  1. Long day and only had R600K in my credit card. No wonder I could not buy up all the entries...
  2. Nice business...0 - R600k in 9 seconds!
  3. Some interesting comments at the bottom of this article: http://www.destinyman.com/2015/03/02/sa-cyclist-called-a-kffir-during-a-race/
  4. That second last paragraph is telling - nearly 2 out of every 3 riders bought a R40K+ (my estimate) new bike for the race. Absolutely crazy!
  5. Anyone heard of Hugelkultur? Interesting way of using wood, cuttings and compost to create a long term living environment http://www.permaculture.co.uk/articles/many-benefits-hugelkultur http://www.permaculture.co.uk/sites/default/files/images/Hugelkultur_0.standard%20460x345.png
  6. Mmm..forgot about those two. See Sanlam also has Cape Town Marathon
  7. Maybe only after this sale happens... http://www.iol.co.za/business/companies/kirkinis-linked-villa-on-sale-for-r60m-1.1745580#.VAg-e8KSy-m
  8. Turning into a p1ssing contest between the banks: ABSA = EPIC FNB = W2W and now Standard Bank gets the triathlon... Wonder what the others are doing about it?
  9. Firstly well done for Impey getting off, could not have been easy and needed lots of expensive lawyers. But there are still lots of questions and as mentioned skepticism: Saids really bungled this case (http://www.beeld.com/nuus/2014-08-30-elke-rel-is-oortree) - excuse the Afrikaans “Die omstandighede van Daryl se toetsing was haglik en feitlik elke reël denkbaar (vir opkikkertoetse) is oortree. Daar was geen veiligheid tydens die toetsing nie, die lokaal was te klein en hulle het boonop meer as een atleet op ’n slag getoets,” het die bron gesê. “Boonop was die verslag wat Saids saamgestel het vol foute. Dit was nie die papier werd waarop dit geskryf is nie.” Cannot find the link, but seems like he was tested again a day or so after the positive test and this was negative Some good chirps on social media: "Sorry officer, I was drinking cokes in the pub but the barman had beer on his hands. That’s why I’m drunk driving." "@Digger_forum Impey wants to sue the anti doping agency. But why doesn't he and his lawyers go for the pharmacist? #makesnosense #nonsense"
  10. This does not seem to be that device. I have asked people in the insurance industry and they are also stumped.
  11. Have a look at this clip. Anyone know how they do it? Mystery gizmo opens car doors. Wave of auto thefts…:
  12. One thing that comes to mind is the lack of commitment or involvement from Cape Nature in this whole issue. They are receiving much more entry fees due to the development of mtbing, yet are very difficult to negotiate with. And this seems to be the case at Jonkers ,Table Mountain, Tokai, Grabouw and even the Steenbras area in the Cape. Seems like a missed opportunity that hampers lots of good work done by individuals in the area. And lastly, the cafe. I know of no cafe linked to Cape Nature that has grasped the opportunity of many more people coming past them. Service is a problem at each of them. My 2c is that they should get rid of all the branding and rather create an atmosphere where users of these parks can enjoy a nice meal, coffee or a drink after their activities. As it is, they cannot ask for better settings...
  13. Will never understand the indemnifying part. If you there illegally you have no rights..... As far as I am concerned most mtbers have gone rogue at some stage, but the numbers are now too big to warrant it. The problem is that a few riders will never understand any form of diplomacy and are already causing the many problems for the others that enjoy the trails. There are already a few trails where farmers have removed access due to some idiots disrespecting the land they ride over. Unfortunately time has come to address this to the benefit of the majority.
  14. This is a great initiative and this ties in with the idea of reciprocity as well. I do, however, see the bigger clubs going against this and also people pointing fingers at the PPA "and their large bank account"... But this is the way to go and the quicker people start talking the better!

  16. Do yourself a favour and read the rules before commenting...
  17. We all saw the guy riding with one leg. How about Sergio Paz Robaina? Here he carries his artificial arm over the finish line after it came off during the muddy stage. The Spaniard had to carry it and ride one-handed through the mire for the rest of the day. Some nice pictures including this one found here: http://www.theguardi...3026790&index=6 http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pictures/2014/3/26/1395833000611/cape-epic-mud-007.jpg
  18. Here is a great article written in 2012 from a totally unrelated matter: http://www.bikemag.c...-dopey-smokers/ Some beauts: They don’t get caught because mountain bike race promoters barely have $200 bucks for Port-a-Johns let alone $10,000 for drug testing guys and gals who are racing to win a free jersey and $50 gift certificate from Performance Bicycles. I have mentioned in earlier blogs and Bike magazine stories that mountain biking has its roots (literally) in the cultivation of marijuana in Northern California. Growers needed a fast way to escape from U.S. Forest Service patrols raiding their garden plots in and around Marin County. That’s similar to NASCAR’s Southern roots as high-speed back roads moonshine runners. Smoking dope only helps after a race, or so I’ve heard. Recovery is important but I don’t think eating two sleeves of Oreos and a jug of YooHoo can be considered recovery. And I certainly would never advocate driving home buzzed after a hard race. That’s what that tent is for. So here’s my thought for today: Don’t use performance-enhancing drugs. Spend your money on a lighter bike or better yet, a lighter you. Ride with faster people and learn to keep up with them. You may not win races, but you’ll be able to sleep at night while the Crybaby is still wailing.
  19. Called a wildcard entry for registered UCI pro riders.
  20. So why did Neil tweet on Friday that he is sad to miss the Epic? Some nice backroom politics in motion....
  21. Hi Wessel, great and proper MTB event! Just one comment with regards to the results. Not impressed to see my email, phone number and ID on the spreadsheet and now accessible to all.
  22. See they still have an event with different sponsor. Shorter route, same price as MTN Tulbagh... http://www.graveltra...avel_Travel.php
  23. Problem here is the PPA tried to solve amicably and then had to defend their turf. I am in no way trying to make out that they are angels, but the record of SA sport administrators speak for itself. Hopefully actions like this will make people stand up to the fat cats, but that will not happen. Look at the record of sport administration in general - one cannot say FIFA, Olympics, UCI, etc are angels either. This is a worldwide problem
  24. Maybe, but losing money to a few lawyers to right some wrongs is better than money landing in a few fat cats pockets. But then again I like to dream...
