  3. Hi Guys, Shew, yesterday our club rode through Tarlton in the West Rand. We normally use Ontdekkers & go out to the Cradle either Kugersdorp Hill or Sterkfontein but due to needing extra mileage, we decided to go pass Tarlton and to the Maropeng Turn (Berge en Dale route) The road was covered in rocks, burnt tyres, cars etc and by the time we decided to turn around, we were in the middle of a whole bunch of angry children/ teenagers with huge stones & rocks ready to throw at us. Lucky, we had 2 members who spoke to them and tried to calm them down as we tried to get through the debris and make it to the Maropeng turn. As our last rider got through, a stone was thrown but if it started earlier, who knows what would've happened? From my club member: "Today we rode on the R24 between Krugersdorp and Magalies. About 10 km from the Krugersdorp Game reserve, the route goes through a squatter camp and there was a protest with road closure. Kids who are around 10 years old had picked up stones and were ready to throw them at us as we were passing through the area. I do not know why the people decided to close the road. I do not know why they were protesting. I really don’t know what the issues were. I thought to myself, in 10 years time if these people’s issues are not resolved they will also teach those who come after them that this is the way of resolving problems. So the cycle continues. I can make assumptions of what the issues are and I am sure my assumptions would be pretty much close to what the issues are. To avoid long debates with my friends who are politicians I will assume a reckless driver was speeding through the area and he hit someone’s chicken in a hit and run. What a sad day!!" This is why Wilro Cycle Race was cancelled if I'm not mistaken. No police warning signs or anything to warn us of what was ahead!
  4. Anyone having issues trying to enter Amashova this morning? Tried but keeps on telling me the 160km is closed, I don't qualify. I can't access the 106km route option (Which I want to enter for)
  5. Received a message that victims of Bike jacking must contact Laura Byrne from Carte Blanche. Her number is 063 5zero5 455zero Here's the platform to make our voices heard!
  6. Howzit Hubbers, I'm spending the long weekend with family in PMB. I would love to join some roadies for 3-4 hours rides if possible. Not keen to ride alone. Basically Friday, Saturday & Sunday..... Decent rider...
  7. HI, Yes, I've been involved in the Non-Profit/ Charity sector for the last 10 years. If you would like to chat privately, no problem at all. What s your intention? How long would you be willing to keep this sustainable on your own? IF you want to expand & make it more official, then go this route: I would suggest you start a NPO/ NPC if your have the funds available. (Plenty admin work getting everything compliant) Next step is to apply with SARS for a PBO (Public Benefit Organisation) which makes the organisation Tax Exempt. (Section 18A) Then you can open bank accounts, and can ask for Donations and give Section 18A certificates for all donations. Has to be run like a corporate and submit to SARS etc yearly. With this structure, you can source funding from the business/ corporate sector, government ( ) and the general public. Or if you can just gather a few mates, get them to sign debit orders every month even if its starts small, and go from there! Well done on this initiative, please shout if you need help & all the best!
  8. Howdy sunchaser, May I please share some advice, Our club meets at the Mcdonalds (Ontdekkers/ Gordon rd) around 7am now in Winter for our raining rides. You are more than welcome to join us. Please try & avoid HP (Hendrik Potgieter) as much as possible. Esmero & NH Cycling clubs use Ontdekkers instead & head to the Cradle this way as we have had endless incidents, issues & fatal accidents on HP. From ClearWater Mall to Silverstar, that shoulder lane is a law onto their own esp Taxi's & impatient drivers. Enjoy & be safe!

  10. https://power2max-south-africa.myshopify.com/pages/home Not too badly priced as well!
  11. Nothing like Power Training ouzo! (In my humble opinion) I trained on Heart rate before my power meter. (Gains were not too bad) Chalk & Cheese with structured power training... Power Training is absolute must for Cyclists wanting to improve fitness & performance!
  12. You should've done the racing category vote.. Elite VA VB VC VD VE
  13. I have no idea why the Power 2 Max units were not mentioned here. (If i missed it, sorry hubbers) Got mine in Late December 2015 & haven't looked back. I have not had any issues with these & replaced maybe 2/3 batteries at most. Awesome piece of equipment, accurate, strong, reliable & not badly priced at all. https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/01/power2max-power-meter-in-depth-review.html Here’s a quick table of the pros and cons of the Power2Max Power Meter. Pros: – ‘It just works’ factor – Accurate power measurement – Temperature Compensation in second generation units – Relatively straight forward installation – Cadence without a cadence magnet – Contains have left/right estimated power – Do not have to send back in if changing chainrings Cons: – No method to turn off Auto Zero – Tiny delay in cadence readings As long as it works for you, go for it!
