I really enjoyed the race and the chat's with the fellow riders along the route. Ou Wa Pad was a breeze from B batch! Walkers, and there were not many, all kept left and everyone made it up carefully so there were no blockages. The water tables were all well stocked that I took a pit stop at. The cool breeze near the end was appreciated, played some tunes up Simola to keep the legs turning and crossed the line with a smile on my face. Honestly the only gripe I had was the beer line, it felt like I stood in the same spot forever only to realize I needed a tickets for the beer. Decided to rather go to the car for some ice cold Hansa tinnies! Will definitely be back next year with a bit more training done and aim for a 4:30.

I have one of these, it is not only great for cleaning the car's wheels but I find it gets in behind the crank and in the cassette and derailleur quite nicely on the bike.

After each ride I try give the bike a quick wash. If I am feeling tired and the bike is only dusty then it can survive until the end of the next ride.
If it is muddy then it always gets a proper wash when I get home, replacing drive train is too pricey.
Pretty much everything that could be said has been said already. Enjoy the ride. The views, as long as the weather plays nice, are amazing.
Also don't feel bad when you are taking a break at every turn on the switch backs at the top. It gets real up there, just keep reminding yourself, a tasty Maluti beer is close!

Good read this thread. It reminded me of my brothers race. He had a lovely wheelsucker right up his poephole the whole last drag and round the final turn wanted to make a pass. Mike did not entertain it

Did you do much riding over December? I find after returning from a break the rear is not as tough as it used to be. 
Bit of an old thread revival here. I looking for a bit of guidance of what would be a reasonable asking price for my bike.
I have a 2014 Giant Anthem. From Strava I have done roughly 7200 kilometers and had it religiously serviced at Linden Cycles.
It just had BB done and bearings in the linkage components. Headset and shocks were done in the service prior to that and the cassette and the large front chainring were replaced in the service prior to that if my memory is correct. I have tried to keep it well looked after and washed after almost every ride. Having said that the bike is a few years old and I have had some tumbles with it so the bike has the usual marking to show it.
The bike has been very good to me and if the option for an upgrade was not around I would still be happily riding it. It still goes like stink and is a smooth ride with no gremlins.
Any advice would be appreciated!

My brother and I finished off the challenge on Saturday at Suikerbosrand. The wind turned it into quite a ride.
I see some people are finishing this challenge just over the 2500m mark, are some devices that accurate for tracking your ride? I used to have a 310xt that measured altitude gain but I don't remember it ever being that accurate, it always readjusted up or down after the ride.
Well, with a bit of bad guessing from my side, after uploading our route it turned out we had done an extra 250m.
I would also like to only see people who still qualify. What benefit is there to showing people who are out of the running? Surely late uploads would just mark the rider as legible to the competition so they would just auto-magically appear in the list.
My brother and I are doing it on SS's again this year. We had an awesome time last year.
Take it easy, stop at the water points, have shots of "water" if they are on offer and enjoy talking *** the whole way through the ride.

Pierre, a good way to pick up tickets as they come up for sale is to follow this thread. There is a "Follow this topic" button at the top of the page.

You will get spammed with some email chatter, but this way you get instant notification that a ticket comes up for sale. I got my entry this way in my first year.
I collected the bottle and pack this morning. Parked right next to the dome on North gate side for free. People paying R20 were walking further so just drive past the money grabbing stations.
Inside the dome I was in the 'green' queue so I had one person in front. When it was my turn the online scanning system for everyone was dog slow and it wasn't like it was busy, so I hope for everyone's sake that wasn't due to load.
Anyways, looking forward to the ride on Sunday. Took the Anthem last year around in 4 hours so taking the SS rigid this time for some fun.
Improve your seeding it won't be an issue..
After reading comments from other's seeded much higher than I was they had the same issue at the bridge.
I am trying to improve my seeding and yesterday was well on my way to achieving this until I was stopped at the bridge for 43 minutes. When it came to my turn I just cycled across with no issues so I don't know what was causing the massive delay.
"Improving" our seeding is easier said than done when we come to partake in a race which ends up having a huge mess.
Anyways enough bitching, the race and course was epic. Trail had me smiling and I really enjoyed it. Will definitely be in for it again, hopefully it will be problem free!

Confirmation email said it will be confirmed. Have tried the queries number and sent an email and had no response.

I think it is fair to say that this year was an incredibly hard ride! That wind and rain was perishing and stopping at a water point only made it worse to get going again.
Started the race on a beautiful clean bike and finished on what resembled a muddy diesel tractor. Horrible hearing the gears just grinding away. Gave them a rinse at two water points but that only helped for a few hundred meters.
If the guy on Wapad with the stripped pedal reads this, I am still waiting on your call so I can get my uni tool back. Sounds strange but it has sentimental value as it was a gift from my brother before he emigrated.
