  1. Psssst. Di, Heard a rumour that there was quite a beeeg race on Sunday. Maybe your timing's a bit off for this ride. I think there will be a large contingent of hubbers doing the Sunday ride and maybe that will limit the number of takers. Of course I always open my mouth to change feet so I could be wrong.
  2. TNT. Would kitten be a more fitting desription? People think you're so full of it, they just don't understand that wacky sense of humour and the little boy inside crying out to be loved and accepted. Yip, I did fail psyche 101.
  3. For my 5 cents worth, I agree with Mux. SBR is a nature reserve and it should be treated with respect (BY EVERYONE). So maybe there are only a few who abuse the privelledge that has been extended to us, but it only takes one rotten apple to spoil the barrel. This is just my friendly request to the guys who do cycle there, please to obey the rulesand keep the goddwill going so that we can all enjoy even infrequent rides in the reserve. This is not about you, this is about conservation and combining two passions, (one of conservation and one of cycling) is truly something of great value. If we do get chucked out of the park, then we will have to go back to riding the Lido routes and fighting with loons for a bit of space on the roads so that we can exercise one of our passions. (Cycling). It is not sool to be a moron. And just for the record, "Never have a battle of wits with an unarmed person." Mux, might I suggest that when you chat to the guys who manage the park, that they get the gate attendants to hand a copy of the rules to the cyclists, that they get the cyclists to sign acknowledgement of the rules having been read and understood. That way, we educate thosein the wrong 'cause clearly, they have a problem of understanding. Then when they trangress the rules, it is not because of a lack of knowledge. Penalise and ban the arrogant @ssholes so that those who are willing to abide by the rules can continue to enjoy cycling in a safe and pritine environment. That is such a bonus.
  4. Me. Pick me. You okes go on about 'bout TNT. He's a pussycat.
  5. Sorry' date=' but I'd watch just to see Albie smash the sheep shaggers ragged. It seems they lost all ability to handle a ball as soon as he took them on. [/quote'] hehe - you really want to give away the whole plot don't you Go home watch the game. No matter that Albie and JP put the oz bowlers to the sword. It was close game worth watching. SA will probably win that game too, but let me know if there is a different outcome this time.
  6. Thanks JB. I will cease and desist my use of Q20. Would castor oil work? (JUst kidding). I'll switch to motor oil.
  7. Please share some of your wisdom with me. Have a 20yo friend, newby to cycling. He wants to enter the fast one and wants to know what group he should enter under. eg. Seniors, juniors, ect. Thanks fellow hubbers.
  8. Hey, dick's a useful thing. First someone insults the primates, now they insulting dicks. Gazonka nut might be a more fitting description.
  9. I don't know if it was one and the same who handed down this jusdgement. All I Can say with any real authority is that the criminal justice system is far too complicated if it can allow ALL the loopholes that are being exploited. Makes me believe that the alleged crime was committed knowing that effective prossecution and sentencing would be all but impossible. Still begs the question: If he is as innocent as he says, why not just go to trial? Methinks he must be terrified of that scenario and that's why all the legal wrangling and manouvering.
  10. For someone who prefesses his innocence, JZ is trying very hard to keep his case out of court. One would think he is trying to hide something.
  11. Check this out and remind we why we pay tax to employ dummies. http://www.news24.com/News24/South_Africa/News/0,,2-7-1442_2451708,00.html
  12. er...., so then q20 (not the spray-on, the light machine oil) is no good for my chain. I should switch to motor oil? If it is designed to lubricate engine bearings, piston rings and all thatother engine stuff at high temperatures' it has to be good enough for a bike chain that runs at about 30 degrees C. Edit: Will castor oil work as a substitute?Slave2Love2009-01-09 08:10:09

    Degreasing

Di. I use an ordinary water based engine degreaser. So far I have not noticed any ill effects on the paint and it gets the bits clean. I do not use it anywhere near wheel hubs and Cranks or other place where grease is always needed. I find it preferable to soak a cloth in it and then run the chain through it. Wash of with a wet rag and re-oil the chain. Use another rage to "run" between the teeth of the rear sprocket to get the old oil / lube off and replace wheel.
  14. 1/ Any subject about nipples is likely to be the most popular. 2/ JB is cranky when he needs castor iol.
  15. You see groucho, I would never have thought to do a search on crank arms since I ride the bike with my legs and the crank arms are attached to the pedal which are opperated by feet. Sounds like you need more than just castor oil. Maybe a new cankset. Please forgive me for being foncused. It tends to be a permanent state with me. I'll get my hat and leave now.
  16. On this subject, one of the group that I ride with on Saturdays asked me what crank length I have. They are 175 mm and he said that with my height I should be running 180 mm cranks. This true? Logically, if I run longer cranks, my legs have further to travel for each revolution and although I will get more power, I will have a speed problem, so this makes no sence to me. Anyone have any ideas?
  17. TNT. IT IS NOT 900 years old. Ok, maybe 850 but I would like it to last another few years before it goes out to the great bicycle happy hunting ground.
  18. This is just a guestimate, but seeing a pic on the hub yesterday, I would say they end up in Holy Roller's lounge dude. He has more bike bits in his place than my LBS. Looks like BBi runs a very distant tenth place. I am still looking for a 61 cm plus frame (Road) so anyone who has a castoff old bike looking for a home. I will give it some TLC and restore it to a usable road bike. Similarly, I am trying to interst my SO that she needs to do this cycling thing and I'm lookig for about a 52 to 54 cm bike for her to potter about on. She will ever get serious so I don't want to throw any money at something she will drop faster than I get dropped on a hill.
  19. 'K so yesterday arvie, I was really doff and went for a ride. I got caught in a heavy cloudburst type thunderstorm. I got soaked but that was easily solved with a towel when I got home. The bike, well, different story. Other than cleaning the chain, the break blocks and the frame, what sort of maintenance do I need to do? The idea here is preventive maintenance and I have already promissed SO that today I will rest so I guess it is faff about with the bike day. (Hey, I need something to keep me out of the house for secveral hours seeing as though I won't be riding. Do I have to get into all the BB bits like wheel and crank bearings and re-grease everything? Do I have to take off the tyres and makse sure no water is in there? I am clueless on this one.
  20. Ok IanC, so here's an idea. What is the combined weight of you and your bike when you set out for a ride? See, I tip the scales at a mere 100 kg, the bike an extra 13 and the bottles another 1.5. That's like 114.5 excluding spare tubes (2) tyre levers (3 X Nylon (gotta save weight cause I'm a weight weenie)), pump, punture kit and spoke spanner. Let' see how many honest answers you get now, 'specially from the tender gender.
  21. Around 12 to 13 kg (Road bike). Yip, really old steel frame.
  22. You'd be lucky to only pay 5%. They mostly come in around 8% and yes, you have to pay VAT on the commission.
  23. Like THAT'S gonna happen. Care to share some of that sh!t you're smokin' dude, it's obviously good stuff. Only the price of petrol falls, and that very rarely. Everything else just keeps going up and then holds steady for a bit and then next time the fuel price goes up, so does the price of everything else. It's called "screw the consumer."
