  1. Any gravel bikers from 'upcountry' doing this. The organisers say it is perfect for G-bikes. If I manage to do OK on the Berg100 this may be a logical final ride before I go into winter hibernation.
  2. Any Gravel Bike category? I rode an event there last year and it was good territory for gravel tyres
  3. Had my boxing day early ride ruined by some insufferable sod who did a breakfast braai, not far from my house on the way out. That smell of marinaded lamb 'tjops' and other non-vegesetarian goodies dedtroyed my on-bike snacks.
  4. You say the ad has been amended to reflect the new date? No change yet on your entry page. What is the correct date?
  5. The event page says that gravel bikes are catered for
  6. Uh! I think they mean the Drakensberg mountains, unless Limpopo and Hoedspruit have moved house?
  7. Do the Berg100. They are looking at a gravel bike category.
  8. TANDEM entries. I have not ridden Le Tour since 1994 so I am not clued up on entry processes. Are tandem entries submitted in a single page or must the two riders enter separately?
  9. Like almost everyone in cycle race organisation and administration worldwide Vermaak pays lip service to stamping out doping when it really matters. The owner of the Epic is Ironman. What does this say about their attitude towards doping?
  10. Now that the Nationals have dropped the Ultra as a category- you still doing it?
  11. Looks like they have used the Specialized licenced Horst Link rear suspension. When done properly this a superb design. Any info available on this?
  12. Any update to my earlier question on the caravan park and ablutions? Some years back the tiny ablutions were a huge negative to the camp ground. There were also lots of thefts by crooks accessing the ground through the non-existent fence
  13. Now this is racing!! Those long stages of the Epic and TdF are so (yawn) long.... Give us shorter intense marathon racing that is televis'able and worth going to see. Good one, Dryland!
  14. How would this rear suspension stack up to the older Gary Fischer Superfly (before Trek introduced the rear axle pivot mechanism). I am wondering if this bike still exhibits too much 'bob' when ridden with force, which then has to be controlled by a stiffer shock setting resulting in a too firm ride. I currently prefer the Horst link used by Specialised and the Maestro by Giant because it does control the bobbing well without compromising suspension travel
  15. The Fossils tandem loved the shorter (25km) route. Nicely balanced without being too tight in the turns although I had to make the front wheel turn out of some corners so that the back wheel could track true. Unfortunately we could not get any air on the 'yumps' - too many riders to get the necessary speed up. Thanks Cows for a pleasant event.
  16. Its a big 26" full susser in plain white. Make is an MSC. Look for the green turtle on the stokers bars
  17. The Fat Fossils on the tandem will be there for the 30km. What is the caravan park like now. Are the ablutions OK?
  18. Seeing Greg Kemp in the picture brings back memories - getting my rear handed to me by him on every schools race back in 71 -73. We both matriculated in '73 from Northview High
  19. Another event that ignores solo riders?
  20. Fat Fossil and the Turbo Turtle will do the 25 on the tandem. Any other tandem'ers coming along?
  21. Do you think a long wheel base tandem can do the 23km course?
  22. Toyota SA sponsors them. Maybe we should address these comments to them? Alternatively, use your pepper spray to deal with the jerks. After all, a push as described is in fact an assault. You are allowed to defend yourself
  23. The team owner, Japie, is a top level rally driver in a fully imported Ford costing about five bar. I wonder of the boys will get a chance to rally for him? 200kp/h on forest roads we ride on - now that is racing!
  24. I am going to the Karkloof for a week after new year.I recall seeing a note that said all the Karkloof trails were closed due to timber felling. There is no note on the Karkloof web site about this. Can anybody tell me more or direct me to a site which gives detail.
  25. It seems sponsors in DH have a more open mind and their characters are a major component of the culture of DH and the success. Our Pro XCO and XCM sponsors seem to like their riders to be pure vanilla robots - no character, no attitude, no individualism. Do they have a life?. We need a Robbie Hunter in the mtb marathon world. The closest we have is Erik Kleynhans and he is just too nice a guy. Remember Mannie Heymans? David George was outspoken and properly controversial, although there were some wrong reasons too . Kevin Evans, the Forest Hippie was not entirely bland.
