  1. It was an awesome day out for me. Did a 3.12ish which is my best time in the last few years. All went well - no major issues. It's very well organised and also saw no big crashes. The roads did SEEM a bit worse this year than last but hard to say for sure. There were a few road hazards that weren't marked which is not ideal - if they mark some, they should ideally mark all (the big ones anyway) as you start to look out for the green or pink spray paint. I must say though, I think if someone new to cycling wants to do this race, either get yourself seeded so you start before 8.30am or really think carefully about doing this ride. It's usually hot and often windy and those guys starting at 10am and riding in for a 4/5/6/7 hour ride cannot enjoy the experience that much surely! My father in law started at 10am and ended up being picked up by the bus but it sounds like there was a fairly serious veld fire near the end which might have prompted them to close the route a bit earlier than usual? Anyone see the fire?
  2. That would be nice! Sadly not. I did find R2 the other day when climbing out my car but it could have fallen out of my own pocket. Still - I'm claiming it.
  3. Hey all I am thinking of making a big change in my life. Looking at moving from the big smoke. I don't want to move to Cape Town itself. But looking to find a place that fits these requirements: Within 1 to max 2 hours drive of Cape TownAwesome cycling in the area. I am thinking specifically off road but also on road would be greatOn the tourist trail would be greatTown that has the basics including decent schools for kidsHappening place with happening people! Suggestions most appreciated! Cheers
  4. Got one from Cajees in the end. Not 100% sure of the price as my missus got is as a present for me but I think it was around R2k. Fitted it with internal routing (also without having to remove cranks etc - just fed the outer casing through and opened the plug near the bottom bracket to help it go up the seattube. Works like a bomb - no hassles so far. Rode Berg and Bush Descent with it and enjoyed being able to drop my saddle at will. Helped to get me nice and low on the long downhills and gave my neck and butt a break from the "normal" posture. All good!
  5. I emailed several retailers on Giant's website and Raymond from City Cyles was the only one to respond. They have them for R2800 in the 375 and 400mm lengths. Apparently the shorter one is suitable for S & M frames and the longer is better for L and XL frames.
  6. Anyone able to recommend where to get one of these babies (the giant dropper post) for a decent price? I'm based in JHB but happy to use a courier if necessary. Cajees has been mentioned - anywhere else?
  7. My opinion is keep your eyes on the classifieds and if you see a bike that suits you, go check it out. I bought a basically brand new Trance for 30% off the new price. So 2nd hand does make a lot of sense from a value for money point of view. But beware of the tendency to buy on value rather than getting the RIGHT bike. ie have a clear idea what you want and don't deviate just because it's good value. If you need a medium frame, and see the PERFECT bike other than it being a large, don't be tempted to buy it just because it's cheap.
  8. Just to be clear. Say you were selling a bike for R10K. Buyer 1 negotiates it to R8500 and promises to pay R1000 deposit to secure. Before the R1000 has been paid, buyer 2 comes along and says he'll take it for R9500. What now? To my mind, the crux is that the R1000 has not been paid over yet and so the deal has not yet been sealed. As soon as the R1000 is paid over, that's it. The deal is done. My opinion but keen to see if others agree.
  9. Here's an ethical dilemma. You're selling a bike and a buyer who hasn't seen your bike says he will definitely take it (at a discounted price) and promises to pay you R1000 deposit with the balance once he picks it up. You say that the deposit secures the bike and buyer commits that he WILL take it. Before buyer 1's deposit is in your account, buyer 2 comes along and offers you a better price. Can you sell the bike to buyer 2? WHAT I WOULD DO: Call buyer 1 and tell him that buyer 2 has offered more. Buyer 1 must match the price or buyer 2 gets the bike. In this scenario, my belief is only once the deposit has come through, it's a done deal and I wouldn't back out at that point even if a better deal comes along. It's all about communication. As a seller, either don't agree to hold the item for someone on the basis of "dibs" or if you do agree then you must hold the item. You were dumb enough to agree to dibs so stick to your word. But as far as I am concerned I won't accept dibs. If you haven't paid and someone else comes along, your rights are zero. The decent thing is that if someone has given you a firm commitment to take an item, it's only right to inform the first guy that you have a 3rd party interested and it's first come, first served. But that's it. Don't come crying to me that you were waiting for your aunty to pay you blah blah. I've had too many guys promise me this and that and then...nada.
  10. Cheers - sounds like what I need!
  11. Hi all I have recently bought a new bike. Before she gets all chipped by stones and has her paint rubbed off by cables, I thought i would put some protective stickers on the underside of the downtube and bottom bracket and around areas prone to wear and tear. Where do I get such things? Want something that sticks properly so I don't end up with stickers half peeling off etc. Cheers
  12. Hey all Planning to sell this bike but not 100% sure what year or is. Probably a 2008 to 2010. Can anyone help? Front shocks were upgraded. Giant Trance 2
  13. The ONLY thing I don't like about these bikes! Too much of KOMIN.
  14. Just bought a 2015 trance 2. It's been sitting in my lounge for the past 4 nights! This weekend... that bike's gonna get it! :-)
  15. Hit it hard with a hammer. If it's not cracked, it will be when you're done.
  16. Can anyone tell me what time coverage of a regular kind of stage on Friday July 10 is likely to start? Planning a spinathon and thought it would be cool to coincide with the stage coverage being broadcast. Cannot find anything on the internet about this. Cheers
  17. But how do you measure distance? There is no speedometer!
  18. Do you mean where is the spinathon taking place? Auckland Park in Johannesburg.
  19. Yes, I know...I am very tempted!
  20. Mikes Bikes has a large Trance 2 in stock for R26550.
