  1. Gamkapoort also a very interesting place, it's next to "Die Hell", rode there a few years back alone and turned around as there are no cellphone signal if something happens to you. There are no one there for miles!
  2. I will need a water tanker to follow me.
  3. Planning on visiting Boplaas in the feature for a day or two and would love to get some video footage of the area, especially Die Leer and then later some of Bosluiskloof Pass.
  4. I counted (well i tried, almost impossible) about 7 passes going in there. Elands Pass drops 579 meters into the kloof in only 4.7 kilometres, that’s insane! What makes it worse is the condition of the road e.g. a mixture of big + small marbles or sharply pointed rocks all over the place, falling rocks or rock slides, corrugation, holes, wash-aways, very longs stretches of narrow road, the steepness, the heat (and cold and wet when a front suddenly moves in), the wind, huge drop-offs/cliffs, other vehicles (had to watch ahead so that you could hopefully find one of a very few spots to wait and get passed, without being bumped down a rockface) etc. Sadly i didn’t spend much time in the kloof as i wanted to get the hell out of there as fast as i can as i was worried i wouldn’t be able to.
  5. Definately on my bucket list so to speak, is to ride the To Hell & Back (two day event) one day. My attempt at showcasing Gamkaskloof "Die Hel" the way I saw it a week ago when we drove there (2nd time I've done this). The road was in much worse condition as before. Want to capture the whole stretch towards Elands Pass on video as best I could and limited time we had (more videos to follow), so sped up the video which you could easily pause if you want to have a better view of a certain point in time frame. Some valuable lessons learned regarding better shots I could have taken with the drone, would also like to invest in a 360 camera as well as a MUCH faster pc to render and edit more than a TB of video data! So I'll share it here for those who are interested or planning a ride or drive there. Huge respect to anyone who have ridden in and out of there!
Not sure if anyone shared the link...
  8. I will be watching on red bull tv, first up will be the xco woman: https://www.redbull.com/ke-en/live/uci-mountain-bike-world-championships-2022-xco-women-all-languages Using CyberGhost VPN, I have been using it for years: https://www.cyberghostvpn.com/en_US/vpn-free-trial I set it on Kenya and it is with Rob's commentary 😇
  9. The Dart, aka africanmtbkid. If he wasn’t killed almost a decade ago i think he would’ve taken at least half of Nino’s wins away...
  10. Why on earth do they play slow-mo action replays while there are plenty of live action in the last kilometer to the finish line is beyond me…
  11. I live 1500 km from the trail but will also donate 200 bucks if you share the bank details here as well (many of us on here not on facebook). My little way of promoting safe cycling. Perhaps post some pics here as well if possible (some on here may like the pics and be willing to donate and will keep this thread alive). Will hopefully try out the route myself one day if in the area, you never know.
  12. The world, it is changing fast…
  13. I now also want a helpmytrap after reading all the comments, one that's chipped with a lekker Öhlins suspension...only thing still short will be abs and downhill assist, but I'm sure that's in the pipeline. As long as i don't get a chip on my shoulders while ridding it or getting chirped at or chirping others... I do agree though that classic bikes and ebikes should not be mixed up in any race (just social rides with friends or loved ones 😉) and they must be totally separated from each other. You will always get arrogant tjops that will spoil it for others, not just in cycling. Can also implement interesting rules/categories, that's now if organizers are able to enforce them rules, e.g. restricted or unrestricted ebikes or one battery per a certain distance only versus as many as you like, etc. The possibilities are endless. Ebikes are definately the feature, but with every change or anything new on the market and attracting new 'consumers' there will always be a difference of opinion to some extend. I'm all for more people on whatever bikes they can afford or want to ride, more voices to be heard to promote cycling and hopefully getting more safe cycling paths for those who want to commute.
  14. Sounds like Pidcock’s suspension was locked for a couple of laps, that must’ve been unbelievably hard as well 💪
  15. Visitted Greyton for the first time ever last week, loved it and will be back! Greyton does not only have beautiful single track, but a few awesome gravel bike routes as well. I rode the Jail Break gravel bike route and it was awesome. Here's a litle bit of drone footage I put together of the village and the suroundings. And for those who live there or live close enough, you lucky b*#$@**s
  16. Enter under a different name, problem solved 🤫
