unarmed ijits. So perhaps we have to adopt the same attitude and wipe them out. Only thing is, and I guess it's just too stooopid to realise this, when you fight fire with fire, you both get burned. Waste of time and intelect dudes. It is however, as they suggest, very "inciteful to violins". Only thing someone like that will understand is 95 grains of lead. Slave2Love2009-02-16 06:49:05
  15. TNT. Patience is not all it takes to avoid and accident. It takes a little thought (only a little mind you) as well. Anticipation is also a good way of preventing many accidents as well as a modicum of respect. Now that is a quality that I have seen too little of lately. Sure there is some, but there needs to be more from both sides. Point I made earlier is that though processes and stuff like that have been dropped from our education systems, especially driver ed. Licences are too easily obtained. And one more thing, there is a great big (HUGE) difference between murder, culpable homicide and an accident.
  16. Say, waht do you cal a car forum member who has two brain cells. Answer: rocket scientist/ genius. I was equally appalledby the lack of inteligent debate on thet thread. I'm looking forwar to picking a fight with the fooligans, or would that just be a battle of wits wth unarmed "people"?.
  17. KDEE. I have to assume that you are also a motorist when not riding a bike. I love to ride next to my mate and chat, but let's face it. It is absolutely not necessary to ride two abreast, especially when there is no emergency lane wide enough to do that. Most times, I think, motorists ger peed with us because we also have the same "forkjou houding" as they have. They in a hurry to get somewhere and we are out joyriding, chatting to our buds and we often refuse to give way. I have often seen cyclist from the seat of my car, riding two abreast in the road and giving the middle finger salute when you give a short hoot to draw attention to the fact that they are blocking the road. Admittedly, if it was a truck, it would have nowhere to go and we would be forcedto wait until we can pass it safely. Then again, is the expectation of motorists that we ridein single file. Not an unreasonable expectation and it would be polite to move to the side of the road so that a motorist can pass. There is wrong stuff on both sides of the coin, but that is so irrelevant. Car Vs Bike. We come second every time. We owe it to ourselves and fellow cyclists, to be courteous and polite and not offer ammunition to the other side. I be the first to admit that I am guilty of transggression of the rules and I will make it my mission to ensure that I never do that again. Like Ghandi said, be the change you want to see in the world. So, it starts with me. I'm taking the first step. Who else is with me?
  18. Leopards just can't change their spots. A dumbass hillbilly will always be a dumbass hillbilly. (Just look at me.)
  19. Wait for me TNT. I wanna join in. Maybe this is where we cans stand up an be counted.
  20. Yeah TNT, Sounds like you. And if I remember correctly, you just kept doing stuff like that. Always were a slow learner.
  21. BTW Captain. I see a few of the signs are "down". Wnet past one on Klipriver the other day. Close to the Panorma SC on the road North (towards Glenvista / Mondeor) Please don't misinterpret what I'm saying. Your efforts at having those signs put up is commendable. You have made a very positive effort where some of us (myself included) just sit around whinging and you have done far more than many. We still have some very errant attitudes to deal with (as mentioned in my thread on "That hooter thing - again") I am not saying that all of the cyclists are angels and obey all the road rules, but merely that we all have to adjust attitudes and we all have to compromise. Also, with the Argus around the corner, there are a lot more cyclists on the road. Once the Argus is over, many will put their bike back into mothballs and only bring them out to start training for the 94.7. Statistically, this means there will be less incidents, but even one, is one too many. I remember as a kid, we used to all go to the local "traffic park" as part of school / education and get on bikes, ride around a track and we had to stop at the stopstreets, traffic lights, wave our arms to indicate etc. etc. Does this till happen? I don't think so. Now kids "learn" road saftey from their parents and judging by the way some drive, that is a scary thought. This bodes ill for future road "users" (more like road "abusers".) I know of one such place in Bedfordview, but it is not widely used (in my understanding) and parents take their kids there. Unload the bike and sit and read the paper / book or whatever and the kids run around doing their own thing. (See they learn this k@k houding from a young age.)
