  1. Dobby, I have not read any of the replies to your question so I may repeat some or allof what others have said so bear with me in my ten zim dollars worth. I do this sort of thing all the time. If someone passes me, then I figure I'm not riding hard enough and need to increase my effort. If I still get beaten, then it is by a better cyclist. I have no issues with being beaten by someone who is clearly a better cyclist or fitter than I am. That means (to me) that I have to improve if I want to be better so I have to train harder. Racing aainst someone up a hill is really cool. It adds a hill acceleration routine to my training, instead of just plodding along. Chasing down that cyclist in front of me makes me work harder and adds a speed interval to my training. All this is to improve myself and not to prove anything to the other person. It is for me to prove something to myself. Since I started doing this, I have increased my fitness and overall cycling ability and I still consider myself to be a social cyclist. I just want to be a better cyclist and improve myself. How better than to test my strength against another. We train to race so why not race while training? Racing is not a steady ride at a steady speed. There are speed intervals when a front rider may try to break away from a group. If I can stay there, I have a better chance of doing a better race time.
  2. Is the voting closed already? I'm foncused. (nothing new) I tried hard to make an "X" but it just keeps coming out as a "." Does that mean my vote won't count?
  3. So you left your stuff at home. What would you buy on race day of it was available? Would you pay slightly more because it was convenient and available / necessary. If option not available above, what would you buy?
  4. You've trained and the day arrives, you get to the race only to find youv've left an important item at home. What have you left at home / lost / found damagedon the bike. Would you buy the item if it was available at the race venue? Would you haggle if the price was above retian (say 10%) bearing in mind it is conveniently available?Slave2Love2009-04-29 00:24:43
  5. 'k, I'll rephrase" Jullie, infantile male, doesn't need Nandos to ...." (Unless of course he's actually a girl.)
  6. We all know what the original was like and I think the new one rocks just as much. The satire is brilliant. BTW, Julie boy doesn't need Nandos to make him seem like an AH. He manages quite well all by himself. PRAT.
  7. Agteros, these rides (Circus and Rietvlei) are in our area. Rietvlei would have some hills, but not to sure about the circus area. I recall that being pretty flat. Loads of farms / plots around the area, so I think most rides will be offroad (Not on blacktop) but maybe not quite so challenging. I stand to be corrected though and the circus is pretty close to SBR and we all know there are a couple of small hills around there.
  8. Just a quick counter riposte, Tituse (and no offence intended). None of these things have been arranged in our area and I'm afrain the cape is a long commute for me. All I wassuggesting is that someof us local sothern Guateng boys will take it upon ourselves to get involved. Fair 'nuff?
  9. Think nothing of it Nuwbie. Most of us don't, so we'll be in "good" company. AFAIK, the whole event is supposed to be that we cyclists, commute on this particular Friday but we do not wear cycling kit, just normal work clobber. Going to look helllllllllll - uva funny for the dudes who have to wear suits. So maybe next month, we arrange to meet here at BC and then Ride into Alberton city centre, climb into your cars and then head off to the office. Would have been cool of we had remembered today beacuse eath day was earlier this week. Like we need to dedicate a day to earth, we need to change our lifestyles and start looking after mother earth. It will suck if we have to live on Mars. Immagine starting a cycling club there.
  10. Nuwbie, it's supposed to happen in all the major centres (Cities) of the world. In SA, though, I don't think enough planning goes into it so no-one really knows where or (as I have only just found out, When.) Thanks Dirt-Gril, NOW I know it is the last Friday of every month. Does it happen in Alberton? Not sure, I guess that means, it's up to us to see that it does happen in Alberton in future. In fact, I have never seen it happen anywhere, ever.
  11. The gang I ride with are going for about 90 k's out on the road before we hit the polling station. Hopefully by then, everyone will be done for the day and I can go home and have that nap I always need after a ride.
  12. Dude, thanks for the 9 Speed STI's and casette. They will be used very soon and BTW, Walter is over the moon about the cycle computer. Says to say thanks a ton.
  13. GFishy, how can you say that "it is not a SA style to protest." Who do you think invented and perfected "die vakbond vastrap?" (the toi, toi)
  14. There are a couple of "Stand-up" hubbers around here. I agree Delgado is one of them.
  15. Thanks all. (I was secretly hoping that I could get away with the chain replacement.)
  16. My good cycling buddy (Greyowl) has donated me a set of 9 speed shifters (Shimano) for my bike which is currently configured for 8 spped Shimano. Other than Shifters and cluster, what other mods do I need to do to convert to 9 speed. Do I need to change my chain, freehub all that sort of stuff? Advice Please. JB, you seem to have the guru status, your opinion will be valued. (anyone else, I need help.) Thanks.
  17. Yep, we all want the flower power boys to do it, but Oz are a gritty and determined opposition. They may surprise us yet. (Hope not.)
  18. Now we know the flower boy have won the series. Who's gonna win the last game at the Bull Ring? I vote the flower boys will pull it off.
  19. And for some, it's a big number. Consider this: Youth is not a time of life - <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> It is a state of mind, it is a temper of will; a quality of the imagination, a vigour of the emotions; a predominance of courage over timidity of appetite for adventure over love of ease. Nobody grows old merely by living a number of years. People grow old by deserting their ideals. Years wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.
  20. Xumbugs @ 7:00 Will prob do the cheesefactory loop' date=' get back and do the short loop in reverse, climb buthers and through glenvista/rosettenville back to meyersdal vacinity. [/quote'] Hey, Hobbit club Member, take a gander over here. This will explain what we doing Friday. Bring those polished cattle of yours down to Xumbugs at 06H50 to 06H55 on Friday morning. You can meet some of the gang and some new members to be inititated and be introduced to our new world of pain. For the rest of the weekend, I have a suspicion I am in need of a rest ride on Saturday so will be at Xumbugs again at 7. Sunday, will prob'ly go for another ride and Monday, I think I might be in ICU for a long rest period. Like I told you, check out our thread and you can get up to speed on whassssup. Edit: https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=37434&PID=743221#743221 Dude from the hood, just follow the last few page.Promise, you dont have to read all 100 odd of them, but if you keep your eye on the thread, you'll see if we have any special busses to ride on the weekend. So, get out of your "'Kassie" on Friday and come into a new world of pain (en leiding.) We have some serious fun. That race up the steps is good for you.Slave2Love2009-04-08 08:13:55
  21. he said athletes And you are qualified to "diss" me as not being an athlete, how? Because I don't do track events that are athletics based? Or are you jusy being obtuse?
  22. Not sure if I qualify for the criteria but I can like to volunteer. I have tried various energy supplements, (all the legal stuff) and have not found anything yet that I can claim "works for me." I have no objection to advertising as long as you can accept an honest evaluation of the goods one the program is over. I will happily supply constructive and honest feedback on a regular basis or when required. I'll guinea pig anything legal and do whatever advertising necessary by way of photo shoots, and product evelauation. Currently my only fitness activity os cycling and I'm doing around 250 k's per week. It seems energy replacement is the barrier to doing more.
  23. MTB. Joe is faulty, seriously. To be sure though, he is a cool character. Very good company on a ride. Just something wrong with the circuitry to do the sort of distances he does. When I grow up, I wanna be like Joe Low.
  24. Ah, a dude form the hood up to no good. Just follow that link I posted on page one and you can see what we cooking up for our weekend rides. If there is no special ride, then the bunch leave Xumbugs (Corner Kliprivier Drive and Swartkoppies) every Saturday and Sunday morning. Come and join us. Just remember to intrduce yourself when you do. Believe it or not, I'm the "sane" one.
