  1. This is bad news indeed. Puffies and thives in one place. I think most opportunistic thieves will know that your ride is going to last a while and this gives them their "window of opportunity". It does however shoot down one theory. Puffies are not good anti-theft devices.
  2. I replaced my headset bearing a couple of weeks, maybe 6 weeks ago and the things are already pitted. How long should these things last? No, I do not ride like a hooglian and most times, try to keep my bike on the road since it is not a MTB. I had one off road excursion on Sat trying to avoid coliding with my fellow cyclist in front of me, but it was a short excursion and the gravel was not bad enough to give me any punctures (snakebite) wheel damage or any other side effects(Pun intended). This is very inconvenient as I will now have to replace them again. The alst set was obviously pitted from the time I aquired the bike and I assumed that this was the way it was supposed to be. I changed them based on some info I got in this forum and for a while all was well. Now it looks like I will have to do this work all over again. RATS.
  3. AKA purple headed yoghurt slinger.
  4. As a "poefter roadie", I try to greet everyone within reason. If I see ya forst, I'll wave first. If you wave first and I see ya, I'll wave back, unless it isgonna cause me to lose my balance and wobble and weave all over the road. However, I do have to say that at most time while I'm out riding, I don't often see other riders 'cause I'm just too busy concentrating on what I'm doing. So if you don't see me wave back, it aint personal, has nothing to do with your rig or if you are friend or foe. I do think all cyclists belong to this "secret brotherhood" and maybe we aint all friends, but we are all doing the same thing and that gives us common ground and a good reason to be polite to one another. Just smile and wave, or was that a grimace?
  5. One-eyed trouser snake. Habitat. Found in all known geographical areas of the world. Inhabit mens trousers and other garments worn by men ranging from loin cloths to kilts. Identification: Vary in size and are very rarely examples are known to reach around twelve inches. Average size is around six inches. When aggravated they become agressive and are known to attack women in the lower front abdoment although recorded to attack men in the lower rear abdomen as well at times. The venom is not usually fatal but there are some documented cases of fatalities. In women, the symtoms are usually identified as morning sickness, followed by abdominal swelling which increases in size, followed by excrutiating pain after nine months. Babies usually follow this pain and afterwards, the swelling goes down markedly. When teased they capable of spitting. Care should be exersied particularly by men when confronted by this beast as fatalities are becoming more and more common. Antidote: Escape is the best know cure although antidotes vary from snake covers to medication which should be taken daily by women in particular.
  6. No Speed Devil, that was the one-eyed trouser snake.
  7. Frogs tase like tsieken too.
  8. Hey bust great practical advice there. Only thing isif you're out there on your MTB, you're gonnalook helluva funny elevating your leg if you get bit by one of these nasties. Few years ago, we were up in Kruger National Park and I almost stepped on one when I got outa the car at Punda Maria. They are scary criters.
  9. Smaakie tsieken nie. Tsipies is lekka.
  10. Will give new meaning to snake-bite on your tyres man. What makes puffies dangerous is that they are "lazy" and rely on theri camoflage (spelling) for concealment rather than slither away when danger lurks. Most people get "but" because they don't see the things and stand on them. That's one of the reasons I'm a poefter roadie.
  11. Red bull and Russian water is a mental orgasm dudes. Alchohol is a central nervous system depressant and the caffiene in red bull is a central nervous system stimulant. Confusion reigns supreme after one or several of these. BTW, red bull does nothing for me either. Like Samma, it is more likely to put me to sleep than give me any energy. Hey Samma, know why they call it a suitcase? After a few of these, man you just pack your bags and leave.
  12. Other night they said on the news that petrol prices were coming down a record R1 some change. Right! Forgot to mention that it went up faster than the space shuttle Endeavour and higher too. Seems to me that the price decline is a tad slow by comparison, as in slow with a capital "F". Also noticed that the price of coke seems to go up just as fast a petrol but have never seen it some down. They just have the odd special to get rid of excess stocks every now and then, but the prices stay up there. Same as everything else.
  13. Could also be that the unit is not making proper contact. Had an old Cateye 6 long time ago and the unit started this crap. Turned out the points were not making proper contact and so the reading was erratic.
  14. That would be one way to look at it. Stuff will probably get "lost" in our very efficient postal services. Another thing to consider will be import duties and taxes (VAT) etc. If you only import a couple of things, you should have no issuse, but when you syndicate and import more and more stuff, you will get stung eventually for all the "hidden" costs (import duty, customs and excise and all that rot.) You may just find Mr. Customs official knocking on your door wanting to get his fair share outta you, so be careful and factor this into your syndicate.
  15. Forking madness.
  16. Hi fellow hubbers. I am negotiating to get a Trek frame to build up my new ride. (Roadie) I read something on the Trek bikes website and it raises the concern that the frame geometry is such that the toe of my shoe is likely to make contact with the front wheel while pedalling in a slow, tight turn. Is this true? Anyone ride a Trek who can give me any kind of indication as to the bike road stability, hadndling characteristics, frame rigidity? Frame in question is a 1500, I think 2005 model with alu frame and carbon front forks. Is it a reasonable bike?
  17. I agree with Mampara. Doing my own maint is a great way to get outta the house and at least I know exactly what is being done to my bike. It may be old, but it is still in great nick.
  18. Now my aspirations are going backwards. From being a bike, I want to be a tricyle now. Damn I gotta get me an invite to roller for supper.
  19. I am not sure what make Shimano I have, but it is an 8 Spd. I have changed the 12t to an 11t cog and it works just fine. Did the change sometime in the past two weeks. If you do change from a 12t to an 11, you have to change the lockring.
  20. Sigh, wish I was the bike frame.
