  1. Yes, but they and their governing body also needs to prove that they can manage the funds in the best interest of the athletes and not the greedy administrators. Again PPA saw what was coming and did not like it... Would it not be great to read that the administrators fly economy class and fund part of the ticket themselves and that the athletes are treated with the respect warranted?
  2. Was being kind to them...
  3. Why will Newlands Cricket not sell Windhoek over the weekend? Etc... PPA pay Racetec to time the events. Argus is a PPA event. PPA is an autonomous organisation that can make their own business decisions in the interest of their members. Wrongly or rightly, but that is life!
  4. They also state that they paid a majority of the CSA expenses, including R300 000 towards a salary. They also had a very small say in the governing of the CSA even when they represented more than half the membership of all cyclists in SA. We can carry on selectively quoting from the court case, but the problem remains that cycling and most other sports are badly managed in this country and we are going to lose many good youngsters because of the bungling antics of the people that supposedly should be looking after their interests. It was time that they were taken on and good for PPA in doing it. PPA also have their problems as stated before. At some stage this country needs to start looking after the interest of their sports people and not the fat cat administrators. Once that is achieved the sponsorships and money will follow. Cycling is in a good position where major corporates are throwing their weight behind it (ABSA, FNB, P&P, MOMENTUM to name a few). Get the bungling politics right and the rest will follow.
  5. They also clearly state in the affidavit the reasons why that ten year relationship went sour and how a amicable resolution could not be found.
  6. Excuse my ignorance but why did PPA go to court in the first place? And why this in their affidavit: The Applicant shall, in perpetuity, have the right to: have free and unfettered ownership and control of their own assets and income and be solely liable for their obligations; PPA had been aware of the proposed 2012 constitution, but did not support its content, insofar as it purported to exclude PPA as an affiliate member of CSA, while simultaneously permitting CSA to exercise control over PPA and its members.
  7. Exactly! SA waterpolo players had to pay 27k each to go to Commonwealth Games in Scotland, including a 4k fee for team management.
  8. Maybe, but there are schools with strong MTB programs. Also worthwhile to read this article: http://www.moneyweb.co.za/moneyweb-business-of-sport/cycling-is-the-new-golf "Arguably the fastest-growing sport in South Africa, cycling has taken the nation by storm" "Conservative estimates put the value of the cycling-as-sport industry in South Africa at R600m. But Stephen Reardon, CEO of MoreCycle, which houses Cycle Lab, thinks this figure is around R1bn." There is no shortage of interest or money in cycling. It is a question of channeling it in the right direction. Also stop expecting handouts and make it work for our cyclists (CSA's job). And CSA + SASCOC must start working in that direction instead of having cheap shots at already successful and cash flush organisations. If they get their house in order those corporates and other sponsors will follow suite.
  9. Yes, because they are there to look after interest of SA sport and their record does not show that. Yet they spend lots of money on sport awards, their own staff travelling expenses, ..... the list goes on. Again, why do you think the ppa was targeted?
  10. And SASCOC has a stellar reputation?? Enough said
  11. Maybe this is why: From the PPA website In February 2012, CSA wrote PPA out of its constitution despite PPA being granted entrenched rights in perpetuity in CSA’s founding constitution of 2004; PPA having been a primary motivator for unification prior to 2004. Amongst others, the CSA founding constitution granted PPA the rights to register our members and run our affairs as we have done since PPA was formed some 30 years ago, including the right to coordinate our funride calendar without requiring pre-approval or sanctioning from CSA. Since February 2012, PPA has been trying to resolve the issue with CSA through various meetings, emails and other forms of communication, with no forward movement on the matter. In an attempt to finalise the matter, PPA has now filed an application in this regard with the High Court of South Africa. “We are concerned that cyclists, and cycling as a whole, will be penalized through the lack of finalization of the current situation,” said PPA Chairman Steve Hayward. “We again want to reiterate that PPA did not ask to leave the CSA fold, and are resorting to legal means since all other attempts to resolve the matter have been unsuccessful. We simply want to continue as we have done since 1976, promoting cycling and the rights of cyclists in various ways.” http://www.pedalpower.org.za/index.php/news/ppa-and-csa-the-way-forward/
  12. Other thing you forget, CSA wanted access to the PPA pot of gold.
  13. I do not believe that it is the PPA's responsibility to sponsor top athletes. This should come from corporate sponsorships or dedicated government programs (lotto included). I do, however, wonder what the intention of the PPA is with all the money in their hands. They do proclaim to have various avenues of spending it, but very little is actually seen. Heard that a grand total of R17000 was spent on mtbing last year and if one looks at their 'investments' into places like Schapenberg and Thandi, very little improvements are seen. Thandi bike park does not even exist any more. Also many PPA events do not exist any more and no help was forthcoming to help them out. What happened to 'Die Wingerd' race in Somerset West? I fully agree with their fight with the CSA and am happy with the outcome, but they seriously need to relook at how their money is spent towards the development of cycling.
  14. See the admin powers of CSA also questioned...
  15. http://www.pedalpower.org.za/index.php/news/judgment-handed-down-in-ppacsa-court-case/
  16. So PPA have won the court case at cost. Next move CSA?
  17. Platt/Huber must be favourites - 2nd last year and an established team. Platt a multiple winner and look what Huber did at Attakwas
  18. That is not the part we are looking at and it is not part of the Steenbras dam conservancy (Kogelberg Nature Reserve). Idea is to go up the wagon trail and then cross the N2 at the top and go down via Gordons Bay.
  19. No luck so far, except saw some info regarding permits on this website: http://www.capetown.gov.za/.../Pages/NatureReserve.aspx... They do not seem to allow MTB and the permit for hiking is R60. So let's hope more info is forthcoming...
  20. Just saw this on Twitter - cannot translate the link, but seems like an agreement, not signed guyvermeiren ‏@guyvermeiren19m According to @tuttobiciweb_it Peter Sagan signed a 2 year contract with Team Alonso. Yearly salary 3.3 mil euro.http://www.tuttobiciweb.it/index.php?page=news&cod=64866&tp=n…
  21. Am looking for some new cycling routes off the beaten track. Have seen that there is a path from the lookout point at top of Sir Lowrys Pass that will take you to the gate above Gordons Bay. Some questions: Can one ride it and do you need a permit? If so where can you purchase the permit?
  22. No - golf is the poor cousin of mtbing! Actually agree that golf clubs must start looking at becoming multi-event venues again. Cycling tracks, running, etc
  23. Still use Jeukendrup recipe for long rides (maltodextrin, sucrose and salt) and water for shorter rides. For extra long rides also get some food and maybe apple juice. End of ride - milkshake and eat soon as possible Off the point - how many have tried the high fat low carb diet and have successfully got their body to burn fat instead of carbs?
  24. From their website the terms and conditions are quite clear: To earn Vitality points the event must meet the following criteria:  An officially organised and timed event of a specified distance on a specified date that requires registration and the issue of race numbers.  A sport intended to increase heart rate so as to produce cardio respiratory health benefits to the person.  The event must be community-based and not a championship. Events that are excluded:  Provincial or national championships (points for events are aimed at more community-based events)  All motorised sports or events  Extreme sports  Team events or relays  Time-trials and club runs, cycles or swims
  25. When I entered the W2W, they asked for your affiliation, but you do have a point!