  22. Spot on PI. It is after all, all about attitudes. Speeding has become a "socially acceptable crime"and I have often heard fellow workers, friends and others bragging about how fast they went the other day, night, whenevva. The sooner this attitude changes, the safer the roads will become. I tend to try and ride closer to the edge of the road, the higher the speedlimit. For example, Swartkoppies has a pretty wide emergency lane and the Speed limit (not well signposted) is 100 km /h. That makes the speed differential between me and the motorist about 70 kph's. A big diffs. So I ride closer to the shoulder of the road as far away from the motorist lane as possible. This unfortunately only works where you have an emergency lane. On the Allewynspoort road, the speedlimit is also 100 and there is no shoulder. The risk on this road is therefore much higher. We are forced to be closer to high speed motor vehicles and many matoroist speed like mad on this road. Incidentally, never, ever seen a speed trap on this road. Motorists speed because they know the chances of being cought are negligable, and even if they do, they just oay a couple of ZAR and they are on their way again, doing the same thing. Captain, marvelous protest you have there. Nice and silent. You think your one entry is going to make a big difference? Maybe we need to have thousands more join you before you make your point. The race organisers feel less if one or two hundred have the same protest as you. Increase the numbers a hundred or thousand-fold and maybe you stand a chance. I'm not saying you are wrong. I am merely questioning the effectiveness of your stance / protest.
  23. Funny (funny peculiar) how it always seems to be the dimwit fraternity with the "fokjou houding" that ruin things for the majority. Problem Delgado and others is that confronting these loons doesn't help. I like the idea of bibs and I have a couple of ideas as to policing the routes that we can chat about Muxie. Perhaps if we can give the park managers an undertaking that we will abide by the rules at the risk of a life-ban, they will be willing to negotiate. Personally, I have only been on a bike, in the reserve once (for a short bit), before we bailed and got in the car. I would count it a great pity if they do ban us permanently. I would love to ride there again when I am fitter and able to do the entire route. The issue is that we are not all right / correct in our behaviour, but by the same token, there are hooglian motorists that also case K@K in the reserve. However, it doesn't matter who is right and who is wrong. We need to change our attitudes and then we may be able to convince park officials that we can make entry conditional upon some form of membership (Seasonal cards) and then it will be easier to police. As Scotty and others have said, it is such a great place to be, hill training and the chance to do some game watching at the same time. BEEEEG bonus. BTW, how many of us have made an effort to clean up after the sh!thead cyclists before us have dropped their goo wrappers and water bottles. Maybe park management can have bibs made and we (upon prrof of ID) can use them while in the park for identification purposes, then hand them in before we leave. A closed circuit TV monitor can then tell the gate guards that we have not tragressed the law and are thereforefree to enter again in future. Let's face it. With so many loons running around with guns and other sh!t today, are we qualified to deal with errant members of our breed? Personally, I wouldn't want to be bliksemmed or shot as a reward for doing something that is good for our reputation and the environment. Can we really police those fools that ruin t for all of us. There are a number of ways that management can monitor the bahaviour of all and then sort out the wayward fooligans, whether staff, motorist or cyclist.
  24. Bullbar. I agree with a lot of what you say. However, for those I disagree with: Speed checking a selected sopts only reduces motorist speed at selcted spots. People will only slow down for the camera and then speed up again. What benefis is that? Visible policing, yeah, I agree, but that is also only so effective. Other motorists flash light s to warn of speed checking and everyone slows down until they pass the spot, then we know what happens next. I ado agree with the zero tolerance attitude and it should be adopted by all metropoles. Driver training and education though is the only effective long-term solution. Attitudes of both drivers and cyclists have to change. I believe that we as Saffies (South Africans) are far to aggressive and arrogant on the roads. "nother thing, you think you can get 35000 cyclists to boycott the Argus. It would send a very clear message, but to whom? So, TNT, when are we going to "stand up and be counted?"
