  1. I had a similar experience (ordered an Edge 500 using Royal Mail). I phoned them after 3 weeks and they said wait another week. Another week and it still hadn't arrived. They then sent me another one (this time via UPS - I paid the extra delivery). Before that one arrived the first one landed... The second one arrived 3 days later and I sent it back.. Next time I wont be using Royal Mail...
  2. I've been holding out to see what happens with the new Vector / Metrigear product that was demo'd at Interbike last year but see there have been further delays.. http://www.metrigear.com/news/ I'm now thinking I should just go with a Powertap. I'm looking at either the Elite+ or the Pro+. I plan to use this with a Garmin 500. I see that the Elite doesnt have onboard analysis - what does this mean and is this only for the head unit? Are there any other advantages (besides the weight saving) to go with the Pro unit? thanks.
  3. Such a big deal is made out of seeding... Just go out and ride! Reseeding monthly looks like a waste of time (and money). Twice a year should be more than enough.
  4. Based on the above the Polar looks expensive. I had the Forerunner 305 (until the Argus when it came off my handlebar and is sitting somewhere around Misty Cliffs!) and having the GPS functionality is great to look back at where you were riding etc. Can't say I ever used the maps, virtual partner, route points but being able to load it all up into SportsTracks is great. The Edge 500 looks much better value and even though I don't have a power meter (yet) it gives you options... In a couple of months Metrigear will release their power meter in SpeedPlay pedals. They're targetting under $1000 which is very affordable - the pedals alone would cost you a few grand. Has anyone had any bad experience with the Edge 500?
  5. Save your money and in 2 years buy another bike..
  6. On a off topic what would you call someone who also overcame big odds in the form of arrving DOA twice at hospital in his teenage years from drugs, in and out of rehab to finally come right and get on a bicycle , win races and overcome the odds that no one ever thought he would?? Would that also not make him GREAT? Or someone who is 175kg and gets on his bike to lose 75kg isnt that GREAT? Just asking. No thats not GREAT. Admirable yes. "a person who has achieved distinction and honor in some field" - 7 tour wins would have to put him in that category no matter what you think of him.. http://www.google.co.za/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=eCQ&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&defl=en&q=define:great&ei=OUKaS83SN5TB-QaNkuXvAQ&sa=X&oi=glossary_definition&ct=title&ved=0CAYQkAE
  7. Alright fair enough. I promise to shout at anyone I see: - Riding without lights - Riding two up outside a yellow line - Not obeying red lights If everyone does this we'll make progress.
  8. I'm amazed at how many people ride without proper lights early morning or at dusk. When I say proper I mean something that is visible from 100m away (not like those stupid frog lights or the fizik light many guys are using). The cost of a decent rear light is miniscule. Bright clothing would also do wonders - but the majority of cyclists think its uncool to be wearing luminous clothing.
  9. Has anyone got a decent map of where you can/cannot ride when linking up a ride between tokai and table mountain? I've look on both Amarider as well as the table mtn national parks site and its pretty sketchy. I know there are some signs at the major entrances to Cecilia but I still occasionally see people riding their when walking my dog. Is this acceptable? Also can you get from the back of Cecilia up to Rhodes Mem legally? thanks.
  10. If anyone has any route maps (Garmin) for Eselfontein please let me know. thanks.
  11. Hi, I need to replace jockey wheels on my road bike (shimano ultegra 10 speed). I've tried 3 bike shops and no one has them (even the distributor is apparently out of stock). There are a variety of cheaper alternatives (BBB etc.) but the top and bottom jockey's all appear to be exactly the same - whereas Shimano specifically have different "guide" and "tension" wheels. Should I hold out and continue looking for the original product or are these other wheels just as good?
  12. Has anyone ever seen a 3 day a week programme (for any distance)? The majority of programmes available on the web/books are geared at 4-6 days a week with anything between 10-15 hours. If no one knows of any reputable programme it would be interesting to hear what some of your thoughts are regarding training for (say Argus) on 3 days a week.. With so few days training do you: - have any easy days on the bike (given that you're "resting" off the bike) - do any interval / specific training? My current approach is to hammer it every day I'm on the bike. I can't really "justify" an easy day since I'm not on the bike enough.. I'm doing 55k's Tue/Thurs and then an 80-90k ride over the weekend. Any thoughts welcome.
