  1. Thanks for the review - Where in Johannesburg can I buy these or any other Fox Mountain Bike Kit? I've seen Fox apparel at Sportsmans Warehouse but find them overpriced.
  2. That's such a bummer dude. Also post on "Mountainbikers Do it Downhill" on Facebook. Hopefully someone can help you out.
  3. Driver 8 - Sweet ass bike - Gonna have fun no doubt!! As for just having a jol, I'm with you. No ways I'm in shape to stick with the proper riders, just want to hit it as hard as I'm able and hopefully hold on till the bottom!
  4. I've heard the Chicken Braai is awesome - Nothing like a good feed and talking crap around a fire after a hard days riding!!! Best bring warm clothes for the nights though as heard it gets Brass monkeys cold...
  5. Boooooooom!!!! Nice one Mankele MTB - Cant wait!!! It's going to be an epic weekend.
  6. +-7km as far as I know. Reckon I'll be hanging around the back too. My lard ass is a bit unfit. Still gonna push as hard as possible though!!
  7. Bought the frame from a hubber with a plan to build it up over a few months as and when I had spare cash - Never had a full sus before and seemed like a nice project - Ended up selling my Cube Acid 29r to help fund getting this completed as I couldn't wait any longer to complete and ride it. Took over my life searching for all the bits and pieces to complete it to the spec I wanted - Much to the Fiance's dismay. Still a few odds and ends to finish it off nicely like black cable ties and keen for a dropper post... Otherwise I'm super stoked at how it came out! Two main things I learned - I'll never buy a 29r again and I'll probably never buy a hard tail again. Also affirmed my love for gravity riding over doing long outrides etc... http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n189/Baltazar_Marques/0_zpsb3523177.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n189/Baltazar_Marques/photo6_zpsce48e768.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n189/Baltazar_Marques/photo2_zpsa8bcc2a2.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n189/Baltazar_Marques/photo3_zps5abc7109.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n189/Baltazar_Marques/photo4_zps1e095ea7.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n189/Baltazar_Marques/photo5_zps71ef8170.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n189/Baltazar_Marques/photo1_zpse2d40a53.jpghttp://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n189/Baltazar_Marques/photo7_zpsd1009945.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n189/Baltazar_Marques/photo8_zps2a4817fd.jpg
  8. Nice one - Yeah, 4 of us going and three have done it before so got me onto it. My fitness is not totally up to speed but running every day till the event to try make up... Just gonna have fun with it and start at the back to keep out of the pro's way!
  9. But it's all/mostly downhill
  10. So amped for Mankele Avalanche. My first race and only heard and read great things!! Checked to see if there was any thread on this years event already and nothing - So get your hype down here!!! Who else on here is going and/or Who has been before?
  11. Schwalbe And Syntace Team Up To Shake Up The Way We Ride: Running 14psi Tire Pressure May Be Our Future Posted Date: 2/8/2014 This just in...Schwalbe and Syntace are working together to release a dual-chamber tire and wheel system that they feel will push the tire game to a whole new level. HOW IT WORKS The dual chamber system has an additional air chamber inside the tire. This inner chamber is filled with high air pressure and effectively prevents the tire hitting the edge of the rim. At the same time, the inner system also secures the tire on the rim and prevents the dreaded "burping” (a loss of air) of the tubeless system in the case of low pressure. Depending on the situation, the air pressure in the outer chamber can be reduced to 14 psi without running any risk. Schwalbe will be responsible for the production of the dual chamber system and it is expected to be compatible with conventional tires and rims and weigh less than 7 ounces. http://www.mbaction.com/Uploads/Public/Images/SchwalbeDualChamber%20copy.jpeg Schwalbe points out the potential of the system this way: At 14 psi, the tire grip is incredible. The contact surface is very large and the tires seldom, if ever, slide on loose ground. Even on the roughest terrain, the tires literally stick to the ground. The tire is the most sensitive cushioning element on the bike. The extra cushioning and traction because of the low air pressure leads to much better control over the bike and allows distinctly higher speeds. All this without the risk of snake-bites. Dented rims become a thing of the past. Significantly lighter tires can be used in even the toughest conditions. And in addition, the additional air chamber has excellent emergency running characteristics. With the combined efforts of both Schwalbe and Syntace, the dual chamber system will reach market maturity by Eurobike 2014 with precise information regarding design, pricing and Patents pending. But you heard about it first right here. Interesting......
  12. DataDot (Impregnate DNA) like they do for cars could also be a good idea. Won't track a bike, but could be good if police raid or confiscate bikes, they could be traced back to the owner (Theft/Hijacking case).
  13. Doh, that is actually what I meant and am going to do but my brain had a misfire at point of post :-/
  14. Been running half bald 2,1 crossmarks on my Yeti 575 (came with the wheels I bought for the build) and all I can say is thank **** for payday... Been really sketchy on the rides and given me zero confidence so just ordered myself some new rubber from EasyBike (great prices)... After reading loads of reviews and comments (this thread included) and being on the fence - I decide to pull the trigger and go with the below. I reckon (hope) they'll suit my ride and seem to be a decent config for all round trail and beginner/light DH use that should grip, roll and inspire confidence. Schwalbe Nobby Nic Evo Snakeskin PaceStar 2.25'' - For the Back Schwalbe Nobby Nic Evo Snakeskin TrailStar 2.4'' - For the Front Gonna run them tubeless on Mavic 819 discs.
